@@Kilo_MilesThe standard 3ds won in design because it was very sleek and I loved the way the clamshell kinda sealed closed. But besides asthetics, the 3ds xl was better in every way
Core memory of mine is that I finally got a 3DS in Cosmo Red as a reward from my dad for doing well in school as I'd urged him all year about it, and then literally the next week the 3DS XL was announced in the Nintendo Direct
When I was in middle school, I remember finally convincing my parents to buy me a 3DS XL. They got it in January of 2015... One month before the *New* 3DS. Still hurts to this day.
Exact same situation. I think it was already announced when I bought mine but my family just opted for the cheaper version. We didnt know nintendo would drop support for the classic like a brick
I had a normal 3DS that got stolen. After I got my first job, I was looking into buying myself the New 3DS when I saw the order history (shared the amazon account with my mom) and saw a 3DS XL in there 💀 So I both had to act surprised when I got the gift and not buy the New 3DS because I didn't want to just immediately replace a gift.
Memory of mine: My Dad said he would get me a Nintendo 3DS when I was 11. But Christmas that year, I was 7, and unwrapped the Nintendo 3DS XL in blue. My Dad went "Whaaaaat? You're not 11!" And I just said "Uh, yes I am!" I don't think I could ever be that cool again.
If Scott's gaming shame was getting a DSi while he still had a perfectly fine DS Lite just because of a camera, mine was getting a NEW 3DS XL while I still had a perfectly working 3DS just because of SNES games. I honestly forgot that there even was a vanilla 3DS XL.
@NovaMaster375 I've emulated snes on a cfw 3ds xl, and it is not perfect whatsoever. It works but it's too choppy for it to not annoy "purists". Have you ever emulated snes on a vita? It's a more powerful system yet it still sucks at snes. Even with max overclock a lot of games will drop frames or straight up not run at full speed. You do need a new 3ds for a perfect experience, because the new 3ds actually has a faster CPU than the ps vita and emulation is CPU intensive. The only person I've heard saying the snes thing is a marketing gimmick is scott, who probably isn't as experienced with emulation. Nintendo needs performance to be consistent before they can sell the games on eshop (i say after how 64 ran on switch)
@@hikerclarence7092 that has nothing to do with the 3ds itself though. the dsi hates running gba games even though the ds lite and ds run it perfectly through the card slot
3DS XL way my favourite 3DS model Stylus was in the right spot, L + R and circle pad were big, Start, Select and Home were in the best place, volume slider was in easy reach. And the SD card wasn't in an absolutely unreachable spot. It was the best model imo
I think when the phrase "I have big hands" was as common as it was, the people saying it probably actually had average size hands and the 3DS was just too small all around
Worth noting too that smaller hands are more common in Japan since people there are shorter, so handhelds like the original 3DS were designed with that in mind.
I missed the whole 3DS era sadly. I was in my teenage edgy "Nintendo is dumb I only want gritty and gorey shooters" era during that time, but in 2020 I picked up a used 3DS XL off of ebay so I could play some of the stuff I missed, and I had a good time with it! Only issue I had is that at one point the top half of the circle pad stick broke off and just completely crumbled. I was able to glue the actual rubber pad back on the stick at least without too much issue or mess, but now it feels a bit off whenever I play since the upper half of the circle is missing. Still more than playable at least, and other than that it's worked very nicely for me
3DS XL has a special place on my heart, being the first console I bought first-hand on release month with my own money, I take countless picture of it and basically become my second gadget beside my cellphone that I brought daily with me, surprisingly robust and it survives 7 years of use until 2019 when I bought switch lite.
My 3DS XL died years ago, and I’ve been wanting to replace it forever. So I decided to this week. And it arrived today, and it’s the exact same color as the one in this video. That’s pretty cool f*cking timing.
Fun fact: I had my 3ds XL on the school bus a few years ago and some kid slammed his bag into it while getting to his seat, so it fell on the floor. I pick it up, and somehow it still functions, but the two screens were just barely holding onto each other, pretty much just with a couple wires holding it together 💀
That's a fun fact? "Fun fact guys, did you know RU-vid commenter 'pokeminion64' had a 3ds and some kid hit it with his backpack? I dunno I guess it still worked but had some damage to it,not totally sure"
i grew up with a limited edition mario version nintendo 3ds xl, and i loved it. 5 years later i accidentally stepped on the screen and had to get a new one which ended up just being the original model, and since then i have missed my xl. the nintendo 3ds xl holds a strong place in my heart that i dont think even a new nintendo 3ds would take away if i got one
If you're talking about the red one with mario on the front and luigi on the back, I still have and use mine and it's AWESOME. I even homebrewed it recently
Oh man, I had this exact model of the 3DS XL (mine was an EU model, however), and Jesus man, the amount of hours I clocked in on this thing. Some of my best moments in gaming ever came from playing this thing. Insane. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I really appreciate it.
I got my first 3DS from my cousin, who got a day 1 black 3DS to play OoT3D, and eventually I got the LBW 3DS XL for Christmas of the year it came out and it’s been my main 3DS ever since! I’ve modded it and still play it a bunch to this day!
I never understood the complaint about the placement of the styles on the original 3ds, like i mean sure the first few times you'll probably have to actually look where it is, but once you know where it is you never have to look again
The 3DS XL was more like what the launch 3DS should’ve been. Even though I don’t like the color scheme of that 3DS XL, it was the revised design that helped boost the 3DS sales!
I grew up with an 3DS XL. I remember to this day, my first ever game i played was pokémon Y, and i was five. I had every pokémon game because my brother was a massive fan, and he made me into another massive fan too lol. I also has NSMB2 and i loved that game. Eventually we had to sell it together with our wii u to be able to afford a switch, but pretty much my whole childhood (5-10) was playing on that 3DS. Good times...
