That's the way the shields worked in the Alpha. They were really fucking broken. It was actually hilarious. Fun fact, that's exactly how they are used in real life also.

@cd7536 exactly my point. In the alpha, the way Shields worked was EXACTLY how real SWAT teams would use the shield. There was none of this whole "let me drop my shield to shoot you". The old way was super fucking unbalanced, but my inner nerd wishes that the old Siege from Year 1 was back

@@lrsb1678 ADS with a shield is almost completely useless because of how slow it is, and even if you pop it off and kill the main threat then you’re probably already safe enough for the time being to reload behind cover anyway. Hipfire was an important deterrent to stop people from ignoring you and just focusing on your teammates. TTK is so fast in this game that as you push into a room and begin to ADS a distracted enemy they may have already killed your teammate coming up behind you. And again very little of this even matters because the hand being exposed was the least of a shields defensive problems; far worse is the issue of getting shot in the feet/shoulder/legs/head because the shield does a piss poor job of actually protecting your body if you’re not extended Montagne. If they increased the size of the shield then I’d be more receptive to the change but as is I don’t see this trade being worth it.

The only way this would be fair is if blitz could aim around the shield instead of tilting it, LIKE HOW AN ACTUAL BALLISTIC SHIELD WORKS

@@Penigale ya but even if I'm crouched, my feet should never be able to be shot at. People wanna complain about shields because they can't handle thinking about teamwork to dealing with them when they have several ways I'm terms of explosives to counter them already

I hard disagree. Hipfire on shields feels awful, and I have always said that in order to make the shield actually "tactical" is to force an option on the user. Now you cant just rely on luck, you have to actively make a decision to expose your head to shoot. And just to clarify, your suggestion doesnt work, because the choice being made is "do I expose my HAND, to get a lucky kill?" And thats not a give or take, because the hand takes a good amount of shots depending on the weapon.

@@baguette1520 No, you'll see Shield Operators for a season at most, before people realize this is nothing but a blatant removal of shield viability. Not that there was much there to begin with.

I'm a shield main and I agree they are nerfs

Just to play devil's advocate a little, they were using Maestro with the LMG to shoot at the shield walking straight on clean terrain. You'd have to dedicate some shots to knocking the shield out of the way to get the feet, whereas currently they just have to hit your always exposed hand (Blitz rush and Monty extended excluded). Even a small lip of terrain or knocked over furniture should make you bulletproof in theory (explosives aside).

@KearoNasanam The foot shot has ALWAYS existed, and even now is more common than the arm shot. It is extremely easy, and makes shields genuinely useless in Ranked beyond a simple Monty plant strategy. Unless they "nerfed" it, that Maestro was just kinda bad.

@@get-memed you're defenseless with your shield unless you managed to blind the enemy with blitz. Before, you could defend at close range with hipfire. Now I'd say moagne will be very useless

@@get-memed Also, about melee, I don't know what will happen because I didn't get what they said about the melee. If your operator doesn't put the shield as hat when it gets punched, great; if it means that you can no longer hit someone with the shield... Then shields are just trash and senseless, because they're practically there to just ping things... And twitch can already ping and destroy things

When you shoot a shield it will tilt a bit to where the shot landed so when they shoot the bottom part the shield it will tilt a bit and exposed a small bit of the feet

bro, monty is basically defenceless when cornered with out the one shot downs with the shield, wtf is he gonna do when there are two people rushing him? knock over one of them? you'd at least be getting rid of one threat so you'd have a higher chance of survival against the other guy.

I also wasn't implying on making him blitz 2.0, there's a reason why I was saying this nerf makes him DEFENCELESS.
