Nice to hear your journey into art and how hard you worked to do what you love to do. And how cool it is that you were able to bring two art forms together (video & art). You're an amazing artist, thank you for sharing it with the world! Can't wait to see what you have to share next. Please don't forget us in Alabama (check your email).
Just to mention the audience out there in the YT universe which includes every wannabe, ammature, passionate artist who live their lives through art and or documenting their artistic struggles: You and your kind inspire us every waking moment. The thirst and drive to create is strong and you embody the very essence of the enthusiasm we all have for this most noble of crafts. Creativity is what makes the world go around and makes us super happy. I am a 75 year old retired nurse / midwife who dabbled with the idea of an artistic life after high school and my Dad would have paid for me to go to college to train. However, nursing was the more practical choice which has been rewarding in other ways. Thankyou for the glimpses of your life on my little iPad. Art was my road less travelled. Onward and upward KIPTOE.
I'm an 18 year old artist in Virginia. I've only been selling art for 3 years. I was listening to this while sketching and I love to watch Kiptoe, as well as you, Slew, and I really want to be a muralist. When Kiptoe said he went to Richmond to see his favorite mural it was both shocking and inspiring to me. I was just thinking like, "I live like an hour away from Richmond. That's crazy." It might sound dumb, but sometimes I think because I'm not from NYC or LA and I most likely won't move there, my art won't grow that much. However, when I hear someone I watch or listen to was from VA, or came to VA to see art, it gives me a little boost in inspiration.
Man art needs this podcast. This really helped me with a lot of my artistic anxiety I get with approaching projects and even presenting work. Your podcast reminded me my fears are healthy and normal. Thanks for this Slew. Btw Im from E.N.Y Brooklyn, and seeing so much culture exploding here, it deserves a good platform and you show a lot of love to BK, please keep doing what you do.
30:36 ✌ giant green bunny ears Love hearing this. KIPTOE is magical, as far as i'm concerned.. so in tune with aesthetic beauty, so good at editing his videos, so humble and real, amusingly funny, and handsome too! It brings me joy to watch his work expand. I'm always so impressed.
I've been saying for many years now what you two were talking about with the scaling of small details (fingernails). I always say to people, when they ask me about painting large-scale pieces, "The larger the canvas, the bigger you can make the smallest details."
SLEW, you are a great interview because you are so down-to-Earth and kind. It’s refreshing to see as you show such interest and praise to Kiptoe. I agree, his art is awesome
This is awesome. I didn't realise Kiptoe went to UMass Dartmouth also. Now I gotta go see his piece in Olniville. Wonder if his art teacher mentor was Dr Memory Holloway...
Showcase more of your guest artists' work while you interview, in fact, most of your interview should be that, only cutting back to both you and your subject once and awhile. Kiptoe is a prolific muralist with a massive portfolio. It didn't come across.
