You really can't get more early 2010s than someone trying to emulate the Nostalgia Critic while singing a My Little Pony song but making it about gaming.
I don't know if this is a sign from God himself, but today a new SpongeBob episode featured Bubble Bass as a Nostalgia Critic clone. Doug Walker's influence has spread to television now. Nowhere is safe.
While that is insane, it isn't too surprising either since it's not like the people in charge of SpongeBob aren't aware of what's going on on the internet. Member the Red Mist easter egg?
Dogseatingdogs6 is what happens when the “oh no, it’s my evil twin from the 5th dimension” schtick that reviewers have gets SO far gone that the actual review is buried under nonsense.
Honestly this guy reminds me of all those anti-Deviantart weirdos and i dont mean the people calling out weird shit (the predators, the fetishes, the bigotry, etc), im specifically referring to the people harassing children (especially neurodivergent kids) for making fanart of their favorite media. I do see the MrEnter comparisons, but I also see Leafy too because of... well you know.
To be fair, I like how the guy with the wolf puppet does its voice in post as opposed to doing actual ventriloquism so it looks more like it's alive/talking. It's tiny details like that, even for something that has very little value (if any), gives it a sense of charm to it all.
After the reveal that the Game Atlas theme song was ripped off of My Little Pony, I thought to myself "Wow, it was a mistake putting this guy first in the video. There's no way it could get worse than this" Then the Mario RPG weirdo pops up and completely blows him out of the water in basically every regard. It's astounding, really.
Artist and voice of the 'anime girl' in the Gimmick Reviewers section here! Just wanted to say this was an awesome video to watch! NC definitely left its mark on a lot of viewers who thought they could give it a shot, and we were definitely one of them. XD Keep up the awesome work, love the editting and jokes!
@@MrGameguyC I wonder how he and @HikzriYuushi are doing nowadays but that’s still cool to hear it’s still up tho, I really love watching these a lot as a kid
@@Mr.GamerDude69 Long story short, our schedules got busy. We're two online friends who just did this in our spare time cause we thought it'd be cool and fun. XD We never really thought it would go anywhere, but every blue moon we get people that pop up and say they recognize it! So, still totally worth it, lol. XD
The fact that DogsEatingDogs6 thought K Rool was a bowser knock off is really absurd lol. Forget all the yelling at children, this guy is mentally unwell
It seems Chris only does IG once out of a blue moon these days. I guess his priorities now lie with Puppet Steve and other misc. jobs to provide for his own family.
The main thing I learned from this is that SomecallmeJohnny may be one of the most solid, bulletproof video content makers on the Internet. He's been on here for like 20 years & never heard a single bad thing about him, it's nuts.
Dude is just genuinely chill even when i was a kid who usually would whatch these angry reviewes like nostalgia critic and avgn i really enjoyed the simple but entertaining style of johnnys videos i might have to whatch him again just out of curiosity
Watching MagicMush is like slowly uncovering a lost civilization that I was to young to be a part of. Knowing the big names is one thing, but immersing yourself in the impact they had at their time is something else.
honestly this is what i feel like, i found linkara thru his history of power rangers series and then got shot headfirst into the lore of channel awesome lmao
Yeah, these things where happening when I was a little kid. But I couldn't get to this part of the web because my parents put parental controls on my Windows XP before I got my first laptop. Man, MagicMush is an internet archeologist.
I remember watching a lot of people on TGWTG, or rather, trying to. Many of these were unbearable or had very bad setups or rancid/ice cold takes. I did really like Brows Held High who was basically trying to do the video essay thing years before uploading more than 10 minutes on youtube was possible, and his "review" of "Blue" really made an impact on me. I was like "jeez i wish more people would simply talk calmly about cool stuff". I wasnt even aware there were site guidelines that people have to be NC knock offs but it sure makes sense to me now lol
As someone who was there for a lot of this stuff, it's nice to see someone cover it without moralizing and talking about how horrible everything was back then like a lot of other, similar channels.
