The Nikon Z50 is the newest APS-C mirrorless camera for Nikon's Z-mount. It has 20.9 megapixels, 11 frames per second, and 4k video (full-width) at 30 FPS. That sounds GREAT, but it has a few HUGE problems. Tony Northrup tells you about them in this video.

He is biased against Nikon. You typically won't see Nikon inviting Tony and other influences to a big Las Vegas event with sand buggies and other paid entertainment like Sony did in 2018. As a result Sony gets a lot of favorable reviews and positive coverage by influencers, while Nikon typically doesn't. Influencers need free content, and they also want benefits in exchange of promotion.

This camera is fabulous, massively underrated. Unfortunately many RU-vidrs are aligned with Sony and Canon so you don’t see this getting the praise it deserves. It’s an APS-C low light beast. The camera is so useable, it makes Sony look a joke. I think the Z mount helps with vignetting and edge sharpness too. I actually have the Z30 and I have had a lot of cameras, including Sony and LUMIX and this is my favourite. One thing I agree with, there needs to be more lenses, but the Viltrox line, particularly the 13mm F1.4 are awesome. Don’t believe everything you see on RU-vid!🤷‍♂️

@@Marvomat8291 and Nikon Z50 after the 2.40 firmware is even a better camera, with better AF. Plus Sigma now make lenses for Z mount, the APSC trio is available now. But the Nikon commitment to their gear keeping updated is a good thing. Couldn't disagree more with your general overview of Nikon's decision to bring APSC into their Z mount offerings. In my opinion this move strengthens Nikon's future, by having a single unified mount for both FF and APSC in the same way f mount does. This means only Nikon and Sony have this potential " upgrade " path. Some users of FF actually purchase APSC specifically for its crop factor ( sports and wildlife in particular ) so it's not so crazy to put FF lenses onto an APSC body. The reality also is most photographers who shoot FF now, started with APSC. Now I do accept that the Z50 could have been better but really it's very competitive as it stands against Fujifilms XT30 and Canons M series, neither of which offer any upgrade path to their larger sensor format offerings. I'm thrilled that Nikon are taking this route and if anything I'm more confident about investing in Nikon in the future. Currently my main mirrorless system is Panasonic M43, my main DSLR system is Nikon FF DSLRs. Nikons mirrorless system at present isn't there yet for me to wish to invest in. I think once we get into Nikon's second gen Z mount FF & APSC where it has matured with bigger native lens selection and features such as twin card slots, IBIS in all bodies and " proper " battery grips I'll be ready to jump in knowing I'll still be able to utilise my investment in f mount Nikkor lenses until, over time, I replace them with native offerings. Well done Nikon for doing the right thing for the long term I say! Nikon are seeing the mirrorless arena from a long term perspective. They have the mount to even venture into medium format if they so wish, imagine if they could offer APSC, FF and Medium Format with a single unified lens selection. That forward thinking may not reward them in the short term but may well make them the dominant player in the camera market.😊

In my case you are absolutly right. I have a Sony A7iii but purchased a Sony A6400. One of my reasons for that is the benefit of the cropfactor on aps-c. I have the Sony 24-105mm f 4 for my fullframe and is planing to buy the fullframe Tamron 70-180mm f 2.8 that is rummored to come and use it on my aps-c camera (35mm equivalent = 105-270mm ). That will give me a coverage of 24-270mm.

Well i do agree that having just one mount not like canon is beneficial for the system. What could be a better mobe for nikon was to gain more strength in lenses befor launching a mediocre apsc camera with minimal lenses. @andrear9500
@andrear9500 4 года назад
Agree. Did the D500 have a different mount just because of the DX sensor? Nikon never marketed the "one mount" as Sony did but they have been doing it for ages now. It's a right move from Nikon though I am not thinking one mount will speed up the growth of the Z lenses collection. Like with F-mount and Sony E-mount there will be 2 lineups anyway. An APS-C lens will always be lighter, smaller and cheaper than its FF counterpart. Sony went one step further by allowing aps-c lens on ff body in a crop mode. This is an area for Nikon to develop.
@ivankiefer3886
@ivankiefer3886 4 года назад
@@andrear9500 Andrea Rotelli part of the marketing from sony as "one mount" is becase they have not just still cameras but video all with the same mount. Not all companies have just one mount for different systems. But is mostly marketing just like the massive nikon mount that is just a little bigger than canon new mount. Not much to actually be better and they still make it look like a unique attribute for that mount again just marketing. But having one mount is the way to go hands down.

