My copy is probably 20 years old, maybe more. I never really got into astronomy after that, but still enjoy looking at the the night sky whenever I get a chance.

Great video Michael. Some other targets that are becoming visible now to go after. The Rosette Nebula, The cone/ Fox fur aka the Christmas tree nebula, the Flamming Star nebula and the Tadpole Nebula as well. Besides the Orion Nebula, running man, Horse head and flame. And a somewhat harder target... Thor's Helmet. Great winter targets to capture or view. I'm definitely going after these whenever I get clear Skies and no moon.
@MrJcalais
@MrJcalais 8 месяцев назад
Christmas tree nebula is that southern hemisphere or northern hemisphere target?

You've added a great list for everyone to see! Thank you!
@211milkman

@@MrJcalais it's a Northern hemisphere target. It's in the constellation Monoceros. Basically diagonal down to the left of the Rosette Nebula.

I agree with using a CLS broadband filter for some objects- even visually. A light pollution filter helps some nebulae pop (to a degree) without darkening the entire field like the UHC does. Thanks for the video. I just ran across your channel. Subscribing.

It looks like you do a monthly Sky Watching video. I've been looking for something since Horkheimer passed away.

Yes, I've been producing this series for about two years now with new episodes at the start of each month

If you are an able-eyed person in the northern hemisphere who has not seen Jupiter on a recent evening... shame on ya! But the view is only going to get better this month.

Today early morning at 12 am I was able to see the constellation of Orion. I didn’t know how to use my telescope. A Astro fi 127 Mak. Like the centre of the eye piece was black. I used a camera and took a picture of the belt and I zoomed in and saw a fuzzy patch of light. It was the Orion Nebula! I live in a light polluted country. And can help me with how to use my telescope 💀

Congratulations on finding the Orion Nebula. It's a great target right now for the early birds out there. I'll be talking a lot more about it this December and January. Thanks for sharing your experience with everyone.

On 10 Nov, I was sitting on a farm outside Badplaas, in South Africa. It was early evening. The sun had just gone down and I saw a massive light falling from the sky for a few seconds. It disappeared behind the mountain. Do you think it was Comet Lemon ?. I’d never in my life seen something like this before. I was so taken back. And tried to explain to everyone what I saw, but they think I am seeing things 😂

Looks like you might have seen a meteor burning up in the atmoshpere.

My wife and I have been watching Jupiter, Saturn and Venus (in the morning) all summer and fall. Question: Do the four major Galilean moons all orbit Jupiter on roughly the same plane? I think so, yes? We use a pair of large binoculars (25x70) and can enjoy the moons but sometimes we see more than four! Must be some distant stars "behind" Jupiter.
@LateNightAstronomy
@LateNightAstronomy 8 месяцев назад
I believe they do. I did an astronomical league program last year tracking the moons and even though the plane was roughly the same the distance a few of them got from Jupiter surprised me.