@@AFOOp-u8f False fact. I was kicked out for, and I quote, "pushing my libertarian agenda" and "having depression". Price I pay for trying to help these wackos
@@AFOOp-u8f And yet, here we are. I'm better without the stress they caused, to be honest. Happy to sit back and watch them fall now they've kicked out their last sane voice.
That rabbit puppet show looked really well done. It broke my heart to see he never got to 1500 subscribers. Some talented people fall through the cracks and some people get lucky when they really don't deserve it. Hope the guy behind it is doing alright for himself
That guy probably got busy doing some kind of regular paid work behind the scenes in TV or online content production. Those kinds of channels are usually side projects by guys that are already working industry professionals at some level, as a means of sharpening their skills on their own time and building a portfolio.
from what i saw from a cursory glance, he just sort of became a proto political youtuber, with the added bonus of being a weed head ontop of just being angry at everything. Most of his videos after a certain point only got, like, 500 views and that was his channel's front-page video. I assume he just quit after seeing that he wasn't really successful after 13 years.
I sat through that 2 hour video of Dogdeatingdogs6 yelling at children and genuinely thought that the kids asked him to make a rant video about them as a present or something. It wasn't until another youtuber made a video about it and the man himself went into the comments apologising for his actions that it finally dawned on me that he was actually seriously abusing a few kids for picking on his shitty videos. Blew my mind when I realised it.
The sad thing is that this dude has semi-competent editing skills while not perfect if he didn't waste his time making 2 hour long vids screaming at kids for playing with some plushies he could get a decent job
Its sad that he lost his job at disney cause people sent choice clips of his Game Grumps rip off show (He tried to recreate that jon era of Game Grumps)
Fun Fact I just realized about DogsEatingDogs6 talking about the villain from Turbo, That criticism he made up isn't even original and is instead copy and pasted from Schaffrillas' Dreamworks ranking video
So… from what I’ve seen of him and his “Super Origami Kingdom”, he’s an egotistical plagiarist with “Black and White Insanity” who may or may not be schizophrenic?
That’s not even close to some of the most heinous pranks 4Chan has pulled on unsuspecting people on the Internet, bruh. Now granted, some of them were quite annoying such as the girl whose dad gave us the origin of the meme “Consequences will never be the same!”, but really now, did they have to take it to such an extreme when it came to pulling one over on them?
@@Jolis_Parsec Yeah I guess you're right. Half the shit Chris Chan was subjected to would be the worst moment of anyone's life, but that is such a bizarre case that it's difficult to even fathom.
@@yggdrasil2chris chan is one of the more known cases there is actually a popular thread of a 4channer who legit stole an ancient human skull from a museum You don't believe that? Yeah other 4channers thought this guy was full of bullshit too but he actually provided photos multiple of them in fact Someone asked him to put his wee wee in the skulls eye he didnt wanna do it at **first** imagine the possibility of you dying and like a million years later a 4channer puts his dick inside ur skull
I think my favourite part of the dogseatingdogs6 section is the yelling about all characters sounding almost the exact same. It's hilarious thinking how, as bad as you'd expect child voice acting to sound, at least it easily passes the bar of being comprehensible.
that turbo mini clip was literally word for word the EXACT same one found on schaffrillas' video when he ranked that movie the worst on dreamworks' catalogue 😭
Watching DogsEatingDogs6(a grown man) yelling at plush videos made by literal children while using either a Paper Mario or a Mario and Luigi character as his avater sometimes with a voice filter that makes him almost incomprehensible is one of the weirdest, funniest, cringiest, and most pathetic things I've ever seen on RU-vid. DogsEatingDogs6 is truly something special both in a good and bad way.
What gets me is that I used to be obsessed with Mario characters like him as a kid. He feels like a dark future of me where I never got past that stage of my life.
"ALL THE VOICES SOUND THE SAME!!" Yeah, no shit. Its just one kid playing with toys in front of a camera. Did he really expect them to hire VAs, understand editing, etc?
What I find utterly pathetic is that he says that he’s in love with Rosalina. I get liking the character, but to call her his true love really gives off some r/waifuism vibes.
The Gamer's Atlas may have been a Brony and the most Reddit looking man imaginable, but i couldn't help but feel admiration for the guy. He had a dream and a passion and tried to achieve that dream, he pretty much got it, maybe not through the path the path he wanted but in a path nonetheless.
