The New Sea of Thieves Gamemode Explained [Safer Seas] 

I’m gonna be using Safer Seas to sail on with my wife and Daughters. we have a family game room setup with 4 Xbox X’s so we can all play at the same time and crew up to have fun shared adventures while gaming together. I’m super stoked for safer sea because it will let them learn the game while getting better and not get discouraged or frustrated with because toxic pirates are spawn camping and being obnoxious ruining our game time and take the fun out of it for them while they figure things out. Then once they get good enough and confident enough, we can go to the high seas for some amazing high sea adventures. I feel like safer seas will encourage them to play more and as a result, they’ll want to play the game even more and enjoy playing it more because they weren’t discouraged and bullied away by toxic pirates on the regular while they’re just figuring out and learning how to be pirates.

I want to use safer seas to remind myself how good things used to be way back at the start. Not going to miss the awful toxic encounters that stopped me playing.

I introduced my son to this game and he’s obsessed but still struggles to handle our boat when it’s sinking giving rival crews an advantage. I’m excited to play on the safer seas with him until he’s captain capable. I think it’s a good thing to have this option for more laid back crews who just want the fun pirate game to be fun

As a PvP player this is a great idea. Don’t get why other people are so mad, this just means in high seas everyone is willing to fight. This is a win for everyone imo

I am looking forward to use Safer Seas to finally do the Tall Tails without having to look out for other players.

I can not wait to head for Safer Seas and never look back. I will only miss my Captaincy ship.

My Mom (70 years old) is a gamer but doesn't want anything to do with grievers, so Safer seas will be great to take her around and show her the sea.

I'll use the safer seas when I just want to relax and sail across the sea of thieves after a long day of work or to chill with my friends and talk whilst still enjoying the overall feeling of sea of thieves

I will use safer seas for when I do tall tales, I also will use them for practice with canon skills with my crew

I’m going to be using safer seas to make take screenshots for the contests that Rare hosts and probably getting my voyage miles completed finally😅.

They need to make it so you can reach lvl 50 in all factions and Pirate legend in safer seas but anything above 50 you would have to go to higher seas. The fact Rare excluded Athena's from Safer seas is a slap in the face its already hard enough dealing with the Roar but to have to deal with players on top of the Roar is asinine

My friends and I are gonna try to get the gold curse when it's out! I'm excited to finally be able to work on commendations without having to worry about PVP cause it always stresses me out. Although, some of the reaper's bones commendations I'm trying to get probably won't be possibly on safer seas, but oh well

Have a place to do the tall tales is awesome. Ive been sunk a few times trying to do the one on old faithful by cheeky pirate's because im too involved in the fantastic story of it and simply forget about my boat 😂

I would have loved this years ago when I was grinding Tall Tales for the curse and completing the Legends of the Sea (most of the latter anyway) but I'll be using it primarily for fishing and completing the Sunken Kingdom commendations. I really don't feel secure leaving my ship unattended on the surface.

I like the idea of Safer Seas because I know what it feels like when you're new to the game and you get jacked on the way to the nearest outpost. 😢 heartbreaking. I definitely have some friends that will love this as well and since I don't care about gold all that much anymore, I'm happy to join them.

I highly suspect they are going to remove more restrictions in safer seas over time. This is a perfect example of "speaking with your wallets." For years people were saying a PvE only mode would NEVER happen so we should stop asking. Well, those who wanted that just stopped playing and profits dwindled. Fantastic job everyone, well done.

As someone who hates toxic PVPer (not all of them are) I will play on this 90% of the time for sure. It's the reason I come back to Sea of thieves. Then those "I have it all but like to f*ck with people who have no time and just want to chill" can canibalise on themselves.

I’ll be using Safer Seas for things such as opening 100 Vaults, and doing the Legendary Merchant Trade Commendation, also teaching friends new to the game how things work without worry of them being put off

I plan to use Safer Seas to fish when none of my buddies are on. I've never bothered to actively just fish since the several times I've done so, I've been attacked lol.

Ive been waiting a long time for this so THANK YOU RARE. & I guess Lol to all the folks who said this would never ever happen. Most of you were afraid of losing easy targets I think, addicted to griefing kids with simpleton tactic of outnumbering and said Rare would be finished if this mode ever happened. You folks did that mainly because you don't want your griefing opportunities to go lower, I think. I get it, that's what pirates do, so you have a great excuse to destroy 1 sailor with 3 or 4 guys and roll on the deck laughing. So, this means poor you now, there will be less 6 years olds and solo sloopers (easy victims) now. Whatever will you do? Now you might have to actually get good, not just outnumber players. I will use both; safer seas for all reasons others have stated, esp when gaming with my kids. But then I will also be using higher seas to solo sloop and again fight the 3v1 addict bullies on brigantines, and I will still win those sometimes (like 20%) if Im lucky. Lets go! thx again Rare. As a solo player im looking forward to do the tall tales without the fear of people tucking when i get back to my ship. I don't think for anything else though, thank you for you videos ❤❤

Sure, a lot of people will head to safer seas. But i think just as many will stay just because of the earning caps placed on it.

