This is a really great explanation video. I work at North Face and I've had customers asking me about our products, especially the backpacks. Watching this video gave me a TON of information that I can use on the floor. Thank you very much!
"It has a hydration hook up, so you can turn it into a hiking backpack" THANK you for showing that, because I have not seen that in any pictures/short video's yet and that is very useful info to have.
Thank you for watching the video! A smaller Borealis around the 15-20 liter range would be great. The North Face does offer the Borealis Mini but it’s tiny 😩
I have both and I honestly prefer Jester. It’s more comfortable, looks better, better accessibility, more comfortable top handle. The only positive of Borealis for me is separate laptop compartment. Also when I put a wet umbrella in Borealis side pocket, it leaked into the main compartment, it didn’t happen with Jester.
Thanks for sharing your experience with both bags. It’s good to know about the leaking issue with the Borealis' side pocket, and sorry to hear that happened to you. This is going to be helpful for anyone trying to decide between the two.
My jester from 2019 is a tank. Fell off an electric longboard @ 30mph saved my back and shoulders from a world of hurt. It’s nothing like this model tho so be cautious. Quality has gone down over the years and big brands aren’t what they use to be just a few short years ago.
i've had the older model jester for 6 years now which has basically the same specs with a slightly different look. it got me through highschool years and college years. It has been across the country from Maine to Wyoming to Oregon to Alaska. I've brought it on trips to class and rough Alaskan hiking trips. I would recommend getting the jester for sheer lightweight versatility as it not only looks sleaker than the borealis but is also more versatile and lighter. If you are on the fence of which one to get I hope this sways you into making the right choice and choosing the jester. I wish you too will share many memories with your back and may it take you far along on your journey as it did with mine.
I fell like this whole video is hating on the Jester backpack when like actually compared to my lululemon back pack its grat quality and it can fit so much stuff.
I like design of TNF Borealis and it's quality however one major design flaw stops me from purchasing it. Two main compartments have cotton tape zipper pullers you still can attach a backpack lock to it. However it can be easily cut with scissors. Suppose that you are going on metro or bus on a busy overcrowded day, such cotton tape zipper pullers would be an easy target for a thieves, they could with out efforts cut those zip pullers and get access to your staff. The Jester, Surge have same problem. The TNF Hot Shot, Borealis Classic have conventional metal zipper pullers, you can easily attach a backpack lock. Cutting them requires more bigger tools and needs more time and of course it would increase attention from surrounding people. So thieves would just avoid such bag. But TNF Hot Shot, Borealis Classic is made with lower quality materials they looks quite cheap and misses FlexVent technology. I do not like their design. I would definitely would not feel relaxed with TNF Borealis when going on overcrowded days on metro or buses as with such insecure zipper pullers I would be an easy target for thieves. Very sad that TNF spoiled such great cool looking bag with such poorly made zipper pullers.
i hate the borealis backpack. i used it for school and i don' usually bring much, just mt backpack and some notebooks that makes it not stand. it always falls, and one of the straps broke a few months in.
Why are you hating on the jester?? Like the other one looks like an egg like it more masculine and the jester is more feminine and I just need a high school backpack not for a hiking trip
ik im super late to commenting, but ive been going back n forth abt which backpack I should buy. I’m in hs (if that’s useful info) and want to have enough room. I don’t have all of my classes every single day, so I like the jester (esp the j. luxe colors) but some extra room with the borealis can’t hurt. if u see this, help me please! 😭🙏
Is borealis much bigger than jester? Which one would be better for collage - taking tablet, laptop sometimes, water bottle and some note stuff? I have already use old tnf vault backpack and this is great, but it's times comes and i just wanted to buy another one, but it isn't already on sale :(
Is the jester good for carrying a lot of school materials like notebooks and binders? Does the Jester feel heavy on the shoulders after putting stuff in it?
The Jester weighs 1lb 10oz when empty (or 1lb 8oz for the women's Jester). How heavy it gets really depends on how much you pack it. The main compartment is large enough for multiple notebooks and binders so you should be fine there. Hope this helps!
would a 16" laptop fit in the women's borealis backpack? I'm really interested in getting the borealis but I'm not sure if my laptop will fit! I hope someone can help me on this
I’m 5’4” and feel the Borealis women’s looks huuuuge on me! I ordered a Jester and a Borealis in black and plan to decide after checking them out side by side. I wish NF made a slightly smaller Borealis though.
Good video. I have two questions: 1. Would a 15.6" Laptop fit in the Jester backpack, for men? 2. What do you suggest for a person of smaller size such as 1.60m, the Jester or Borealis backpack? (Do I think the Jester backpack would be better?). Thank’s
Hello! The laptop sleeve in the men's Jester measures 12.75'' x 11'' (32.4 cm x 27.9 cm). We recommend measuring your laptop to see if it can fit the dimensions. As for size, the Jester is smaller (less height from top to bottom) and might be the more comfortable of the two. Hope this helps!
Jester is what you need for a day or two day trip.. Be it a city trip or two days in the hills.. It costed me 150 AUD...at the north face store and they threw a camelbak bottle for free..
@@Mujioak Ended up getting the Borealis instead of the Jester and it's SO WORTH IT!! So much more space and will definitely last me a lonnnnnnggg time!
@@themillieharper44 i am having the same decision problem about getting the jester or borealis i think i will get the borealis but do you have any regrets buying it instead of jester?
Either will be fine! But the Borealis has a waist belt and compression straps. Those extra features do help with weight distribution when the bag starts to get heavy.
For traveling which one should I buy? Bringing my iPad, portable charger, water bottle, sunglasses and some food. I want to be comfortable on my trip. Thanks
Either will do! You'll be able to pack more with the Borealis but if you are traveling by plane, the Jester is lighter and squishy so you'll be able to better stuff it underneath an airplane seat.
Hi! The women's Borealis will fit you just fine. Just make sure to snug up the shoulder straps so that the backpack lies higher up on your back, this allows the lumbar support on the back panel to hit where it's supposed to. If you're looking for a smaller bag in the same style, you might want to check out the women's 22L Jester. It has a shorter length, which might be perfect for you!
It will fit most 15 inches laptops but not sure about 16 inches. The laptop compartment dimensions on the women's Borealis are 12.5'' x 11'' you can measure your laptop to see if it will fit.
The vid is very helpful. Now it's clear that the Jester is a budget back pack , made from cheaper materials and has a lot of features missing that is important for me.
Thank you for watching! Both backpacks have a DWR water repellent coating on the fabric, but neither have water resistant zippers or stitching, so they have about the same level of water resistance. They are okay in light rain for 10-15 minutes but could be trouble in wetter conditions. Unfortunately, this is the case for most North Face backpacks.
its crazy because i got a VAULT online from Macys back in 2020 for $45 and it came with YKK zips, chest strap whistle, a tablet pocket behind the zip in the admin compartment AND relatively tall water bottle side pockets. Lowkey this is the only Vault model I've ever considered becuse it had water bottle pockets unlike Vaults before this one. Now the new vaults don't even have YKK zippers. Theyre so bad, I would never consider it anymore smh and neither will I consider a jester as well
