just think, games development was so affordable back in 2005 that they could make a 3d beat em up for The Nightmare Before Christmas with the movies cast. Now if we get a licensed game if its not a crappy phone game then it's a Lego tie in unless it's Batman or Star Wars
Pretty much this, a sudden boom in merchandise before or after KH2, and you can blame Hot Topic for that too. NBC was pretty popular in Japan already I think, I found plenty of Japanese merchandise during the early 2000s on various websites.
I have, at home, two of the foot-tall Jack figurines which came out exclusively in Japan. They're still in the bubble-packs, but they look like a lot of fun to display. Their main "collect 'em all" feature is that each one has a different head, and I think you can swap the heads between bodies, because each body also looks a bit different (hands, posture, etc.)
Christian WS Ah, DMC4 ain't that bad. I mean it's really short and it's really crappy how Dante's storyline is pretty much all recycled content, but at least the combat is good.
*"DMC and Bayonetta took game mechanics from a Nightmare Before Christmas action beat-em-up game."* That's a sentence I never thought I would say. It's the same team, but still. Mind. Blown.
Ghost Rider is another DMC clone that I say is worth playing. The soundtrack is quite good but it's been a while since I played. There was a Van Helsing DMC style game but I haven't played that.
I've played the Van Helsing game, it's great. He uses his grappling gun like Nero's Devil Bringer, and you can continue shooting bosses while they choke you to break free.
This is really sad, your uploads haven't been showing up on my subscription for at least 6 months. I checked out your channel by chance like 10 minutes ago just to find out that i've missed 6 months of videos.
In the early 2000s, Gothic style was on the rise and hit its mainstream peak with teenagers around the same time this game came out - 2004. That's when you saw all those Hot Topics open up and Nightmare Before Christmas was very popular with that crowd. There was a resurgence of its licensed products, so it really shouldn't be a surprise that a couple of games came out at that time too.
The Nightmare Before Christmas had always been huge in Japan, though. That might be why. That, and Kingdom Hearts gave it a global resurgence. As for the Gothic stuff... I have my doubts that was the cause of it. Goth has been around since the late '70s and early '80s... I see it more as lucky coincidence.
I want them to stop acting like sengoku basara doesn't completely destroy samurai warriors mechanic wise. They really need to get that game out there properly.
This was actually one of my favorite games as a kid, I never actually made any connection between it and DMC though now that it's been brought up I can't believe it never occurred to me.
If you thought Nightmare before Christmas Devil May Cry was a weird combination, you haven’t seen Magical Mirror Starring Mickey Mouse which is a Point and click Resident Evil game starring Mickey Mouse
I bought this game years ago. I play it almost every Halloween and Christmas. As a fan of both Devil May Cry and Nightmare Before Christmas, I think it is worth whatever fraction price you can find these days. It's a charming, good looking beat-em-up from one of gaming's most important eras.
I love it when developers reuse ideas and refine them in other games. Reminds me how Dylan Cuthbert reused a mechanic in the rather controversial Star Fox Command and implemented it in his original game, Pixel Junk.
The levels of regret I am feeling now... I just... I remember ignoring this game. I actually love Nightmare Before Christmas, but I assumed it would be a trash tier, low effort, rhythm based, license cash in. Until this video I hadn't heard anything about it, so didn't bother giving it a second look.
I played this game religiously as a kid, I'd assume maybe jack could only walk in the Japanese release as a more stylistic choice of keeping him in tune with the music, all of jacks animations were very stylish, he had class. wouldn't be surprised if his combat walk synced up nice with the music. the combat areas were also rather small, and your slime had long reach which would help with your slowness
GTH: grand theft halloween . You got the thug bruh jack, the gangstas lock shock and barrel, the mental guy dr finklestein, and the drug dealers the witches. Ok, virtually either all of the characters are the same person from gta or they don't exist, but I'm trying to be amusing. Grand theft Halloween released onto shelves 2/1/18. Buy GTH now! 😆😆
It was interesting to hear your thoughts on this game. i think RebelTaxi also covered this and complained about some of the mechanics like the save feature and of course the repetitive gameplay. but either way, Good Vid Brit.
my favourite part of that game is when the clown on a unicycle is running around town screaming on fire, and you can be santa jack and throw him a present. Jack's like "marry christmas!!" in a big deep confident voice and the clown is just like "AAAAAAAAAH HEEEELP AAAAAAAAH!!!!!" and jack's animation ends and he blankly stares at the clown die on fire
Hell, I remember March 2005. I was at Cherry Creek Mall in Denver.... heading for the Gamestop I knew what I was looking for... *Devil May Cry 3* Picked it up. Played it. Changed my life. I'll get an ISO of Oogie's Revenge. Might as well check it out. I'm starved for an action title these days.
This Nightmare Before Christmas game and that Ghost rider game should be re-released in HD on all platforms. Maybe Disney, Marvel and Capcom can make it happen.
I would've liked seeing the other holiday words too as a kid but let's be real Tim Burton wasn't involved with the game, they wouldn't have looked cool Also you could've mentioned more how the game replicates halloween town and the movie's atmosphere exactly, how it added a few more areas to it and the awesome soundtrack by Danny Elfman ^^
I'll never forget going into Gamestop asking the guy that works there if he had a game called "Jessie the devil" or something related to Halloween and he told me the only Halloween based game was Nightmare Before Christmas, Btw I was looking for Jersey Devil from PS1 that was very rare at the time or still is lol
Played it when I was young and as a result I of course remember it quite fondly. I especially loved the musical bits. Also it even had an original song that was actually pretty good?!?!? It legit sounded like something that could've come out of the movie itself. Like damn, that takes talent.
LOL I'm always happy to see you review another hack and slash, but Ninja Gaiden is the one I want to see you review more than any other game. Hopefully, you'll talk about the other ports for it as well. (specifically Ninja Gaiden Sigma)
