Colonial Beach's beaches do get busy during the summer months. They do have an awesome fireworks show for July 4th. I haven't found any shark's teeth at Stratford Hall but I did find some at Westmoreland State Park.
So much history here i work in king geogre area my father has worked reedville fish factory his entire life nice to see outsiders seeing all the richness here that we tend to just look over living here so long 😅
Thanks for watching. The Northern Neck is full of history and beauty, and we appreciate how the people there are a part of that history and help to preserve it for all of us to enjoy.
I have lived here for about half of my life, I am 40. I live in Heathsville (close to the farm museum) and spent many years in Ophelia, not far from Reedville. I was a paramedic in Northumberland, Westmoreland, and Essex. My mother's side of the family dates back to the 1600s. Ancestors include a Menhaden fishing boat captain, a keeper of the Smith Point Light, and the bricklayer of The Gables in Reedville. The Coca-Cola building was mostly known for our signature beverage, Northern Neck Gingerale. It was sold in many places outside of the NNK, very distinct bold flavor that has not been matched. It's a beautiful place but living here can be a bit tough for some folks. I had a taste of Richmond for a few years, back here again. I miss the divirsity that the city provided.
Thanks for watching. And thanks for all of the info - your lineage is definitely in the Northern Neck. We hadn't heard of the ginger ale, that's interesting.
My grandparents owned the property next to the bridge. In fact the property you shot the bridge used to be theirs also. They sold it so a ferry could be where you were standing then in the late 40s, they sold more property so the bridge could be built. I got to spend a very large amount of my 35 years growing up there on the farm and playing up and down the river and crabbing.
The kitchens where also located away from the home to reduce the chance of a fire. I moved from NH to VA over 20 years ago and have never regretted it once !
We were there about two weeks, but also spent the weekends visiting with family in the area, plus a day out at Washington DC. You're right, there is a lot to see and do. Thanks for watching!
Great video, wonderful. One of the things you missed (but you can't cover it all in 25 minutes!) was focusing on Kilmarnock itself, just a charming town. Here is a merry Christmas wish to you guys from the Northern Neck! Hope you enjoy the Christmas tune dedicated to the area. Will look forward to future videos as we are avid RV'ers! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-90Sv7Cwm0Zk.html