Hi Tony, redarding the Z6 and Z7, you said: "The Z6 and Z7 cameras need to drop down to five or six frames per second to really be effective". I disagree with your statement. Certainly, it was true before. But, since the firmware update v2.0 of May 2019, AE tracking has worked alongside continuous AF in both cameras highest-speed burst rates (up to 9fps (Z7) or 12fps (Z6)). So, basically, you absolutely do not need to drop down to 5.5fps anymore to do action photography with the Z6 or the Z7. In reality, now these cameras are really effective at 9fps or 12fps in AFC mode to shoot sport or wildlife.

I'm not familiar with the firmware change, but I do know that when Tony quotes numbers it isn't based on specs that camera companies put out, but rather how effective the tracking is as well. From memory, a few examples: Canon EOS R was only like 1.5fps, Fuji's advertised 30fps was in reality 13fps, etc. They do lots of measuring and seeing how the focus system keeps up and he counts up the pictures that are actually in focus. Just something to consider, it's a humbling metric for any camera.

First off, this may be the very fist RU-vid video that I think I've disliked. Ever. Sorry Tony, but you're flat-out wrong about the Z50. 1. Using the Z-mount for DX bodies makes *perfect* sense. It increases lens availability (or rather, doesn't exclude the use of Z-mount lenses), and even if much of that diameter is wasted *optically*, you get that much more room for mechanical things like VR, collapsing lenses, powerful autofocus motors, etc. The 16-50 kit lens that was announced with the Z50 is minuscule compared to the old F-mount 18-55 DX kit lenses overall, even if it's a bit wider around, and the test videos I've seen of it show it focusing amazingly quickly. 2. As long as you're using good glass, there is absolutely no drawback to using full frame lenses on a crop sensor body from an optical standpoint. This is a myth and you seriously need to stop propagating it. Will a crop sensor showcase the resolution limits of a full frame lens more acutely than a full frame sensor will? Possibly, depending on the pixel pitch of the sensor, but a D850 or Z7 will highlight those same limits just as much as a D500 or Z50 will. Either way, that's an issue with the *lenses*, not the mounts or the sensors. Will an FX lens be heavier and more expensive than an equivalent lens optimized for DX? Yes, obviously, but until Nikon starts releasing DX glass that performs to the same standards as their pro FX glass, the FX lenses are still the best option. Plus, they're useful on a wider selection of bodies (unless you get your way). Worth noting: I use a 300mm f/4 on a DX body for sports photography and get results comparable to, if not better than, using a 70-200 f/2.8 on an FX body in terms of image quality. Good glass matters, and until Nikon starts releasing high-end glass in DX format, using FX glass is just fine. 3. I definitely agree that Nikon flubbed up the selection of lenses with the Z6 and Z7 launch. Nikon was going on and on about how compact the Z6 and Z7 were...and then released no compact lenses with them. A "nifty 50" equivalent would have been *perfect* to launch with. I think the two DX lenses they announced look right on the money, and I'm happy to see some less expensive lenses coming down the pipe soon though, so hopefully that will get better as time goes on. 4. There's plenty of reasons why making a mirrorless F-mount body is a *horrible* idea. First and foremost, the flange distance (distance from the image plane to the mount surface) for the F-Mount is just as massive as the diameter of the F-mount is tiny. This is the reason why you can't adapt most other 35mm lenses to Nikon without hacking off part of the lens body or using corrective optics. If you want to actually be able to use existing F-mount lenses on a mirrorless camera, you'd be forcing the camera to be considerably thicker than it would need to be otherwise to accommodate that massive flange distance. Or, if you just want to keep the physical mount and forego compatibility, you'd create even more confusion than you complain about existing because FX and DX mirrorless cameras share the same mount.

