Try stepping four or 5 feet back from the service line while serving, you will be able to hit much harder with top spin allowing even more height. This also gives the ball greater spin speed off the bounce.

I have seen quite a few vids on creating topspin but yours gets into the nitty gritty unlike others! The grip and paddle motion instructions are very clear! Just wish I could afford that Titan!

I was putting mass spin on my serves, but the other day, I noticed they always landed right in the opponents wheelhouse, making it pretty easy for a decent player to return....I'm gonna work on this serve today cuz it makes alot of sense. Thanks

I tried this serve and was much more consistent than my normal serves. I like the big bend and hope to add more power as I get more comfortable. Good stuff.

Also Quang Duong pronounced...The qu is pronounced like gu in guacamole and the du is like y sound, so it's yoong. Like young but with an oo like a ghost booo sound in the middle instead.

Love the video - very clear explanation. I've got to work more on that whip element. ... Future enhancement: Talk about Speed and Acceleration instead of POWER. Most pickleball coaches talk about generating power when they mean either speed or explosiveness (acceleration). But in exercise physiology, they are very different things. Even wimpy (un-p bowerful) 10 year-olds can generate speed with the whip you're teaching. The whip is acceleration (explosiveness) to get speed (not power). Just like world's strongest man is not SPEEDY, and elite sprinters are not POWERFUL. They really are very different concepts.

I believe you can get the same paddle angle and motion without a grip change by rotating your wrist more.

How about just backing up behind the line? That would also allow you to get some more height while keeping the ball in.

I use an extreme western grip. Feels the most natural to me.

If the secret is a normal tennis forehand grip - pickle ball has a ways to go.

The easiest way to find the semi-western grip is lay your paddle on the ground and pick it up without rotating it.

Hmm Federer, one of the great forehands of all time used an eastern forehand. Some say he used a semi western but they are wrong. Look at slow motion Federer forehands on RU-vid and he holds an Eastern.

Why is a high serve harder to return than a low one?

You did a really good job of breaking down the serving motion but the grip part was unclear for me. I would have liked to see a closeup of exactly how the paddle is gripped, both open palm before its closed and after the palm and fingers are closed. Probably because I'm a beginner but you should make sure that what you are presenting is clear to multiple skill levels.

When do you switch your grip back to pure Continental?

I mean in reality the important thing is to just get the serve in because 99% of the time your opponent is gonna return it anyways its all about the 3rd shot drop or how well you play at the kitchen if you wanna be good in pickel ball

Too many people will struggle with the semi western grip. I am a 50 + men's pro player and have one of the hardest topspin serves out there. I use an Eastern grip and get tons of topspin. Having people use a semi western is not wise in my opinion. People will hurt their arms most likely.

Please tell me you didn't credit someone with inventing a high topspin drop. That's ridiculous. I've been hitting serves like this for about 6 months now. It's a high serve. With lots of top spin. Honestly, I didn't think I'd be getting tired of the pickleball community but here we are. Is it the money? Taking advantage of old folks? I honestly don't even know wtf is going on any more.

That's just the Jimmy Arias tennis grip that Bolletteiri ruined generations of tennis with. The problem with that grip is you can't hit anything besides topspin with it and it screws your backhand. With this size paddle or racket, similar to 80's racquetball, you are completely F'd in close quarters with that grip. In sports like this or Padel Tenns, half your strokes are half strokes or less, or should be, so you don't have time to manipulate the face around with the upside down topspin grip. So unless you are changing grips constantly, which is stupid in this game, this grip is remarkably stupid for just the serve. Unless you already use it for tennis and used to it, this is NOT something people should get into. It's not that complicated to serve. Just RU-vid video content.

Don’t believe any one person invented a serve. Heck I’ve been hitting the line with much power and height for much of my 3 month pickleball play. I thought height was bad but maybe I should not try and get it lower. I realize you should have multiple different serves when you play.

This guy doesn't even know how to teach bevels correctly. Bevel 1 is the top bevel when you hold the paddle perpendicular with the ground. Semi-western is putting your index knuckle on bevel 4.
