Regardless how some countries interpreted China ambitions China has been influential and beneficial to global economy in many ways. They are not stopping regardless how hard the US tried to contain them and put any effort to influence the world how bad China is, China marches on without threatening anybody with military might instead China threw in billions of dollars to create this initiative to create prosperity and opportunities for its neighbouring countries. That is impressive. The world needs to look at China in a positive way and join hands to create a better, a more peaceful and cooperative environment for the world.

For seventy years after WW2 the west had their chance to help third world countries to develop. However, they were instead being suppressed, bombed, controlled by the west. Now the opportunity has come with the BRI to bring prosperity and lift millions out of poverty,.

BRI finally helps to link up poor Asian and African countries with the world and gives them the opportunity to trade their indigenous produce with other countries, besides many other national benefits like easier transportation. It is also to China's advantage, but what is so bad about a win-win situation?

All I can say is bye bye America winning a war is not only about big guns and bullets.

I found this documentary informative, perspective and objective. Indeed China has a vibrant economic initiative in the BRI that could take human ingenuity and economic pluralism to another level. Kudos to the wonderful people behind this project.

The new silk road is a new way to expand China's export business. Currently US is the biggest importer of China's export goods, therefore it would be hard to deviate itself from the US dollars but with the new silk road, China is trying to expand it's clienteles away from the US market. Once it is developed, China will move away from the petro-dollar, which will be the final days of the US printing press. US will file bankruptcy so fast, the americans won't even know what hit them.

Economic inequality is the roots of war. BRI will help to tackle that. There is no rationale for nations to conquor the whole world anymore, just regional readjustments. International trade needs customers who can pay, so it is only logical to maintain prosperity throughout the world.

Even if the BRI project partially succeeds, it is a good opportunity for all countries involved.

The Chinese are borrowing trillions of dollars to build this. The question is will the return come before payments have to be made. To those mealy mouthed US citizens that say China is wasting money i say you spent $5 trillion in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. What did you get ISIS and a stronger taliban. It missed the most important point. It will connect Asia with Europe and lead to a well connected Eurasia. China directly aims to weaken the USA in the longterm and change geopolitics.

Great documentary. Anthony Morse - your conclusions are very true. From a China Studies person - I too agree that Sino-Russian Relations are much more than the usual interstate interactions of hard power or soft power - there is an emotional aspect to it.

At past,Silk Road represents prosperity and wealth,but not war.China made contributions to economic prosperity rather than colonies which is totally different from western civilization.Nowadays China is still making its own contribution to the world with peace rather than war.

It is a great thing that the Chinese is working hard in revitalizing the traditional trading routes, the Silk Roads, that have been the corridors of Human Civilization for thousands of years! Trading is the best human exchange in-between nations , comparing with War which the Americans have been embarked on for too long!!!! War is an absolute destructive action benefits nobody and it wastes resources which are otherwise can be used to benefit human beings in general. Imagining if the Americans could put the 30 trillion dollars they wasted in the 30-year wars as trading investment to all the nations, what the world will become today???!!! But in stead, the Americans took the evil route by embracing the wars and made itself an evil empire! Now, the Americans started another war - trading war with the World: Iran, India, China, Europeans .... even its neighbors Canada and Mexico! Building trading routes is a very Smart Strategy for the Chinese to counter the American Trading War. China will win this trading war with the America by one simple factor: the geographic proximity to the population centers on the massive Eurasian Land Mass and the emerging African marketplace! I think most if not all of the West seem to look at issues and challenges based purely from their view and notwithstanding their supposedly concern for the developing world, they always want their interests to come first; hence their attitude towards BRI. Do note that many of the CIS countries are trying very hard to improve their lot being all LLCs. Likewise the vast central Russian territory is basically under-developed/ With this connectivity, Russia and CIS should be able to contribute to the agricultural produces in the 21st Century. It is sad to note that in spite of all the propaganda on wanting to help others to progress, the West have in reality tried their best to stop this progress. Both China and Russia require this connectivity to develop the sparse regions located between them. Against the current scenario of no business, it is a case of some business; albeit more expensive than other parts of the world; at least business can stand off at the fringes of these nations located around the region. Prepare, the West should think over a longer period rather than the next election!

