I’ll die laughing if achillobator was actually a troodontid that happened to convergently evolved Dromaeosaurinae like traits as a result of gigantism.

You guys are looking into this comment way too seriously :/ The reason why I would think it’s funny because it would subvert a lot of people’s expectations. In a similar way to how brontosaurus was invalid for over a hundred years but was somewhat recently becoming valid again.

Troodon became valid again
@Nrex117
@Nrex117 2 месяца назад
It was never really invalid it was just that a lot of the material that we thought was Troodon didn’t actually belong to it, which is still true, Troodon still exists but its only known definitive material is a handful of teeth. The bones that were once associated with it have been given their own genera however.

@@Nrex117 Pectinodon, Stenonychosaurus and Latenivenatrix (the current largest Troodontid). Though it looks like that could potentially change based on this video.
@Nrex117
@Nrex117 2 месяца назад
@@jacobniemann4756 Those are genera that were initially lumped into Troodon and all come from different times at least from the actual Troodon specimen which is a tooth taxon but not invalid even though being a tooth taxon as a dinosaur is about as useful as being invalid.

There is also a troodontid tooth from a currently unnamed animal from the Prince Creek Formation. Tooth scaling is pretty unreliable, however most estimates put this animal at similar sizes to Utahraptor

Fun Fact- the oldest definitive troodontid known is Hesperornithoides while the oldest possible troodontid was Koparion which is only known from a single tooth. Both of them are from the Morrison Formation and with a study in 2021 a suggest that troodontids evolved in North America with Geminiraptor showing the most basal characteristics of the family. Which comes from the Cedar Mountain Formation in Utah

Ah well actually a new paper is supposedly coming out revalidating Troodon formosus, we actually even got to see the fossil, I unfortunately don't remember the article or where the fossil is currently held but I do know it was in the Two Medicine formation

Very interesting. I think it's well within the realm of reason that a troodon species could get around this size. Especially considering the point you brought up about allosaurs disappearing. Adaptive radiation is fascinating. Also, you pronounced the name way better then I could. Well done 👌

Gigantic troodontids I thought were mainly located in colder climates like the high artic, as toodon fossils are known to be almost double to triple in size to there southern relatives in places like Alaska.

Dromaeosaurs competed against Tyrannosaurids to fill the vacuum left by Allosaurids. Assuming that's true, to me that's more interesting than a new species.

CRAZY that all the stuff we have found so far is like not even 1 percent of the total amount that were ever alive. Meaning things could have gotten even bigger. Crazy to think about

What if these giant Troodon's evolved to be more herbivorous, similar to the Therizinosaurs?
@enfieldlammergeier
@enfieldlammergeier 2 месяца назад
There was a paper published on Troodontids that showed some of them were omnivores, possibly with a stronger preference for plants. So a giant Troodontid being entirely herbivorous is not off the table. New biogeochemical insights into Mesozoic terrestrial paleoecology and evidence for omnivory in troodontid dinosaurs (Cullen & Cousens, 2023)

Umm... 4.5 mph is a good clip. Even if it was moving for 6 hours a day it is then covering 27 miles a day. Thats a lot of ground getting covered.

Giant troodon is far scarier than a giant velociraptor... Troodon was likely as intelligent as popular culture and science (from 30 years ago) would have you believe velociraptors were...

Troodontids don’t exist due to the troodon not being a true dinosaur plus either way it was a dromeosaurid when it was valid