Actually I like the Z mount on APS-C. Some reasons. The huge size of the Z mount and its low flange distance has one huge advantage: it will allow very fast nifty-fifty equivalent lenses to be made. The F mount was so small and far away from the sensor that the fastest 35mm you could get for APS-C was an f/1.8. With the mirrorless systems, lenses like the Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm f/0.95 for Sony E have become available, and maybe with the Z mount one can go even further than that, such that the APS-C optics are finally becoming competitive to full-frame in terms of DoF. Also, with that slim Z mount a company like Metabones could make an F-to-Z speedbooster allowing for full-frame lenses to be used without waste on an APS-C body. And, from a customer standpoint, I like being able to choose to buy full-frame glass sometimes when I plan upgrading to a full-frame a few years later anyway, and also swap lenses between bodies easily. It saves me money. Nikon has been very good at keeping their system simple, therefore the Z mount is a logical step.

Tony, I rarely comment on camera videos however I feel compelled to comment on this video. Unlike Jared Polin or Chris Nichols of DP Review who did a reviews based on several hours with the camera, you have not used the camera, so everything you say about the quality of the lenses, image quality and handling is total speculation. I take exception to you calling out Nikon for a single lens mount for both APS-C and Full Frame when Sony and Canon do the same thing. If Nikon is guilty then so is Sony and Canon. I trust once you get a chance to conduct a real world hands on test you will provide a proper review rather than speculation. However , regardless of what either you or I think, ultimately the market will decide if the Z50 is a good product or not. For the record I have a D300S with 3 DX Lenses and a Nikkor 55mm 1.2 and I see amongst my options as either a Z50 + FTZ or used D500 both will cost about the same and both have Pro's and Con's.

+Stephen As Tony explained in the video, Nikon had been hampered by their "small" full frame mount for years. So, when they finally do make a big mount for the next generation of cameras, it's an odd choice to, almost right off the bat, create a camera that will not benefit at all from said new and large mount. In fact, it will be a detriment, since it eliminates one of the benefits of crop sensors (compact lenses). Nikon should instead have spent their R&D time on developing new lenses for the Z mount, or a different camera. That's what he was saying.

He could not - there is not any optical reason for this and even if someone try to say that aps-c has more pixels per inch/mm is not true between the Z50 and Z7. Z7 has 45.7MP sensor FF and Z50 has 20,9 MP (eq 31,35 in FF) . So Z7 has more pixel density on sensor than Z50. In real life use FF on aps-c means that the vignetting almost disapear, sharpnes in corners is better, because you actualy use most sharp central part of lens.... if you look trough the window and someone covers the corners and edges it does not change sharpnes of street you actually see. Just quality and technology used in sensor could make difference on the same type sensors just one will be aps-c an other bigger will be optical result tthe same ...

I remember seeing that video but it relies heavily on DXO marks formula. If I have 500 lumens flashlight pointed at my FF camera with a 50mmf1.8 I’m getting 500 lumens hitting the sensor. If I shine my flashlight at my DX camera with 50mm f1.8 500 lumens will hit my DX sensor. How is there more or less light hitting the sensor? Isn’t pixel pitch taken into account in this? Technically this would be saying that a FF camera with a DX lens will be sharper in the DX area, than a FF lens because the DX lens is focusing “more” light to the center. Is that correct?