Latza really did nothing wrong. Like he was cringe but that's all he was. People gave him so much shit but he just wanted to make internet videos. He was even ahead of a trend, reviewing board games.
The thing about nostalgia critic acting cartoony is he actually knows how to do it relatively well. He plays himself as the butt of the joke, his anger is always (INTENTIONALLY) absurd to the point where you can laugh at him. He literally took classes to learn how to act cartoonishly. He walks a very fine line and he's still entertaining to this day because he knows how to skirt that line. He also spaces it out, as MagicMush said around 16 mins in
He's also surprisingly good at deadpan humor. I feel like modern Nostalgia Critic would be funnier if Doug was the straight man in a cast of insane characters, but when the entire cast consists of over-the-top cartoony personalities, no one really stands out as unique.
The problem is he tries to mix in his legimate opinions and thoughts on the media he's reviewing, and it turns out as a weird mix of "ironic self deprecating comedy" and "genuinely trying to critique media despite not understanding it", so it's a weird mishmash often now, and his skits have gotten increasingly unfunny and drawn out. Dude is capable of a decent "absurd exaggerated buffoon" character but his stuff has become very obnoxious as time has gone on.
The Nostalgia Critic made a point that anyone could be a critic and then his following story and his clones showed how utterly complicated - to say the absolutely least - this statement is
There were a lot of great ones though, like pretty much everyone from Blistered Thumbs, Hidden Block, & Normal Boots. I guess people would want to call them AVGN clones, but it's all Reviewnertainmnet with scripts & recurring characters & lore & heavy editing.
maybe he ment it in like a ratatouille kinda way where not everyone can be a good critic but a good critic can come from anywhere.... Nah, this is nostalgia critic, I'm giving him way too much credit.
Even after all the controversies and issues, I still can't bring myself to hate Doug Walker. He certainly isn't for everyone, and when he fucks up, he fucks up hard, but I still respect him for the passion he puts into everything he does. He's also surprisingly great when it comes to analysis on art. Just watching his "Doug Reviews" and "Disneycember" videos, and you can see he has the potential to make genuinely thought-provoking content.
I don't hate Doug either, if you read all the stuff related to Change the Channel you can see Doug isn't a part of the biggest controversies I jus't can't stomach his newer stuff
Yeah, he's embarrassed himself, gotten into hot water and just refuses to let go of his skits/Demo Reel, so it makes sense why people have left him behind. Though I agree he's still not a bad critic + comedian and some of his entries in Fanscription are still pretty good. He's got new low-points, but still has high ones.
i always continue to come back to his commercial reviews. there's just a weird comfy cozy feeling about some 40 year old dude vibing in a i donut donuts t-shirt watching vintage commercials.
I wanted it to be on Channel Awesome so bad. I had an entire persona planned out: a surfer, Big Lebowski type who revisited failed TV shows. Wrote a whole script about M.A.N.T.I.S. and then my camera broke. I'm so glad I never recorded an episode.
Yeah, in a sea of caustic critics at the time, someone being more laid-back and talking/riffing about failed tv shows might have been a nice niche. Probably too ahead of the time to succeed, but totes redeemed now in the age of essay-like, calm and collected personas being way more the meta (unless your content is geared towards children ofc)@@NolanEgbert
I have grown out of NC and his many, many clones - but my god hearing about dogseatingdogs6 just from those clips sent me on a roller-coaster of emotions. He is truly one of the reviewers of all time.
I feel like once the Mr. Plinkett reviews dropped, the next influential wave came down completely washing away the nostalgia critic copycats, I guess you could say those are still going but you can't deny that the Plinkett review format is what's popular to this day, and it's the format that gave rise to video essays and feature-length movie reviews that are longer than the movie they're reviewing, and even then those are still better than the rise of pngtubers, most of whom probably don't even know it started with sequelitis.
This video made me realize why Deltarune's fountain sealing music sounds so familiar. It's the same guitar sample as the Nostalgia Critic's opening with him shooting a gun.
