People are being too hard on Ken Wakui sensei right now. The man knows how to write a story btw. Don't forget that this man is the same author who wrote a seinen manga called "Shinjuku Swan" which was serialized from 2005-2013 and has 38 volumes, containing 392 chapters. That series went on for 8 years and is considered one of the best mafia/yakuza manga out there. It's also really underrated, but whoever reads that really appreciates the writing. People really need to cut Wakui sensei some slack.
But the fact that he rushed to finish tr a good and interesting series and ruined the end of the manga just to start a new series making me mad , like he ruined a good series, tr have really big story problems but like instead of fixing them or doing something about it he start a new series, sometimes it doesn't makes sense in story or we don't know anything about takemichi's power for example, that dark implus thing ruined the whole story tbh and don't even get me start on the ending.
I wouldn’t put that much stock into fans online during a final arc. They said aot was trash, bleach, whole cake, wano, jjk, demon slayer etc all the while crying that said show should end earlier cause they get excited by their favorite arc and the cool down gets them mad. Same people who cry cause jjk isn’t happy hour would cry if Tokyo revenges ended on the sad note early. They literally got what they wanted just that it took time. They needed to explain stuff and even if it’s not perfectly satisfying it’s what he wrote as an explaination and resolution. It was all hinted at and fans gotta stop telling anime onlies to get bored. Like same people said demonslayer trash then anime onlies loved season 2. They said final arc ds is bad now they’re begging to get it faster. Just ignore em. Also they said bleach tybw was trash and anime onlies like it and no excuse the additions weren’t much yet same with aot the additions weren’t much besides accurate and not pirated translations. 😂
I'm gonna wait and let it build more chapters before I give it a try but like damn if it does have problems that'd stink pretty badly since this series is gonna be like his redemption
I started reading Tokyo revengers after looking at a spread for a reference - then found myself binge re4ading it - it's a real page turner, unlike the anime which I found boring and visually plain/boring. I did stop before the store suddenly recycled instead of ending, and I get the impression that was a good thing. I love Ken Wakui's artstyle and pacing.
It could be the other way around, where he just introduces characters and then is like, he's always been there you just didn't notice him. Which he did a couple times with Tokyo Manji members.
not ouji already doomposting the new series /j Astro so far for me has me interested but not invested. You raised some good concerns. Besides what happened with TR, this series in terms of how long will it be & how it can stay fresh when the formula already seems repetitive are big obstacles. There overload of side characters is also a lot of have early on. Silver lining there is (provided it survives an axe) a plan in place if we know all the siblings. However at this point in time I have more concerns & can't see the full potential here. Nothing about the power system right now seems interesting or deep. But maybe too early to say. The protagonist & his favorite brother also seem very basic as characters. Though they could develop. Also with it being a battle shonen the series will need very good sales right off the bat. The most positive thing I can say right now is the series does have some good heart. I like how the protagonist sees the current predicament as a sibling squabble. It's one of the better reasons for a character to not finish off their antagonists. If anything it's weirder that his siblings are so far gone. So I feel much like Yozakura family, a lot of this series greatest strength won't be the fights so much as the family dynamics, development, backstory, & whatever other emotional beats it has. However unlike Yozakura we won't have to worry about the balance battle & slice of life (at least I think so). My hopes for the series (if it survives) is as follows. We get more details for the Astro power system (as series like UU, JJK, HxH, etc. all prove that matters). More fleshed backstories for the siblings and in ways that help distinguish them & explain their motivations. Having our main character develop in a more interesting direction (not likely but I'll throw it out there). Take advantage of the setting of a ruined city to the fullest. Finally, end it a proper time (bringing it back to TR). tl;dr I agree with a lot of your concerns & honestly have a lot more myself. Astro doesn't have too much going for it besides it's art, name recognition, and heart. But at the same time it has time to really step to fix those things & polish it's strengths. Hopefully ending more gracefully than TR did
Naw your take is off. People don’t care as much as you think about power system uniqueness or complexity in fact they get annoyed and confused when jjk does it and just read for cool factor and seeing their characters. People love frieren and that power system ain’t hxh I’ll tell you that. Its characters or theme ain’t the most deep and dark take ever and so on. People just choose at random what to hate almost. 😅 most series are decent 7/10 to get published some just get attention and in suit the writer gets excited to try new ideas. So just support and let him cook. Hxh wasn’t any of the things you mentioned earlier at episode 10 or 20 chapters. Neither was one piece or so on. People to impatient today
@@nichescenes I actually do agree with a lot of what you said here. Most series are 7/10 and certainly Astro doesn’t need all the things I mentioned. These are just the personal things that I liked and didn’t from the series & what I would like to see from it. Also for Frieren, while it’s no HxH it does have many of its own great strengths in storytelling, world building, and themes. If Astro (or any series) can find its own ways to distinguish itself then that’s all the better. As a reader I can only make suggestions & comparisons to its contemporaries. You are also right that HxH was nothing like it is early on. But manga nowadays don’t usually go on as long & need to capture an audience fast to survive in WSJ.
I been liking the manga its mostly a typical shonen series so its fun. It was till the end of chapter 1 were i looked at the viz comments that i learned this is the mangaka of that Tokyo manga since i heared of it but never read or watched it so this my frist taste of the mangaka and i like his style of characters even the astros powers are pretty interesting. Now being show and mentioned that main character power is to much really hard because his dad also punch hard got me thinking of that axed series Return? Rewind? It was the world war 2? Boxing manga were kid is fighting yakuza boxing run matchs so he can get money for his sick sister medical bill. What am worried about is pacing since we like know main top dog is the first brother who thought he was going to be the new boss. Than there everyones astros powers like are the powers going to get stronger or is it going be the way they use them. The Shio brother looks like his tattoo became a snake so not sure why its going be strong. Its going be a nice read.