The Nikon 50mm f/1.8 FX prime, when put on the 24mp Nikon APS-C sensor, has SERIOUS issues with chromatic aberration, which only acceptably clears at f/4. I too purchased that lens to pair with my D5300, but soon I realized it wasn't a good purchase. I never shoot it larger than f/4. The issue here is that Nikon's AF-P DX 18-55 shows f/5 at 50mm. And that lens has comparable image quality to the 50mm prime, at the same focal length. So all I've effectively gained by purchasing this FX prime is 2/3rd of a stop of light advantage. That's like shooting at ISO 1600 with the prime instead of ISO 2500 with the zoom. One is marginally better than the other, but both of those are compromises.

I noticed that several hands-on RU-vidrs were amazed at the size - as in "it's small". Like smaller than a D500. Honestly, your comments are on Nikon's business plan. In that area, you may be right. I have no idea. My guess is that the target audience for this camera would only ever need the two lenses Nikon released with it. I used some of the Canon M cameras for a few years but became frustrated with the lenses and what Canon's lens plan was for the camera. I was also frustrated by the form factor - it was too small - when it's too small my smartphone is ultimately a better option. That's for me of course. I think the Z50 price point is very competitive with Sony and Canon cropped sensors. But you don't really address that. One more point - Sony gets much praise for one mount - is it a bad idea that Nikon might ultimately want to end up in that same place?

Sony is in a very different situation. Their mount is MUCH smaller (and thus their APS-C bodies are smaller than the Z50). They launched E-mount near the peak of the camera buying market - a time when people were buying more than 10x the number of cameras they do today. Sony has a full suite of FF and APS-C lenses already. They also don't have the incredible catalog of existing F-mount lenses.

The point being the Zmount is HUGE, the Sony E mount is not. It does not have the same body design considerations based on the mount size that Nikon does. Sony also already has about every lens type one would reasonably expect across both mounts. The Z mount basically has a handfull of lenses. The other point Tony is making is that Nikon is wasting resources in the wrong area, they need to foucs on full frame with the new mount, which is clearly what it was designed for at least until the market is saturated with lenses for the system. As usual, his thoughts are well thought out and logical. Mirrorless F mount would have been huge. One of Nikon's selling points is the fact there are decades of F mount lenses.

In many cases I usually agree with Tony but in this case I have a different opinion. I think Nikon is right in continuing with its tradition to use the same mount for its DX and FX lines. Canon use different types of mounts for their APS-C and FF cameras and they are often getting bad press because of that fact. I think the ability to use DX and FX lenses in an APS-C line makes it easier for customers to grow within the camera brand. They can do this by investing in FX lenses that they can simultaneously use on two different types of cameras. During a transition period, of course, the availability of native Z-DX lenses will be limited, but it is perfectly natural when you have an ongoing technology shift. Nikon has the FTZ adapter, which allows current F-DX customers to use their lenses and gradually make the transition as new lenses are available. So I definitely think Nikon is on the right track by continuing with the old tradition of having DX / FX in the same mount.

Now that the first reviews are coming out, it is even more embarrassing to look at this video. Nikon is starting to show that they have a very clear strategy for both ML and DSLR, that both systems have their place and followers, that the F mount with its big legacy of lenses will coexist with the new standard in photography the Z mount. The same with Canon. Sony is trying it's best to discredit the DSLR as they lack way behind in the amount of users that come with this legacy and in both cases will be able to use both systems not as competitors but as two systems with specific applications and users preference. Many Nikon users want a smaller system for traveling light or daily use, but do not want tp compromise the benefits that the big DSLR bodies and FX lenses offer for their work. Arrive the Z6/Z7 and Z50 and whatever the future will hold. this means less people would want to sell off their systems to get into Sony with its excessively expensive big glass.

I do think Nikon did a smart thing and used the z Mount and not wasted time and development around another mount. Yes the lenses are going to be bigger, but look at the crazy size lenses that go on the Sony A6000 bodies. The Z Lenses are extremely good lenses. So I am hoping that will carry over to this camera as well. And if you look at Jared Polins Review, the Z mount lenses are proving to be extremely good.

