Swami starts the discussion with some points from Ashtavakra Samhita. Right now, we
are all Brahman or consciousness. It is not like, we realize this fact, when we go to a place or we realize that after few years. But right now, right here we are that non-dual self Brahman

ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
ABOUT VEDANTA NY
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

"Sky and clouds" example and "Surface of ocean gets affected by the clouds and the (same ocean's) water at the depth of the ocean remains calm (untouched)", these two example explains everything... I have managed to settled my mind at that depth, I am free, I am untouched, I am happy....believe me guys... ... :) It feels like It took me births to understand this nature of mine, but this time I knew it already.

Thank you Swamiji for all your inspiring and motivational lectures on vedanta. I have been associated with satsang and some sort of spiritual practice since I was a child. My aim is to attain self realization but the thought that I am not this body and I am always free. The pain and pleasure is to the body which is false, so let it be there. This thought confuses me as to why one should attain self realization, because the truth is truth whether I experience it or not. This prevents me from going further in this path. So please help me in this regard.

If you now accept that you are not the body nor the mind, than I recommend to investigate into who you realy are! Don't say that you are consciousness or the witness just because you have heard it in some teaching. What you are you should be able to be and experience it for yourself , or not? So enquire, who are you? Meditate on that! 😘

Many excellent explanations...slight critique would be to add a few more examples, explanations & most importantly techniques to practice so that the complete novice could follow along perfectly...none the less very impressesd! Somethings are put into words here better than I have strived to do myself....yes, nearly all of the wordless realms can be put properly into the corrects words....that is the nature of word creation, usage & sound logic....the challenge remains to do just that...thanks for these words! 🙏

If we have awareness now through this form, through this manifestation, or wave, and we know we are Brahman, then this form dies and we are still ultimately that, but without the realisation, then why does it matter that we know we are Brahman now? That never changes. We become infinite, or we realise we are, but that is not an experience. I can know I am the sky or a rock, or I was an ancient farmer, or will be an engineer in the future, but if it’s not realised in those forms then being the pure awareness doesn’t seem to matter. You may not attach then to the suffering of the world, but then there is nothing to be attained. Why does anything matter after knowing you are Brahman?

Swamiji speaks on Sankara advaita ( include illusion ). Swami vivekananda's advaita is not exactly of Sankara. Complete works clearly state that maya is real and Bhakti is only means of mukti. Vivekananda's advaita is middle path of Sankara advaita and madhva dwaita. Advaita is highest . Is this Brahman an attributeless or with attributes as maya? Vivekananda accepts maya as real and inseparable with Brahman. Not just only jnana as Sankara says.

After the death of the body, the subtle body is supposed to take another body. This implies that the subtle body does not die. Then what happens to the subtle body of the person who has attained self realization, after the death of the body.
@duttakunal82
@duttakunal82 6 лет назад
Exactly! According to Indian philosophies, the dissolution of the sukshma sharira or subtle body is final freedom, Moksha. No trace of individuality is retained then. So if ordinary ones attain the non-dual consciousness while living, the physical body also cannot be retained. The body just falls off after 21 days, apparently. Most people who attain Moksha, do so at the moment just before death (or after). Avataras and other great souls are able to retain some individuality even during Samadhi, by means of desires (e.g. doing good to the world, or even simple desires like, "i'll drink some water"). This is why they are able to return from Samadhi and live on for a while - instructing, teaching, etc. In fact Avataras continue to retain their subtle bodies even after death, in similar fashion. Some say, Avataras survive even the death of the universe.
@kanhucharanswain3658
@kanhucharanswain3658 6 лет назад
kd2013 . Would it not be logical if a person attaining moksha, i.e, knowing the absolute truth, continues to live unaffected by Maya till the death of the body, helps others in attaining moksha, take different births again even after being enlightened for the sake of others.
@duttakunal82
@duttakunal82 6 лет назад
Thanks for your questions! I too used to read and think on similar lines a lot! Firstly, I assume by "logical" you mean "nicer", because observations cannot be changed to fit logic / theory, rather theory must fit observations. Given this, what you are saying, actually holds in the case of Avataras, Siddhas etc. - free souls that are able to retain individuality and take birth or at least give vision and guidance to seekers from time to time. Ordinary souls, according to Swami Vivekananda (and Indian traditions in general) - attain to the state of Naada after immense practice, and their effort and momentum makes them plunge into Nirvikalpa Samadhi without retaining any desire whatsoever. The feeling of "I'll take birth again and again to help others" - is so high, we have very little understanding how high, because we don't understand the tremendous sacrifice these great souls went through in choosing to be born. Actually, I too think like you mention, many times. In the lives of some great Swamis of the RK Order, I was reading that one of them once told his assistant, "you see, by the Grace of the Mother, I shall not have to be born again", i.e. he had attained the Absolute, but in the life of another swami, when a junior monk asked him, "Maharaj, shall I attain Moksha in this very life?", he at looked him and replied, "yes, you shall attain Moksha, but I shall.. come back to do Thakur-Swamiji's work (i.e. serving humanity) again." Now, who am I to judge and say that one of these two was greater than the other? I try not to think about such questions right now - I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.
