VW tells us that performance remains forbidden fruit in the US.
After sharing all the interesting technical specifications a few weeks ago,
Volkswagen has finally taken the wraps off the new Golf R. The sleek hatchback is another European powerhouse that's a true all-round performer that inherits all the hallmarks of its less practical sibling.
That means there's extra power under the bonnet which is home to a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine.
The 2.0-liter unit has been massaged to produce 329 horsepower, which represents an increase of 14 hp.
Torque remains unchanged at 310 lb-ft. It takes just 4.8 seconds for the hot wagon to hit 62 mph from a standstill, making it a tenth of a second quicker than before.
Opt for the optional Performance Package and top speed rises to 167 mph. As standard, VW limits the car to 155 mph.
