The Nordic Fiddlers Bloc - Polska From Delsbo Olav Luksengård Mjelva, Kevin Hendersson, Anders Hall www.thenordicfiddlersbloc.com Filmed and edited by Petter Berndalen
Love this band. I have their CD and one may think that an entire CD with nothing but three fiddles would be a bit boring in the long run, but far from it - they make it sound so rich and colourful and varied. Awesome talents.
I understand it feels nice to brand everything from the Northern countries as "viking". But I would say that this polska, more interestingly, rather share a lot of common ground with the popular music in all of northern Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries.
This is actually not a normal violin, but a hardangerfiddle, the national instrument of Norway. It bascially is a violin, but it's usually played and tuned differently and has additional resonance strings. Hardangerfiddles very often have decorations like you can see here. I cannot tell you who made this one, though.
