The New York Mets have the 4th best record in baseball, but choked a 10.5 game lead to the Braves for the division lead The season has been very successful, but the last 3 days have made it seem like a disappointing one.
Playing at a 95 win pace since June would win a division 9 times out of 10, the Braves however went on a 113 win pace since then. Only the Dodgers and Astros would've not "collapsed" if the Braves were in any other division. While the Mets choked the Braves Series, they did not choke the season nor collapsed. Having the T-3rd best record in baseball is a success in any measure.
@@mlbupdates365 If the Mets can make a deep playoff run, the Mets can overshadow the NL East title being snatched from them. They're def capable, though on the other side of the coin, if they choke the wild card series, their impressive 101 win season will be meaningless, time will tell.
the Mets did great in July and August, they just didn’t finish the job. they didn’t help themselves head to head for the tiebreak or against lesser teams. Mets had a great season but unless they go in a deep run in the playoffs that series against the Braves will sum up the whole season.
like AJ Minter said, the Mets didn’t collapse, the Braves just took the division from them. at this point the Braves have a lot more big game/playoff experience and you could tell during the series. the Mets came out flat and the pressure got to them. they got exposed at the worst possible time. when deGrom and Scherzer didn’t get it done they had no answer for it. Atlanta swept to get the tiebreaker. they might meet again in the playoffs if both teams happen to get through earlier opponents but the Mets will definately have to alter thier approach. they’re a great team but most of the head to head success was before thier easy schedule stretch where they underperformed and they never delivered a definative knockout blow. 4/5 in august was a gut punch but going 1-6 head to head later and being swept by the Cubs and losing series to the Nats mitigated that. they deserved the division but truly earned the wild card. Go Braves.
This topic is getting played out yes the Mets failed to finish in First Place too win the Division but Atlanta was still the team too beat they are the World Series Champs ! Mets still won 100 games and are in the playoffs... WHAT COLLAPSE ?
What's everyone gonna say when the Mets beat the Braves in the Playoffs or Win the World Series.. The Mets lost Starling Marte at the wrong time if we don't loose him we have 1st place .. If deGrom and Scherzer we're healthy all year we have the division... Did you forget about the injuries the Mets had all year never mind setting the record for how many times they got hit by pitchers
