The hoard was found closer to a town called Brownhills than it was to Lichfield, Brownhills or Ogley hay was in the dooms day book as a tiny hamlet surrounded by farm land not another town for miles. I know this area like the back of my hand, there is a shit load of common land from the hoard site going north.
I believe it came from Lichfield or Tamworth originally the hord most likely from a battle in Lichfield. Lichfield and especially Tamworth were the most important areas in mercia. Lichfield being the anglo saxon spiritual centre of mercia repton too and Tamworth being the Anglo-Saxon royal area for mercia. I would love to see how you make a map. I bought a metal detector spent a load of money for a hobby and not been out yet and really want to search a location i believe is important.
Lichfield lore website is a goldmine for information on this area. Wall nearby was roman Britain site and maybe the saxons utilised it too for a white. The firt bishop of Lichfield was saint chad . I live right near saint chads well.
Thanks i wanted you to help me with a map of the Lichfield area i believe a place called Christian fields in Lichfield where a ancient battle was there's likely many artifacts to be found.
Theres a old book i download antiquarian of north and south Staffordshire im must get around to reading of local lore much of this information get lost in time.
I'm sorry, I thought I would see another actual metal detecting video. I don't live in England and don't care about maps and such. Do like "TerraGermania" and show me video of you in the field or forest finding stuff. It doesn't have to be treasure, just fun in finding. I love the search. Cheers
Just a thought if you look at the border between Wales mersia and wessex, it's very close to the intersection of all three its very central from the wosh to the Wales shoreline it could be a burial to the gods or something like that its all war treasure just an ideal clegg keep going best of luck 2024 m