The 3DS XL is really good. Unfortunately, I broke mine in July after trying to play the Golden Temple level in Donkey Kong Country Returns, but I’ll never forget the good times I had with that thing 💖
My 3ds was a balck XL one. I loved it and never had a problem with it. The screen was great. And playing ds games on it is great because everything is so big on it. The games translate well to the larger screen
Growing up I loved my 3DS so much so getting an XL was one of the best Christmas surprises I ever got and spent the whole day trying all my games on the bigger screen
My memory of the 3DS XL is I upgraded soon after it came out, barely used it, bought a New 3DS XL when it came out, and sold both my original XL and old 3DS AND DSiXL at a garage sale. I have since gone back and repurchased all of those....
I used to play on an original 3DS from 2011 when I was a kid. Nowadays however, I'm almost 20 and find myself spending more time on my younger brother's XL model. There's something about how nice it feels in my hands and the screen being perfect for me (I have poor vision), not to mention the fact that I can find larger batteries for the console to make it last longer. Honestly, I would've preferred getting a New 3DS XL model had I waited long enough, but I can't complain with the 3DS XL, it just feels right.
I had a blue 3ds xl, loved that thing. So many memories. One day it fell out of my car onto a manhole cover and the top screen was done. My dad tried to replace it but it was too confusing for him, thankfully the new 3ds came out a couple weeks later. I love my new 3ds but man do I miss my old 3ds and AC:NL which I had digitally.
The 3DS XL showed up right after the Ambassador program for early 3DS adopters ended. I got the white version with 3D land, but ended up playing and finishing most of my DS library.
I loved my blue 3ds xl I got it for my birthday in 2015 and had great memories with it playing Mario party island tour Lego Batman 2 Mario and Luigi Dream Team and Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga and losing my stylus.
The only reason why I upgraded to the 3DS XL was because my original turquoise 3DS got stolen. In retrospect, it was the best upgrade I ever had. Battery life and stylus placement were some of those upgrades, but there was something far more important. One of my biggest issues was the power button placement, which did not translate very well coming off of the DS Lite and DSi XL that I had. The Start and Select Buttons, normally on the bottom right, were moved to the middle bottom on the 3DS, and in place of that was the power button. Every time I panicked and wanted to pause, I would hit the power button by accident and lose my progress in whatever game I was playing. The 3DS XL swapped sides, placing the power on the left side and leaving just an empty space. More importantly, however, the middle buttons were so much larger and easier to press.
I remember when I went from my DSi to the 3DS XL. I was blown away from the sheer size difference of the thing. I can't hold a normal sized DS ever since.
There was a 3DS for every situation: 3DS - Collectable / Keep in the box 3DS XL - Multiplayer for friend 2DS - Mod 2DS XL - Install a capture card New 3DS - Play on the go New 3DS XL - Play in the house 5:33 Although the design of Kirby was so plain, the box art 100% represented the graphics in the classic Kirby games, which is why I put retro Kirby above retro Mario (black and white).
Anyone else remembers the "Rocks inside the box" thing that happened? If not, basically someone bought one of these and when they opened it, they just found rocks...
Despite going from a GBA SP to DS and then 3DS, I think I have the most memories with my 3DS since I had a diverse amount of games plus internet access. Sadly, all of my original consoles suffered less than desired fates, my SP still works but the audio glitches out, my DS got decapitated in half so it's like a Gameboy micro, and my 3DS had one of the hinges break but duct tape managed to keep it together for years then the top screen randomly got inverted a few years ago. I definitely wouldn't mind getting a modded new 3ds since there's a lot of games I never got to play but the prices for these consoles aren't so good.
As a matter of fact Scott, yes. Normal sized gloves hurt unless theyre stretchy. I know this because the gloves provided by walmart for freezer work are not stretchy
I got the 3DS XL after I had left my DSI in a box with some bubbles that had spilled over it. The circle pad snapped off but she still works fine to this day!
I remember my launch 3DS's start/select/home getting kinda punchy through the surface, the L/R buttons needing repair, the LED showing funky colors, and finally the circle pad being worn down to the plastic that actually slices your fingers. I was glad I held out until the New XL, but sweet jesus that thing did not age well lol
The 3DS XL was the first 3DS I ever got so maybe there's some nostalgia to it, but the stylus placement is absolutely golden, and the stylus itself isn't short like a toothpick lol. And that SD card slot, gotta love it.
I had a wii in the house before this, but this was the first console i got that was MINE. I remember my dad pulling it from the top shelf of his closet on my birthday, and i was only like 5 so i didn't know about it, but i knew i liked nintendo because of my wii. It was the red and white mario version with the coins, he told me he got it specially from mexico 😂. I still have it, and I've since modded it (dont tell the ninjas). As a console, it's become my personal favorite.
My favorite system to 🏴☠️ You can extract the SD card easily instead of building a scaffolding around the New 3DS XL and dig 7 feet under just to get the card out.
The OG 3DS stylus has my favorite placement bc I'm left handed (except for one time i was fidgeting with it and clicked the cartridge out of the slot during a game)
Had the original 3DS then got the XL loved that until I got the new 3DS with the faceplates and liked that one the most. It was the perfect sweet spot of screen size, console size, and feel and I never went back. No matter the model the 3DS/2DS was a banger of a system!
Got a shiny blue 3ds xl for christmas one year, I wanted it instead of a tablet, I loved that thing. Then I sold it when I got a tablet because I thought it was pointless to have both. I was not a very smart child.
The New 3DS XL is my favorite of the 3DS models in terms of functionality and ergonomics. It feels more comfortable for me to hold and play on compared to the regular sized models.
