The thing that set jerry apart from most is, he would play a small venue, and put the same energy into it, as a large show.

Something about Texas song writers. And thank you to Miss Dixon, my high school art teacher back in the '70's who introduced me to the music of Jerry Jeff when all I wanted to play was Pink Floyd. I was never the same after that.

@@futureiowawrestler376 I am sorry you missed the experience. But his music will always be with us. My older brother introduced me to JJW's music in the late 70's. About 10 years ago, I was driving out in the middle of no where in Nebraska, for work, listening to his music. I just had to contact my brother and share our memories of JJW. For years, I traveled and lived all over the US and in every strange new city, I always had JJW music and I was home. The other morning when I heard the sad news, the first thing I did was cry and contact my brother.

I went commercial fishing out of southeast Alaska the summer of 77. Captain had two tapes, Jerry Jeff Walker's second album from 73? And Jesse Winchester. That's all we had! Till someone showed up with a Kottke album. Dang this brings me right back. I think I love your music even more now with the patina of age Mr. Walker. Thank you for your music.

This is one of my favorite songs. I've seen JJW only twice over the years, about 35 years between shows! I discovered his music when I was about 16 and I love the man, though having never met him. His music helped me through a very tough period in my early life, and I still listen to those old albums today. It kinda takes me back to those sad times, but now I'm strong and I feel like his music is an old friend and we're laughing about the bad times now that they're past. I'm sad that JJ has recently been very ill. I know nobody lives forever but when he goes, I'll hurt badly. Here's to Jerry Jeff Walker and his great music. May we all live a life so well.

I want to say that I DO NOT want to see one of our greatest singer-songwriters go "silent into the night". I am calling for a renewal of "Scamp Music" to be produced by a great producer - Bruce Robison! Let's have a resurgence in such music in the same vein as the production in the 90's of Cash & Rubin! Bruce - get ol' Scamp down to the Bunker and lay down a bunch of tracks that we can all cherish for many years to come. Jerry Jeff is an American institution that needs to be heard - by those of us who have been "Tried-And-True Warriors" for many years - and for new audiences that may only know "Mr. Bojangles"!