Charles Wilson its not just that but using the z mount is a good option it allows you to use the z lenses and not go into another lens system like the canon m series like the m50. Also the quote was referring to the fact the the image quality is amazing because it allows you to use the very sharp full frame z lenses not that the mount makes your image quality amazing. As I said before, I have placed a preorder on Z50 and I would like to explain why i did that. The main reason is that it is lighter and compacter. I intend to use the camera for filming 4k videos on the go. I travel a lot and i travel light. More often than not with the cabin luggage only. With this body and the small kit lens i can use the smaller (and cheaper ) gimbal, like Zhiyun m2 instead of twice as expensive and three times bigger models for fullframe cameras. SD cards are way cheaper than XQD, four-five times cheaper to be exact but still do what is expected from a memory card. So what's the point, why spend more? I do not require 10 bit 4:2:2 colour coding. Simple 8 bit is more than good enough for 99% of the population including me. And 8 bit can be edited on a moderately powerful laptop, no high end editing station required. You see, Tony, I know what I need, I need the smallest and lightest set possible, that will still ensure a good quality, maybe not stellar, but very good. Something that I can submit to a micro-stock agency and not get rejected. And Nikon knows that there is a lot of people like myself, and they have announced the camera for me, Tony. This one is not for you, it's for me. I will buy it and I know that I will be good enough for anything I could ever want to do with it. So please tell me Tony, am I really making a HUGE mistake by selecting the gear that all combined weights two times less, costs four times cheaper and gets the job done? Is the mistake that I am making really worth capitalizing every letter in the word HUGE?

Why would they use the F Mount on the Z system? If I buy a full frame Z lens it would at least work on the Z 50. If Nikon used an F mount size mount they would have to make it with the same flange distance as the DSLRs which would eliminate part of the benefit of having a mirrorless lens. If they didnt have the same Flange distance you'd be confusing everyone. If the thought process was something similar to an F mount that means Nikon would have to make 3 different 70-200 F2.8 sport lenses because like you said, you never suggest people put full frame glass on an APS-C Sensor. I've added a Z50 to 4 full frame and cut frame Nikons. I've shot Flat Track Roller Derby for about ten years as well as nature and landscapes. I'm accustomed to the difficulties shooting fast action sports often in low light venues. Focus with the 70-200 f/2.8 has been quick and pretty accurate. That lens does very well on the Z50, but the 50-250mm kit lens is amazing. I've shot birds and wildlife with very good focus acquisition and a high percentage of very sharp "keepers". Shooting birds in flight is very similar to shooting "jammers" in a dark arena. I'm going to add the Nikon 200-500 for an extended time in Costa Rica this year. My only complaint is when using my SD700 flash for subjects like Hummingbirds, I can not use the viewfinder and only have the back screen. I've dealt with difficult focus issues for years and this camera is excellent and fast whether using the 70-200 or the kit lenses. I've used a large variety of F lenses. The only issue was that some (like my Nikon 200mm f/4 macro) don't auto focus so I only use it in manual focus and move the lens for focus like all my macro work. The flash operation was a bit quirky and took some time to get working to my satisfaction, however. I've been a Nikon shooter since the 1960's and Tony needs to take the Z50 out and shoot with it before the negative comments.

He has a point. The camera will make a 20.9 megapixels image from a cropped section of the image made by the lens. So you lose sharpness. That lens will produce much sharper image with a 20.9 MP full frame sensor. You're carrying that weight of the full frame lens for no reason. So why not make everything full frame and ditch the APS-C sensor on the new system. I'm not talking about a small 50mm lens. Imagine paying all the money and carrying a big 70-200mm f2.8 and shooting at reduced sharpness. They are not gonna launch such good lenses for apsc. So people will have to buy the full frame lenses.

