I have a nikonos III that I use at work at a surf camp. The 35 f2.5 standard lens for these can produce really nice sharp photos. I love the way it renders. I have always wanted to try the V for the aperture priority mode.
I've had the Nikonos V since the late 1980s. It is an awesome camera, however, it is pretty much useless underwater at depth (let's say more than ten feet) without the flash (I found out the hard way). Glad that you got one to play around with but I would strongly urge you to really inspect those gaskets again, make sure they are pliable and even lubricate them lightly before submerging the camera. My NV is in great condition but I probably would send it out for a full inspection before actually submerging it now.
cool! to be fair, we aren’t taking this on any actual diving adventures. mostly stuff near the surface. also, i have new gaskets and lubricant for the camera and it will be fully tested before it gets anywhere near water.
I'm guessing by the lack of follow up videos that you bricked the camera trying to take it underwater without a full service? For anyone else reading this, there are many more gaskets than the 4 user replaceable ones. If you're not getting them replaced, just use it as a rain proof camera.
You know, you can get an app for your phone, that will allow you to measure distance - or you can get an old external rangefinder. I have a few cameras with zone/scale focusing, and the app was great until I found the external rangefinder. Of course under water, that won't work, but it help on dry land... The shutter sounded a bit like my Leica M5 shutter.
@@ThePhotoDept bruv. i have one. i got it in near mint condition. i snorkled with it twice it's now dead. once you start digging into "why is my advance lever is stuck" youll uncover all the complaints from users who also have ded nikonos for various reasons. many of whom went through various bodies before giving up. once you run into issues youll reach out to the nikonos guru (narcosis) who will likely tell you it's not worth saving. here are some tips. even if your model looks mint, just send it to him now to have all the seals replaced and then replace them every year because there's no previous warning. also never ever force the battery cover. if the battery does not sit properly on the cover when and then you try and close it, the cover itself will push the battery in and crack the battery bay inside. it's very easy to do because you may think the resistance comes from the rubber seals. but no. and it's such a pain to fix that people prefer not doing the repair. i dont doubt that it'll stop a bullet but it's reliability for doing what it's supposed to be doing which is going under water is absolute shite . good luck!
