After testing the D780, I sold my Z6 and D750. The D780 offers everything that is great about DSLR and adds the Z6 mirrorless functions in LV and video. I understand the loyal D750 shooters making the D780 off as a mediocre upgrade, well, do not compare specs, test the camera in real life. This is the same upgrade as the D810 was on the D800 at the time. A lot more refined, amazing focus systems that combine ML and DSLR focus run on the Expeed 6 processor. The LCD screen is fantastic, IQ is improved at high ISO and it offers some of the functions found in the D850. I hope the next nikon DSLR's follow the same principles. With top f mount lenses I will net change to full Z mount as the cost of converting especially the lenses are crazy expensive. This is a significant camera. After owning it for almost 3 months, I had to take the dust of my D850 yesterday. I am not a crazy high mp fan, My D4s is still my main wildlife camera and the D780 all else.
@@suneejsulaiman Yes it is because it is a f mound and not Z mound so you don't need an adapter. I personally don't use 3rd party lenses as I have had to many compatibility issues. I would rather buy used Nikon. But that is personal preference.
Hi Jakes, First of all I looked at your videos on your channel and I must say it’s just BEAUTIFUL. I like your style, and it’s my dream to make a safari. Which place do you suggest for a novice ? I already went to Umfolozi but only for one day, it’s my unique experience. Second, how do you compare the D4s and D780 in term of autofocus, high iso, and overall feeling. Thank you very much Raphaël
Thinking of upgrading from my five year old D750....(also have a DX D7200) and torn between 780- and D850 (video is not a factor in my choice) Thank for this video!
Really thanks a lot for this nice video but let me ask for more on one point. So far I know D780 might be the only camera offering 900 sec. shutter speed. So I would like to see more detail about that feature that was missing in the video. Thanks again lot for the review.
@@EEEBA1 I see that Jakes de West below reports on his experience with the D780 after using the D750, and speaks highly of improved auto focus on the D780. Good luck with your decision!
@@neild108 Thank you. I just read that. Now I want the D780. Two weeks ago when I started my research I wanted the D500 now after watching many videos I already want the D780 lol. I'm greedy lol.
@@EEEBA1 For image quality, the D780 would be the best for sure, including hi ISO performance. The only drawback I could see is that since the D780 has a full frame sensor, it would not have the same telephoto reach as the D500, or as good frame rate (D500 can do 10 fps, vs 7 in D780). So if you're a wildlife or sports photographer, the D780 is not as clearly superior. Myself, I have a recent model full-frame Canon camera, after using the best of their APSC sensor cameras, and I love the low-light capability of full frame. For landscape photography, night photography, even outdoor portraits in cloudy conditions, I find the full frame camera MUCH better to work with. Nikons, of course, have much the same image quality as Canon.
Buy the D750 instead & with the money (around £500) you save put it towards buying a really good lens. This is a very lazy camera release, they could-and should-of made it so much better for the money than the D750 but it really isnt that much better plus theres no built in flash either. They obviously didnt want to blow their mirror less cameras away with this & they didnt want it to out gun the D850. But after a 6 year gap between this and the D750 the improvements they have made are pretty average at best.
Well. I owned a D750 for 5 yrs and a Z6 for 2 yrs. After testing the D780, I sold both. If your verdict is that the D780 is average upgrade they you have not shot the D780 yet. The focus system is streets better in DSLR/OVF mode and if you want to shoot live view or video you have the Z6 capabilities with live view focus that is significantly better than the D750 LV mode. Focus stacking and other futures found in the D850 that is not present in the D750. High ISO performance is also a lot cleaner and I liked the D750 output. The LCD is amazing and the clarity and touch screen function is very good. No this is not a pretty average upgrade it is a culmination of Nikons DSLR/ML technology combined in one camera. Another issue for me is the 1/8000 vs 1/4000 shutter speed.