@@operatora588 Sensors are silicon from wafers usually 300mm diameter, FF sensor are 864 square mm, APSC are 368 sq mm. Yields on big dies are much less than small dies due to defects in the process. You get 52 full frame sensors on a 300mm wafer with over half containing defects, you get 147 APSC sensors on that same wafer with only 30% containing defects. So that's 103 APSC sensors without defect vs 23 FF sensors without defect. So it costs 4X as much to make a FF sensor than it does an APSC sensor with typical yield rates, not twice as much. Even ideal scenarios where defect redundancy increases yields to over 90%, it still costs about three times as much to make a FF sensor. You aren't comparing apples to apples with sharpness, you actually have to increase your distance to the subject on crop sensors to get the same framing as a FF, that's why it appears to be less sharp. That's why a 35mm lens is your nifty 50 on DX. It's also no less sharp on a Z50 Dx sensor, than a DX crop from a Z7 using the same lens.

If you put an APS-C lens on a full frame body, most cameras will crop down to use a smaller portion of the sensor. When comparing them to images that used the full sensor, they would look significantly less sharp because they've lost something like half or two-thirds of the sensor size. The Sony A7rIII goes from being a 42 mp beast in full frame to a 18 mp "meh" in APS-C. It's not bad, and for certain applications it's fine. Because then you can have a cheap backup Z50, or you could use your Z50 for travel and your Z6/7 for work. And you can use all your lenses with both cameras. Because you can buy a cheap Z50 and lenses, to later upgrade to full frame. And so on. See Canon, their M mount is useless and forgotten. Resale value on lenses isn't great, because there aren't that many people interested in the format. And there are close to no second party M lenses. Lenses being huge for the Z50 isn't true, Nikon announced 2 new lenses and I'd guess more will come. Problem number two: it's actually easier to shop knowing you only have to look for "Z" mount. Furthermore, the two APSC "kit" zooms have quite good image quality. Take the Z50 with two kit zooms, each having vibration reduction, then over time add a Z series 85mm f/1.8 for portraits and done. Maybe the 50mm f/1.8 or 24mm f/1.8. And a Flashpoint flash. On the other extreme, a pro can toss a Z50 into a bag with other full frame Nikon Z gear and not miss a beat. Note that Nikon's initial full frame primes are relatively affordable f/1.8's (compare to Canon's full frame mirrorless mostly over $2k due to f/1.4, f/1.2).

What difference does the size of the mount make if the camera remains small?
@infinitumstudio
@infinitumstudio 4 года назад
Tony, first your are giving an opinion on a piece of gear you haven't even apparently touched ! Everybody seems to agree eye detection on the Z50 is really good (maybe not quite as good as other brands but good enough anyway). Now talking about mount decision, it's true that a F mount would have given immediate access to existing DX lenses (and FX) but this is short term vision. In a conservative company like Nikon I they think long term and profitability! In in the long run people won't even remember the F mount apart obviously from older customers. Young people don't really care I guess. Nikon also want to cash money, so a new mount is a good way for it. Let just hope they will develop better Z DX lenses as most in the F mount flavour are not quite top of the range. Time will tell. Now, customer interested in loog telephoto zooms or primes will be happy to mount them on a Z DX mount to gain extra reach! Or do you want them to buy a new adapter? So, I don't think they made a mistake if you consider a long term strategy. Plus the Z50 is just the first APS-C body. I guess they will soon launch a more "pro" body (plus probably an entry level one), more suitable for video with headphone conector and IBIS and here is where a larger mount is welcome even if you're going to tell us "they made it in the Z6/7 format" ;-) So in my opinion you are suffering from 1) a short term vision, 2) not thinking from a financial Nikon perspective. With this new Z50+2 kit lenses they are going to attract new customers by hundreds of thousands, especially before Christmas holiday and maybe Black Friday. This will give them cash enough (I hope) to develop other lenses and bodies both in the full frame format and APS-C one.

@Dave_en

Compatibility among different platforms is a nice thing to have but full frame lenses are not fully optimized for apsc bodies due to large image circles projected by those lenses resulting in slower shutter speeds. But it's not a big issue. It's a good alternative if a dx lens is not available in that focal range.
@MrMinitown
@MrMinitown 4 года назад
@@Dave_en Well I don think tony's complaint was having to use full frame glass on aps-c bodies (because there are aps-c lenses for this z mount) but he thinks that those aps-c lenses are going to be too big and heavy due to the large mount. But I think I would rather buy full frame glass now for my aps-c body then upgrade later than have to buy all new glass for a full frame camera.