@@ochuspin Honestly? Same. Make him a secret boss like Jevil, give him some abilities that debuff your characters through criticism, and for his second phase, make him go ballistic like with the bat credit card.
Direct AVGN clones might have died off after the 2000s but that's only because comedic game reviewers switched to copying Jontron instead. Jon himself was very inspired by James, which is more apparent in his first few videos before he fully developed his weirder wackier style of humor.
As I said before in the AVGN Clone video, the late 2000s - mid-2010s was a wild time for the media reviewing scene. Two of my favorite channels that fall into this category are Cinema Snob and Brandon Tenold. Ones a bald man with glasses, and the other is a Canadian. Both are smartass movie critics that I enjoy watching.
Fuck yeah Brandon Tenold! Love the Snob, but I feel like Brandon's really underrated. Another underrated reviewer of that type I love is Decker Shado, the internet personality with the best hair! P.S. While I'm talking horror related/MST3K-style reviewers I cannot help but also give a shoutout to my favourite doctor Wolfula! (And his zombie servant Ghoulash, that fucking weirdo...)
I don't dislike everything Doug does nowadays, but totally agree with you: the first half of his career were amazingly entertaining. The little skits he did just sitting down was like if your friend-circle made jokes, but his editing visualized it. It's nothing like the full-blown musical, FX heavy skits heh as now with no jokes or actual ideas. A big disappointment, because the younger generations' encouragement is porbably why he has kept them up, but those echo chambers aren't reliable, man.
...he didnt. Some very offensive content he made was unearthed because of a video like this one and he got fired and blacklisted everywhere. He did a game grumps type of lets play, but being autistic he said _all_ the bad things. He pleaded online for people to stop, but Yeah.. no good ending here, sadly.
Knew that this was going to be a video filled with Critics Of Quality when the first dude looks like he's running a production of Hamilton at his local community theater. What's crazy to me is that I have literally never heard of any of these people compared to the AVGN copycats video. Mush really went on an internet safari for this one hahaha
dogseatingdogs6 is fucking amazing my favorite part is how he roleplays as other characters and dedicates to the bit enough to refer to himself in the third person
There is a special stage of cringe for people like dogseatingdogs6. That level where you remember something stupid you did as a kid and beat yourself up over it years later. Except this guy isn't a kid, and is completely invested into what he's doing. Honestly it's respectable in a way, save for harrassing people.
@@jadenbryant9283 He's certainly improved a lot. He doesn't have a stupid voice, his videos flow a lot better, the presentation has improved, and he overall doesn't feel like a blatant clone either.
@@UltraNintendoChalmers64 although he did use to make skits and actually did have Doug in his review watership down though he had an even lower budget and so only got Doug through a convention.
@@jadenbryant9283 Yeah, I'm aware of that. Still though, the review was certainly not just something done in the NC style either way. It certainly felt like he made more of an effort to forge his own identity.
Dogseatingdogs6 is really fascinating to me, its a shame he's not more well known. He's exactly like those old AVGN clones who never realized the Nerd was just a character and just pointing out flaws and getting angry alone wasn't what made him so good. It's like he's Mr. Enter (or other explosive cartoon reviewers) at his worst moments, but all the time.
Honestly it's for the best, DED6 doesn't get noticed (it's sad that he'll probably only be known for that Omni Kings rant) Also some old ppl that used to work with him left him
Now that this is a series, you should do a video about the let's play apocalypse of the 2010s. There are some incredible and weird let's play channels that have been forgotten and deserve some attention for just how deep some of this goes and how interconnected the entire industry was for a long time.
In TV Trash and Rowdy C's defense, he has a form of autism that makes his voice very loud. He's actually addressed this in his Top 10 Frak Ups video. So he might not have much control of it.