Personally I really need to get my umbra tattoo still and also my tall tales finished, this finally gives me an excuse to do so. Also fishing

For me I will be using the safer seas to finish off the Shores gold commendations by doing each adventure needed 5 times as well finding all the journals in the process, will be using the higher seas for everything else including the occasional pvp which I'm not good at but I accept its part of the game and if I sink well it happens and I carry on my session as normal once I board my newly spawned ship.

I’ll using it for fishing, doing tall tales to work on getting the gold curse and just exploring. I’ll probably go back and forth too.

I’m horrible at pvp and 90% of the time a solo player which believe me when you’re as terrible at pvp as me can be frustrating at times, however this being said part of the appeal of SoT is that we’re all pirates and run the risk of being sank, plunder being stolen etc. so I don’t plan on using safer seas at any point in the future🤞

If anything I'll propably use safer seas to film funny stuff, but I'm going to miss meeting new players organically and teaching them stuff like what that weird trapdoor under reaper's hideout is or how to lunge insane distances with the sword.

I kinda stopped playing sot due to general annoyance with always being stuck in a situation where I'm struggling to keep up with combat due to fighting a much better crew where my crew is just a bunch of randoms. may return to just chill in safer seas. I more or less finished most of the game already so is little left for me to do.

I'm going to test it out, see how it is. Most likely get the remainder of the shrine commendations and do Tall Tales. Probably also see how much loot I can get before PvE does me in, even if it'll be much less valuable.

Personally i think its a really cool idea of a game mode without having to pvp but the cons in relation to gold/rep being only 30% of total value, cant sail as a emissary and have a lvl cap rep is just why....let people play the game without at least the level cap and make it 50% on the gold/rep since emissary ships arent a thing in safer seas......

I'll be using safer sea to play with my son as well as to get certain accommodations done.

If I use the safer seas, it would be to search shipwrecks for barnacled chests.

I predict that solo slooping will become more dangerous than ever on the high seas.

I'll be using safer seas with those who dislike PVP but yet enjoy the beautiful world RARE has given us and hopefully one day this mode can add 3rd person mode for those who get nauseous from 1st person FoV.

I gonna use the safer sea to finish my livestock delivery for the merchant to finish my commendations :)

I think i will stick to the normal see excelpt for tall tales.

To relax and explore

I don't see myself ever using safer seas, there really isn't any point for me at this point. I'm already maxed out levels in all factions, I already have all my fishing commendations completed, and the only things I have left to complete are tedious to do, regardless of where you do them (animal/cargo runs). I don't see safer seas as a positive, the people who quit over the "toxicity" won't start playing again in high seas after they get bored, and they will, of safer seas. The people who will play safer seas have no desire whatsoever to play high seas or they'd still be playing the game. This will only further divide the community, making the shits who were toxic before, even more toxic. I'm hoping I'm wrong, in a perfect world, the toxic players stop playing due to safer seas removing their easy targets. They'll get a dose of their own medicine when they're constantly outmatched by like players and drop SOT like the plague. One can hope.

My husband and I started playing this game when it first came out... and left after some of the community became toxic - obviously it is a pirate game, but there are circumstances that are clearly not "pirate" and fall more into the "trolling" category. 😂 after we had a baby, I just had no desire to spend any of my limited free time getting assualted for no reason (like spawn killing, or sinking me multiple times when I have ZERO loot... 😵‍💫). So we stopped playing. And now, we get to play again in a low stress environment which we need being parents of a small toddler. Lol I think we will end up back in higher seas again too, knowing that we can always head over to safer seas to cool off. Have fun everyone, in the way you want, because that is the whole point of playing a game. 🎉

will be using to help train our crew and get familiar with game mechanics without losers camping outposts trying to predate on us as new players. (That loser camping was my first experience in game and it felt really stupid that a game allowed a more experienced player to sink and kill a person that is still learning the ropes and had zero loot)

Could safe seas be used to be able to invite my friends with their own ships and to fight and things like that?

I don't understand all the restrictions, less gold is fine but everything else is ridiculous, everyone here has had a toxic experience or lost hours because of one dude cracked out, why can't we just play with our friends

I love this, however they shouldn’t punish players for wanting to enjoy their own game.

I will not be using Safer Seas...Like many, I solo, most the time and would like a 1 v 1 mode or just a sloop mode. Tired of 1 v 3 or 1 v 4. If they wont do that, they need to slow down the Brig.

Seeing as 97 or 98 percent of people i meet and try to alliance with and do epic skeleton ship battles with shoot me just as soon as say screw you, ill be max rep anyway so ill be able to actually enjoy the game again AND not worry about players. I basically just only patroll for skelly boats anymore anyway