@@BernardSolomon The Camera industry is in steep decline, and there will be far fewer players 4 years from now. Nikon DSLRs are outselling their mirrorless camas 100 to 1 (on Amazon anyway) and Nikon is spiraling into bankruptcy. Huge difference, amazing pictures, easy to use Compared to Canon, and the most important is ; amazing in the low light area and indoors. in a very low light indoor this Z50 worked like a magician without flash, you see the ISO increase and decrease while getting the perfect picture with no editing, yes amazing, I respect Tony I like his previous videos, I don’t agree with him about Z50, Its a great Camera.

The two lenses available seem to be in another league to smartphones. The camera is almost pocketable as with the collapsing lens. Only thing missing is image stabilisation. Nikon's original lens mount was always quirky and they are brave for going for a total revamp. For all the faults mentioned I don't think anyone would be disappointed with this camera, the pictures speak for themselves and the brand is a household name with kudos. It will be all down to discounted price point, and that name.

Saying that the Z-mount is a total waste on an APS-C is a little bit of an oversight in my opinion. It's not the diameter that matters. It's the flange distance. Both FF and APS-C can benefit from that. Based on the actual Z50 reviews that are out there, the 18-55 DX Z mount lens appears to vastly outperform the 18-55 F mount lens. The F-mount is going away. Nikon developing new products for it does not fit well with their strategy. Also, FTZ adapters can be found rather inexpensively. I think the one valid point you made here was that the lack of IBIS on the Z50 presents issues if a person wants to buy a better S lens. Unless they develop DX primes on the Z mount, this will present problems later on down the road.

I do not understand why you're so negative about some subjets: 1. why z mount for apsc is a waste? basically, someone can buy z50, save money for fx lenses and then just switch body to a higher one (z6 II for example) after a couple of years 2. why there is no IBIS in Z50? just because it was meant to be entry level mirrorless camera, that needs to be cheap 3. why DX/FX signature is nikon's fault? as far as I know (this also points to point no. 1) sony has E mount which is mounted in APSC and FX mirrorless cameras + lenses are signatured by E/FE, so the difference between them is just ONE letter. same situation as with FX/DX... confusion of customers isnt any valid argument poiting that z50 is a weak camera 4. not enough lenses? there is an FTZ adapter, i just upgraded my d3100 to z50, bought an adapter and all of my lenses work like a charm, I would even say - better than with d3100 + kit lenses for Z50 are far way better than 16-55mm dx and 55-200mm 5. z mount system doesnt have enough lenses because it is young, how nikon was supposed to fix this? realease 30 lenses right away? they got kinda tight on budget, I believe they tried their best to make all the new Z cameras and lenses already... 6. talking about nikon wanting to make money by accesoriess? I believe that was canon that sells some of its mirrorless cameras without EVF basically, you didn't even tell any flaws of z50...you just told your grudge about whole Z series and nikon company instead... you could at least, i dont know, compare AF systems, ergonomy, battery, image quality on stock lenses, noise on high ISO, you could even give z50 a bad point because it has only 1 memory card slot...but nope, better be biased towards some company without any proper reason - z50 is not a bad camera just because you don't like nikon.

Sorry man but your logic is not that great in 1 particular area. Full frame lens with cropped sensor. 1st you are not loosing any quality by using full frame lens, 2nd lens will just work, and if you buy a really great lens you can use that until the Z mount will be out in another 20-30 years.What that does is cut down the cost of upgrading. We will eventually see a full frame Z mount camera for 1k or less, and if we buy a z50 now with some very good, over the top lens, all we have to do in the future is to upgrade the electronics, that are always going down in price. Sure at day one is a wasted potential, but down the road it will translate in saved money.
