I’m surprised and impressed how well they integrated the LiDAR and camera setup into the roof, as well as the side of the car. You see it, but it’s not offensive.

Mostly because putting it up there would give the LiDAR a better view. But still, imagine putting the LiDAR on the bumper and scratch it... Insurance company would hate this car.

Long time watcher (since the BYD Han review), first time commenter. I've always been utterly fascinated with the Chinese car industry, cars that my country doesn't get in general, but especially China-only cars. As for this NIO in particular, I'm interested. The price point is a bit steep, around Audi and BMW territory, but I think this can fare fine in the EU market, considering how well the recent SAIC-made MGs are holding up (like the MG4, MG5 and MG Marvel R). The exterior has to be a favorite of mine. One thing I have to give the Chinese car market is that day in and day out the styling is always nigh impeccable. Feels futuristic yet modern, complex yet easy to follow. The ES7 is no different, and IMO, NIO has always had great styling, so I expect no different when more talk around the ES7 pops up next year. Also, fantastic review as always. Keep up the good work! If there was a car I wanted to see reviewed, I'd go for the VW Talagon. It feels like a car that would do pretty well over here yet it's never been considered.

NIO doesn't have brand recognition in the EU right now. For most of 2023, the company will spend most of that time making a name for itself in the EU. We will see how this car does in 2024.

No autonomous feature, shit / mediocre IVI systems giving no hopes on OTA, yet wanting to charge $ for every feature (aka MB's rear wheel steering) Even tesla has its own quality / lack of premium material & design for its price. @@loganzhou2549 The reasons IMO are 1. the incredible efficiency of Giga Shanghai; 2. hyper stiff competition from the local scene that even Tesla has to respect. When people are so out of options (especially after the IRA crippled Korean EV sales) that they begin to pit the Chevy Bolt against the Model Y...you know Tesla can command whatever premium they want. Not the case in China.

I am Chinese and live in China. But at this stage I still won't consider any electric car. Except for hybrid. With Tesla leading the way, many (arguably all) electric cars in China will be brought forward to market unfinished products and then upgraded OTA. These upgrades even include tweaks to the sport orientation of the mechanical suspension. I don't think this is a good thing. Maybe I'm getting old, 32 years old today. But at the hardware level, there is no denying that Chinese suppliers are very capable of integration and global design. On cars priced around C$30,000 or $30,000. There are very few styles of cars that even use aluminum chassis components. In the higher price range. For example, the Volvo XC90. it costs $83,000 CAD or around $60,000 USD. But the Geely Lynk&Co 09 with its identical chassis costs only 50,000 Canadian dollars or $36,000. And this price is still the price of the top configuration. Its configuration and chassis tuning is better than the current XC90.

@AllenHu Год назад
U are not old, just old school, I'm nearly 40 but I bought ET7 and ET5 for mywife in 2022, and had drived ET7 to Hainan, Tibet and western sichuan. I love FOTA so much because every month I got a new car experience, If Im not satisfied with something, I can give feedback, and NIO will adjust and upgrade the vehicle according to the feedback. That‘s way more better than u bought a car which must endure its flaw in coming few years.
@timh3365
@timh3365 Год назад
@@AllenHu The main point I want to make is. A car is a product that carries life. It is a good thing that its software system can be upgraded OTA. But this upgrade should not be used for the powertrain, driving system, chassis tuning and other important parts. These parts should be done before they sell the product. Even later upgrades should go to the store for a more reliable upgrade method, not OTA. Of course, with the progress of technology OTA will become mainstream sooner or later, I also admit this point. But at this stage, when the overall completion of many products I see in China is not high enough, they rush to bring the product to market and then tell customers that some features can be upgraded OTA. This approach I think is wrong. Consumers should not have to pay for products that are rushed to market. For those models you mentioned, I would not buy them in China. I prefer Geely's cars. I personally suggest you to check some more Chinese car websites, you can use the translation that comes with chrome to check it, it should help you a lot. Because it's only driven by Chinese policy that more and more people are forced to buy electric cars. Note my wording, they are forced to buy electric cars. Without policy restrictions and incentives, there would not be as many people buying EVs and abandoning traditional internal combustion engines.
@AllenHu
@AllenHu Год назад
@@timh3365 I think it's funny too use the words "force to". Maybe you are referring to Beijing and Shanghai. but if u have checked the market, u may find EV cars grow rapidly in all other province. U prefer Geely's zeeker 001? It is precisely because of OTA that 001 reversed the bad reviews from consumers. In this time, car just not a traffic tools, it's a travel entertainment center, that's why I think u are old school. in this part, traditional car companies such as bmw benz audi toyota are completely behind. the market price and sales data totally support my point. I can't imagine that i buy a car in 2022, and it's actually not much different from the car I bought ten years ago, yes, so I sold my BMW X5 and my wife's volvo, switch to NIO, it's perfect to me.
@timh3365
@timh3365 Год назад
@@AllenHu I'm not a fan of all electric cars right now. I don't like the 001 car . Again, I stress that the rapid growth of EV models is only due to policy reasons. You don't understand China's car management policy. There is also the fact that for traditional car companies they are actually very fast if they want to transition to pure electric. For example the Mercedes EQS and BMW i7. they have the ability to do so but they choose a more conservative approach. This approach may seem old-fashioned but I personally think it is a responsible performance for consumers. Also, Japanese cars misjudged electric cars when they were transitioning, they preferred the fuel cell segment. But this field is too aggressive. China just bet on electric cars to succeed. It was a bet that won so China is the biggest winner. My view on cars is more focused on chassis tuning, power matching, fuel consumption, etc. So I prefer hybrid cars, not pure electric cars. For a technical analysis of pure electric cars in China, I suggest you watch a Chinese channel. youtube is also available for instant translation, if you wish. Copy this Chinese paragraph in brackets to youtube and search for the models you follow, I think it will be more helpful for you. (38号车评中心)
