On this Dance Saturday, this is a seriously fun and sassy piece by Shirley, and these young dancers in late 1963 have got some fantastic mojo and moves.
I was 16 when this was on the Judy Garland Show around Christmas or New Years and my parents were watching. As a teenager I loved the song, but thought the dancers looked too old and the moves were spastic and corny. My parents thought they were wonderful! About a month or two later the British invasion would begin and we would be watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show! February 9,1964! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! 🇬🇧 ❤
Yep Bobby Banas was a well respected dancer /choreographer ...did loads of movies such as west side story, Mary poppins (as one of the chimney sweeps in the step in time number) and many more! He also apeared in a lot of stage musicals too such as Annie get your gun , brigadoon and kis me kate to name a few en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Banas
Great depth with analogy on this song and skit. There is a lot involved and Bobby Banas decided to fall in after one dancer didn`t show. Still shows the talent of these two front dancers.
You should check out the TAMI Show from 1964. Great performances by Stones, Chuck Berry, Supremes, Miracles Gerry and The Pacemakers and more! Lots of these silly dances, too.
Excellent commentary. This incredibly energetic dance routine perfectly compliments the song. I've watched this many times and it always gets me tapping and smiling.
Good song tho it's totally forgotten. Glad you reacted to it I'm listening to music over 60 years so I know practically most songs ever recorded. The NAME GAME by Shirley may peak viewers interest. A very good one hit wonder in 68 is Shame Shame by the Magic Lanterns. Appreciate if you would react to it.
Bobby Banas is the front dancer who choreographed the Nitty Gritty. Great dancer. Can't take my eyes off of him. The girl next to him looks too robotic for my taste.
