Despite the modern references, the quality and delivery of the jokes capture the essence of 2000s abridged parodies well. Dying to see more, keep it up.

Lmao this has some real 2006 energy

I randomly stumbled across this, and I think there's a ton of passion and love put into this! Genuinely found myself laughing out loud at many parts and had it one while driving from work and really wanted to put my thoughts down when I got home. If not interested in a review, then just know I am looking forward to more haha Writing: I think a lot of it hits really well when you'd have characters genuinely bounce off each other, particularly with Yusuke. A real highlight was the entire section of Yusuke and the classmates and teacher. The pacing was perfect, and the dialogue was genuinely something I could see a smartass like Yusuke saying. The VA did really well to not sound like he's reading from a script (which is extremely hard). It didn't seem like a forced joke either, and had a clear lead up and punchline that did great. There were a lot of spots that it felt like the old days of when everyone wanted to be a abridger and would do the cringiest first-draft jokes, while others being genuinely well done and hilarious. I think it seems like there's a mixture of styles that may be clashing, so a few go throughs maybe showing the script or finished video to a couple people to get their thoughts could help a lot. I think overall what needs to be found is the identity that you want the series to be. It hopping back and forth from really solid character to character interactions to strange out of place gags (a lot of the Kurama section comes to mind with this), seems like a bit of work in really tightening the writing and pacing will help a lot. Highlights for me were the Yusuke-Botan interactions, Yusuke-Teacher, and a lot of the Koenma lines. Also want to add the Warehouse where Keiko was kidnapped, the entire start of that was extremely well written and paced well. Parts that really failed for me were the Mirror Part on the roof, Soul Orb part in the forest, some jokes going on for a little too long like the opener with Hiei's woman fear and the souls being edibles. EDIT: I did genuinely laugh at Kurama's story on becoming a furry and it's the fucking sad music from the show playing behind it. LMAO I liked a lot of the longer payoff gags. Genuinely having the joke of the mom selling her body not being shoved in your face (outside of one line from the teacher) is the kind of subtle humor that I think many abridgers are afraid of doing. Hiei calling back to his woman fear at the start 20 minutes later when taking Keiko was also really great. I genuinely laughed at the Romania payoff, having no idea where it was leading. Now for the opposite, some of the jokes had really strong starts, but then failed in the delivery, like the explanation of the three items. I was fully expecting a bait-and-switch where the final item of World Ending would then explain it would steal the souls of children to Yusuke's surprise. That's very minor and just an opinion but something I think worth mentioning since I think that'd have really completed the build up of self-explanatory but then the last one assuming it actually was but then wasn't. I think there's so much potential and with how many genuinely nailed jokes there were, with a bit of tightening up this will be a very strong series. Voices: I genuinely was impressed with the voicing. The only ones that stick out as needing work to me was the side characters and Kuwabara. Hiei was really rough at the start, but by the end he must have started getting used to the role as it wasn't as bad by then. Kurama also I feel like isn't sure how he wants to voice the character yet, but wasn't awful. The pot stuff was pretty hard to listen to as well. Yusuke's voice seemed to be so natural for him when the material was more his style. I found some of the deliveries for the cringier jokes didn't work as well, but when it's real smartass well done dialogue it seems so natural. Like I could see him actually being his dub voice with how well he did. One thing that stuck out was in the Hiei beat up at the end or anytime he's getting beat up in the forest, is try to have a lower tone for the grunts or pained lines. I found the raised pitch when going for the funny timing was kind of off putting, despite it actually being funny were his lines a little deeper. Maybe try to match the timing of being hit, or think about how he'd actually sound when hit. To see more of what I mean, check out the actual dub of the show, or in Team Four Star's Cell Saga when doing similar timings for that kind of joke. I think it just needs a bit less "fake" sounding to not take one out of it. I might not be saying what I mean well, but hopefully it's coming across haha. The rest of the cast not mentioned did extremely well in my opinion. Botan was dead-on in her deliveries and how she spoke genuinely excited to see more of her. Keiko I love the idea of being Yandere, and everything hit very well save for the eye static part. It surprised me too, because some of the lines I swear should have sounded so distracting or cringey, but she just full on delivers it flawlessly somehow lmao. If you took particular care in finding decent VA's you did very well, so with a bit more experience in directing them I think the voice cast will go far. Editing: I think overall editing was done really well. The family guy cutaway actually was pretty funny, though took a little too long leading up to it (the pull joke dragging a little too long), some of the blood looked really well done in some scenes (Kurama's mom being the weakest one), and some of the eyes and lipflaps were really well done. I'd say none of the effort was wasted, and was really well done. Audio: Overall audio was fine. Already mentioned how great the voices sounded, and mic qualities worked great. Maybe the intro, break, and ending the audio could use a little fine tuning. They sounded different from the rest of the video. Overall I thought this was fantastic, and wanted to actually comment about what I loved and what I think could have been better. A very strong start that I think could lead to much more. Great casting so far, solid foundation for comedy, and has a sense of humor that I think is sorely missing nowadays with so many old Abridgers actively disavowing their old series. Sorry for the long post, with very scattered thoughts (I know I'm missing things cause my drive was over an hour LOL), but I'm genuinely interested in seeing more and would love a comment like this on something I created!

This has some real potential. This is very high quality for a first episode. It feels really fresh and original despite that it has some resemblances to lani’s version and deathlymuffin’s abridged series (my two favorite yu yu hakusho abridged series). I feel like if this becomes a full time series it will be one of the best abridged series of all time. I’m really looking forward to seeing the next episode.
