I saw these guys back in probably 2000, playing a tiny venue in Minneapolis (7th Street Entry, which is the part of the legendary First Ave where lesser-known bands play) opening up for Pedro the Lion. They played a double-header, an all-ages show followed by a 21+ show. I got to talk with Ben and Nick between sets, and we drank beers and talked about guitars. Super nice dudes. Ben was also playing bass with Pedro the Lion on this tour, and during the second set I noticed that during the DCFC set he was sweating like a hog...big drips of sweat pouring off of him. Then he got up to play with Pedro and after one song he looked like he was going to puke, so he got off the stage and Pedro played the rest of the set as a two-piece. And now they sell out arenas and tour the world. But I'm glad I got to experience them as just another band trying to make it.
Very awesome, this is like Death Cab playing Radiohead playing Death Cab. Love this inspired hot jam by a great band of true art rockers in the Late Show garage.
My god...this is incredible, they're still a great band but the energy in the sound on this live clip is mind blowing compared to now! Never seen this before!
Y'all, compare this to how they play the song now- it's pretty similar. They always play it faster live. Stop hating and enjoy the cool old performance
im a total metalhead. fav band is Metallica, but that doesn't change the fact that i love this band's music. great stuff. Tranlanticism is one of my most fav albums ever!!!!
This song is really hard to play on guitar for people that are trying to learn it, considering all the tabs online suck, and you cant play by ear because you can hardly hear the guitar. Will anybody tab this song out for me the RIGHT way? Also, they did great in this. Everything is perfect. Oh, and I think the bass sounded great at high volume.
@vsadlarry yeah i know and i do like them. all i am really saying saying is that my favourite album are the older ones such as Transatlanticism and Photo Album :)
@smeh69 they have gotten heaps better performing, but i like their older music better than their newer stuff. eg photo album and trans, better than plans and narrow stairs, but i still love all of their stuff :)
Bad sounding? Come on! When the album came out I saw this version first and was a (very little) bit disappointed when I heard the studio version. This is played so tight and look how easy it is for Ben to sing and get that clear tone. By the way, this is played a bit faster and half a tone lower than the studio version.
i think that instrumentally speaking, this band usually keeps it together live...the only shortcoming is the intonation in gibbard's singing on occasion(and depending on the show rather often). the bass is just overdriven though a RAT. If I were making a national debut as a rock n roll band, I'd want to crank it up to! Just an all around good rock band with a far better vocabulary of words and suspended chords (and a few diminished ones on PLANS!) than the average indie band.
boo, disappointed by this, it's my favourite DCFC song, I guess it was fresh but it sounds so amateur, too fast and not even keeping the tempo, the bass sounds like my old bandmate's $50 bass when we were 14 years old.. anyway nobody will read this :-)
