7 years ago, Rocket Espresso released the Appartamento espresso machine and it took the world of home espresso brewing by storm. For the longest time, the side polka dots was iconic and could be recognized by any coffee enthusiast.
Today, the Appartamento got itself a facelift, a number of new features and also a new name; the Appartamento TCA.
In this video, Imran puts the Appartamento side by side with the Appartamento TCA, comparing its design, build, and features such as the new E61 group head and the Temperature Control Adjustment.

I have to agree with the comments Seems a bit confusing and no shot timer is disappointing It does look stunning though for a coffee machine , beautiful design

Yeah I think that flashing sequence is shit. Aesthetically is looks awesome. I prefer the profitec 500💪🏻

The features all improve upon the prior design, but the UI is just the worst I’ve ever heard of. They should have workshopped that idea.

Profitec GO has a simple button hidden under the grill. Not sure why even hide this. Come on. They changed the whole back of the machine and cant add an UI that makes setting it up simpler? We live in a single dose era. I have several types of coffee in my freeze and currently, on my table there are 5 different roasts to entertain.

If you enjoy brewing coffee beans with different roasting levels, the TCA feature allows for more room to experiment (since you can adjust up to 4 different temperatures) and get you the most our of your coffee!

Sadly the light flashing is an issue, they couldn’t use a panel that tells you what’s going on? A touch screen? More buttons? I was all on board until you described the flashing lights, nope, total deal breaker.

You should enter the board again bc I have this machine and it is (besides the absolute beauty of this machine) amazing. The PID control is a bit laborious but far away from being a dealbreaker, at least for me! I‘m super happy with it.

IMHO a screen would make this beautiful machine extremely ugly. An option would be an indicator like the pressure indicator, something analog. But a screen wouldn’t fit the design at all.

Who in Rocket thought that this is an improvement in UX? it feels like there was a competition on how to make a simple E61 machine as hard to use as possible.

Same thoughts. Why in 2023 these manufacturers think that you will play in the morning with some secret moves just to get your temperature higher. Also HX is not the way forward. Shame because it's one of the best looking machines.

I don't understand why Rocket changed the design of their steam and hot water knobs from a cool and unique retro look to knobs that have the appearance of coming from a cheap generic appliance. That's really sad.

If you need to reference a user manual every time to change the temperature then you've done something horribly wrong. The argument that a screen would have ruined the aesthetic is nonsense, especially considering machines from other brands solve this "problem" by hiding a switch behind the trip tray. I'd say this was lazy design, but frankly I have no idea what the engineers were thinking making such a simple task so complicated.

I agree there are better UX designs for temperature adjustment. However, I always get confused when folks are up in arms about a badly-designed feature that didn’t exist before and now does. Before the release of this machine, there was apparently a reason to buy Appartamento - with this version you can choose to ignore that temperature adjustment even exists and Appartamento is exactly as compelling as it was before. And if you value other features, there are other options on the market.
