I picked up another new tent for this upcoming spring, summer and fall seasons. This one I will be using for Kayak camping, backpacking and if all goes to plan a bikepacking trip or 2.
Come join me as I open up & Set up The North Face Storm Break 2 for the very first time. I will also share my first impressions of this tent.

I have this same tent and I love it. Use it on easy to moderate backpacking trips and car camping. Anything more strenuous and I’d opt for a lighter option. I watched your review before pulling the trigger on the Stormbreak 2 and now it’s my favorite tent. I enjoy your energy you bring to your videos, and accent! Thanks Todd

Nice tent. I am looking at this as a short hike two man tent. Though not a deal breaker, it would have been nice for them to include a sack for the poles so weight can be split between hikers. However, it would be nothing to improvise or sew one yourself. I wonder what the divided weight would be....say, one carries the tent and one carries the poles, fly and groundsheet.? Good review. Subbed.
@OutdoorsWithToddP

Good review Todd. I saw this tent in an Outdoor shop here in Scotland about a week ago and really liked the look of it. So I was looking for a good review of it. Cheers for the review. I have an older North Face VE25 but it's FAR too heavy for backpacking unless you were sharing the weight between 3 people or had a pack mule to carry it for you lol 😂

Thank you for the amazing video, only two questions... What is the brand of pants and/or shirt you have and are they good for hiking/cold conditions, also how is the tent in cold and rainy conditions? Is there anyway that you can send me a list of things I should have on a backpacking trip and what you prefer because I am going on my first trip next week. Thanks again!

The pants are from Born Primitive and they sell outdoor pants for lighter conditions and ones that are very warm. Highly recommended. Used the tent this fall in wet, rainy and cold weather and it was great. I think it was down to -6 on that trip. I will get back to you later today on your other question.

Okay my friend lets do this. LOL. I'm just going to list the gear I would take right now if I were planning a trip this weekend. Backpack, Tent, sleeping bag, inflatable pillow(Or to save weight toss your extra clothing into your tent bag or sleeping bags bag) & sleeping pad. Gas stove such as a MSR Pocket Rocket or Jetboil Mighty Mo with 2 gas Cannisters(227G). Cheap lighter and a Ferro rod. Small folding saw(Bahco Laplander). Extra Socks and baselayers only to be used when heading to bed. Nothing beats having fresh and dry socks & baselayers to change into right before bed. These can be stored into a large zip lock bag to keep dry if your are in wet conditions. Camp booties and a toque. Headlamp, first aid kit and a 1.5L smart water bottle. Can be re-used to hold water after you filter or boil it(let cool down first). Use a Nalgene bottle if its colder because you can place boiling water in it and place it inside your clothing or sleeping bag if it gets to cold. Toiletries and food. Dehydrated meals are the easiest and lightest. Energy bars and trail mix. Fork & Knife. Gloves for work and gloves for warmth. Depending on the temps.

I don't think I would go any lower then -10 with this tent. That is of course if you are using a good sleep system(sleeping bag(s), sleeping pads etc etc). I have used it down to -5 while using only a foam pad and a -17 rated sleeping bag & I stayed warm all night. The tent fly does keep you fairly protected from the wind other then a few inches from the ground where wind and cold air can get in. Hope this helps you out & thank you for commenting. Thanks for this review. It's the best one I've seen for the Stormbreak tent. I've been considering this one (the 3 person version) for solo car camping travel. I currently have a Timberline 4 which is fine, but I'd like a dome shape and easier-to-open doors that don't require reaching down into the corner where two zippers meet. I don't know if I want to give up the height of the Timberline, although I have to crouch anyway. I think the ability to use a rainfly panel as an awning is a great feature. At first, I was put off by the yellow mesh. What are your thoughts on that? Does it feel weird to look out through yellow? Does it attract bugs?
@OutdoorsWithToddP
@OutdoorsWithToddP Год назад
First off thank you so much for the kind words I really appreciate it. I don’t have to many issues with the yellow mesh, easy to look out and I don’t think it adds to attracting bugs. It also appears almost clear when looking out. Easy on the eyes.

The sweet spot for playback seems to be about 0.75 speed. I've considered this tent, but even the minimum weight is just too much for backpacking. That said, I have three tents right now that I'm looking to sell. Maybe this would be a good car camping one, while another could be the backpacking one.

Sorry to @leif Andersson I accidentally removed your comment while trying to edit my reply. You asked how was the ventilation due to there being no vents in the fly. Here is my reply. TarsandSerpents 0 seconds ago There is some ventilation that comes via the bottom of the fly. When I used it last during temps that ranged between +3 to 5 I did notice just a small amount of condensation on the fly but it didn’t affect the body of the tent. But this was only on the 3rd night when it rained most of the night
@pirateradioFPV
@pirateradioFPV Год назад
I got mine for bikepacking. Replaced the pegs instantly, they're not that expensive and you can use them on all of your tents. The size of the tent makes it very liveable on the bike, the dual vestibules allow you to bring the bags "in" to keep them protected from the elements. In a hot climate you can sleep in it without the fly, the mesh starts high enough so the wind breeze doesn't freeze you over the night. For my use case it ticks all the right boxes, the weight is low enough on the bike too. For UL hikers nothing is light enough ofc but they're probably looking for different stuff anyways.
@OutdoorsWithToddP

Yeah this tent would be awesome while bikepacking. I like light tents but being comfortable and not feeling confined is also very important. Thanks for the great comment. Much appreciated.
