Long time ago there was a store called Borders and they'd have endcaps where you'd put on headphones and could listen to random CDs. I was in high school and I just randomly was able to listen to this album while standing in a store aisle and I just distinctly remember being floored by this song and its concept. Been a fan ever since. 20 years ago?
so bizarre to me still to think that we have to tell the future folks about things like borders etc where you could just go listen to music before you bought it lol
Late night in a hotel room on the road for work I was skipping through channels and just in time ti see McEnroe introduce DCFC. This was the clip I saw, and I have been a fan ever since!
Nice ... indy at its finest ....no screaming guitars .....no metal.... The next level of folk music Goes good with long Island tea....or a Alabama slammer
i've always known of death cab, but i was always a bigger postal service fan until one day i just played death cab on my ipod and i fell IN LOVE with them, i can't believe it took me such a long time.
One of the things I definitely miss about them being a 4 piece band was seeing Chris and/or Ben change instruments mid song so seamlessly. I was blown away by how they did that so well when I saw them live
They're INCREDIBLE live btw, haha. I drove a few hours and saw them in Kansas City, they were absolutely EPIC!!!! They're my all-time favorite band. They played for a solid two hours of pure awesomicity but they didn't play my favorite song (which is Styrofoam Plates) in the set and i was super bummed. But then they came out for the encore and it was the first song they played, best day of my life hahaha. Well.... i'm glad i told that near pointless story to a total stranger......
Well i'm glad someone enjoyed my story!! Hahaha, but yeah, i do the same on the piano! If you get bored you sit down at the piano with headphones and figure out how to play the songs, it makes for an awesome way to pass the time haha. Some fun and easy songs of theirs to play are like Passenger Seat and Different Names For The Same Thing. Title and registration sounds kinda cool on the piano too haha
@@kenmasters1803I felt like Thank You For Today was the return to form. Either way, I didn’t like Codes And Keys, and Kintsugi was just eh for me, but I love the last two
There are some amazing bands out right now, you just have to filter through so much crap, especially on the radio in my area. DCFC, Arcade Fire etc. are wonderful, and you will never hear them on the radio. You'll hear every clone rock band in the world, but nothing significant. This is a good time for music that is different, and it is getting better all the time.
11 years later, Arcade Fire are on the radio from selling out and death cab hit the charts a while ago. Dcab is still good though. Postal service still releases sporadically. Music didn’t really progress like you’d have liked I would imagine.
this band - DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE should most def. continue to make magic! They are incredible and are masters of their art.... I've heard far more depressing music! their music is emotive and beautiful!!!
Doesn't sound like there's much, if any effects. He's going through a compressor of some form (either a pedal or in the amp head) and maybe a bit of overdrive to boost the low end.
@ScaredPiglet Often, listening to stuff like this makes unhappy people feel better, because it's an expression of what they feel, instead of having it bottled up.
@YoureTerribl i would not say that "You are a Tourist" is a terrible song, but it seems like their new songs have less heart and meaning behind them. I guess I got spoiled with great songs like "Title and Registration" and "Transatlanticism"
@ScaredPiglet Hm, I don't become depressed listening to this, although the lyrics do seem sad. It makes me happy listening to music this good, but that's just me.
WeezerFan on their website it says Chris uses '52 Fender Tele Re-issue and Dr. Z amps. it says what pedals he uses too. deathcabforcutie. com, just look under gear.