When world are trying to build HyperLoops, China is building roads to countries that can't compete with China. Trouble is, it only benefits China as all this will do is let China export more and reduce cost of production for China. All the projects are China centric. Project has already failed in SriLanka, Malaysia. India and japan have already decided not to join, so where does that leave China. Please share any successful economic project where any entity other than China has benefitted. To the contrary, China has already been successful in destabilizing countries and taking people's right to freedom. Mayanmar, Cambodia, Laos are already seen the results. The narrator is so China biased and that's no surprise given that she is of Chinese descent.

i like Jack's vertical farming idea. The "new silk road" wont really benefit developing countries like Cambodia or Thailand other than updating their infrastructure. The real profits will go to established countries like China and Malaysia.

The overall vision and goals of this project Build and Road is not of China. The Chinese is just the implementor of this vision. The economic, cultural and political aspect of this project what it may come today and in the future are just the spices of what is being cooked. Read the Book of Revelation, that tells of the 200 million army from the east. Probability is that this huge army will use the Build and Road in order to reach it's destination of no return. That is why China is becoming a very agressive nation if not a superpower spending and building this project. China will be just one among the Vultures who smelled a carcass in the Megido area.

China the future

Great documentary, but it only tells the sunshine side of the whole project. It doesn't tell about the whole discrepancy and deception of how they sweet talked those poor countries to allow China to let them take their land. The documentary didn't tell about how the countries were told they'll have many jobs, but for the Chinese. They brought Chinese people to take the jobs from their local people. When the countries aren't able to pay back then that's when China took their country "lease of 99 years" or "lease of 40 years". The poor countries had to take their savings to pay for their constructions that they can't benefit from. All the plans in the world isn't to benefit the country, but only China. When the time comes and China wants to invade, those strategic "one belt one road" countries are going to be used for wartime. All the fluffy talk and propaganda makes everyone "feel good" about making the world a better place. Look on the other side of the coin. Trust me there is another side of the coin and it's not good. Simple question, how are the people in China living? While there are many in poverty, the communist are luring people with their money and production. So there should be a part 2 on this documentary to expose the other reasons for One Belt One Road. If only the documentary told both sides of the story, not just the sunshine side of the story. If you're praising China then you've been looking at smoking mirrors.

Belt and road initiative should involve Israeli technology industries. I have personally experienced the unbelievable designs that they offered as solutions to most complex engineering problems. I have great faith in Israeli innovation.

Britain is at the end of the belt and road initiative, from a geographic point of view and from a economic point of view trade routes have proven how geography determines destiny. That is maybe China's interests in the UK and maybe our interest in understanding implementing UK and China trade.

One of the most important junction of BRI is Gawadar port, which is a beacon of light and hope in this whole project of BRI.

China’s new Silk Road is a good thing for anyone in the path of the new roadway. Opportunities that did not exist for people in those areas are now possible. With that said the world now lives in a time where technology can bring videos showing this history evolve in almost real time. I am optimistic about China’s new Silk Road to improve people lives and economic prosperity. This is a good thing for Americans also because the new Silk Road will take pressure off people to migrate from desperation and starvation and allow people choices to choose to migrate willingly. Only time will tell if China’s new Silk Road is ultimately successful.

2020. How you feel about it now?

For every project there needs to be a business case. While for China the business case is exporting its infrastructure industry by providing loans - the benefit to the recepient countries is not convincing. The persons talked to do not clearly bring out the benefits of belt and road initiative. What was discussed was more of the individual business visions and models. As is the case with any push driven initiative there is a huge risk of being successful unless the pull sets in. The risk of losing sovereignty (pieces of real estates) is not worth the gamble.
