The Noisy Cricket blaster, from the movie Men in Black, has been on Bill's list to make for years! Resin 3D printing, molding and casting, electronics, and stellar metallic painting really bring this prop to life! Bill has spent years learning Fusion 360 to be able to make 3D models like this and would love to show you how! Check out our new course:

So cool to see, thanks! Always been such an iconic gun. I have builds of some replicas of the bigger guns on my channel if you ever want to take a look. The Series 4 Deatomizer and the Tri-Barrel. We used Spaz-Stix for the Deatomizer and it blends great with all the metal parts and the Tri-Barrel is metal plated.

WOW! So I was one of the lead Special FX prop artists who created these for the first Men In Black film! We made all of the hero guns and gadgets, including the Neuralizers, but the Noisy Cricket was always my favorite! This is sooooo much cleaner than the ones we made though, haha, we hand sculpted and machined all the parts and then had some of them cast in metal at a foundry, they were pretty crude! But they looked great on film! I recently posted a video on my channel all about how we created these props and showing my personal behind the scenes photos! Thought you might dig it! Awesome job! Cheers😄👍

Thanks for sharing, I've found your video and gonna watch it. Props for movies work on film, but some of the most iconic props are always rude : The Lament Configuration in Hellraiser is a dumb wood cube with some laser cut metal sheets all over, and the Arc Gun in District 9 is wood blocks painted white, so crude you can still see the wood grain under the paint... Hey, it's movie magic and this is why we do it. :)

Really lovely detailed build. If the grips are flat you could of just stuck them down and built a small wall around them and filled it with silicone. It would have used less expensive silicone and be easy to demould being open face without trapping air. The vids you both produce are just brill, so full of great ideas and innovation. You are always showing us new things to try and learn. Thanks.

Great work!!!!!! What a fun gun to build. Modeling sci-fi gun props has become a bit of an obsession for me recently. It’s great to see how you went about chopping yours up for printing and assembly. Tippy tip, since you used translucent resin, you should be able to simply dab a bit of the same resin on two parts, assemble, then hit it with a UV lamp or flashlight for a few seconds to bond it, as if it were layer to layer. :) It doesn’t work well with opaque resins as the light doesn’t reach the center. (though now that I think of it… I guess you could just put it around the edges) Since we’re on the subject tip #2 You can use liquid resin instead of epoxy for filling in gaps, smoothing out parts, etc warm resin and resin thinned with a bit of IPA works wonders. Makes your stuff glossy smooth too.

For things like cutting the steel rod, or anything else that has a tendency to go flying when cut, grab a large ziplock andmake the actual cut with it inside the bag. Bag's transparent so you can see what you're doing, and it catches the parts. Another, potential, improvement for a future revision of the design might be to link the switch to the hammer, which would add a bit of fun there when using it in functionality

Interesting choice for a registration pin , something that is a PIA to cut requires more prep work than needed for a registration pin. Id use 1.75 filament or a toothpick or almost anything else that someone would have laying around the shop. Apart from that its a nice design I plan on printing this for my collection.

Interesting fact about the 'fake banana' flavor. It is actually not that it is a fake taste, it is just that it is based on a type of banana that no longer exist. The Gros Michels banana, which was larger and more flavorful was wiped out by a fungus. The bananas we eat today are of the Cavendish variety which happens to be resistant to the fungus that wiped out the Grow Michels banana. I know this is totally unrelated but I just learned bout this recently and figured I would share...