I swear, ded6 deserves his own video because the SOK rabbit hole is so absurd, insane, and laughable it’s hilarious Also apparently ded6 likes to simp for Rosalina, who’s a fictional women character (some of his other friends also have some other waifus, one of the “waifus” even being underaged)
@@innoc4063I know I’m late but I’m like 99% sure DED6 thinks her waifu is real and would make a whole essay if you say she doesn’t exist (apparently he’s also married with Rosalina or something idk). That, and the guy who’s waifu is underage ended up doing a child so this makes this whole comment even worse tbh
@@AFOOp-u8fYou’re right about DED6 treating Rosalina like she’s real, but the guy you’re thinking of with the underage waifu, TamatoaGamingDa, wasn’t “doing a child”, he was grooming a kid on Roblox and sending them inappropriate fetish art, from what I can gather. Still really bad, but he definitely never harmed anyone.
Bat Credit Card is, unironically, still hysterical. "You'll get the gas!" Still makes me laugh out loud. The man coming in off screen to hold Doug down. I still think that's genuinely funny.
i think all the early karma from doug ignoring lotsa and the trolls on 4chan basically set him up for life. for the record i spoke to a friend of mine who used worked at disney and they said once you leave you get a ton of offers from other places [EVEN NOW] even for low tier stuff, like editing. its insane and if you play your cards right you are set for life.
When I first saw DogEatingDogs' videos, I was like: “Wow, I didn't know Stewie had a reviewing career aside from being a musician” Btw, I can imagine this guy also probably being a lead singer for some heavy metal band nobody cares or knows about in the future also.
24:45 my friend, you are only scratched the surface that is fighting leaf. The dude has an entire tragic anime backstory that involves his father killing him,his family and how he met the wolf puppet named husky.
Dude, that's metal as fuck! Thanks for giving his name, 'cause I went back trying to find his name, but if MagicMush said it then I missed it completely. Edit: Spelling.
This video came out around the same time as the Patrick Star show episode "Bubble Bass reviews" which is a parody of the nostalgia critic and various cartoon rantsona critics. No I am not making this up, spongebob acknowledged the ranting community on youtube
I'm so happy the Latsa story ended nicely. Like, the skits looked terrible but you could hear how much fun he was having just by how he did his evil pirate laugh. Glad he's doing well with his career now.
I'm glad you covered DogsEatingDogs6 because he's a lunatic in every sense of the word, sometimes uncomfortably so with all the yelling at kids, and sometimes hilariously with how much he yells at Family Guy and King K. Rool.
@@No_Life_Alexto me, it backfired because Sammy was a kid, and he looked younger than he was, and so everyone assumed that he was serious about his outbursts when he wasn’t, which also screwed with his personal life.
It took a very long time, but I totally forgot about the infamous ... "review" of _The Wall_ and my life was happier. Then you brought it back to our attention. Thank you. I'll never forget it. ಠ_ಠ
What gets me about the part where DogsEatingDogs6 complains about the twist villain from Turbo, he rips off Schaffrillas Productions' review of the movie by comparing him to Paul Blart: Mall Cop's twist villain.
@@freakfoxvevo7915anything he’s ever said could just be copied homework. His top ten worst villains video is all over the place and includes the final boss of No More Heroes 2 near the end.
Their not really that similar though. Outside of being angry reviewers with guns I would say for the time Doug set himself apart from what we look back on and consider an Avgn clone
Nostalgia Critic ruined a generation of nerdy idiots, and the impact of his actions are still felt to this day. A Bat-Credit Card-shaped hole, in our minds and hearts, that refuses to be sealed...
It's kind of ironic that the The Nostalgia Critic has become, to me at least, itself a nostalgic bit of internet history. I remember me and a couple buddies from college talking about doing a show like it way back around 2010. It never got off the ground but, hey, we could have ended up on this video. Also, thanks for including my suggestion (The Lenny and Shinko Show, 25:41 ). It's always pleasantly surprising when RU-vidrs I watch include my input in their videos.
Honestly I stumbled across your channel at like 3am when I got off work and I'm not disappointed. You've easily become my favorite content creator due the flow and emotion you put into your commentary(Especially the Sonic related videos). Keep up the excellent work👍🏽
“James dresses like an office worker While Doug dresses like a professional” *proceeds to show footage of Doug with an untied tie* Fun fact: that tie is never EVER tied in any of the videos, even in the newer ones, Doug still doesn’t know how to tie a tie.
23:00 I was very relieved when you revealed you liked the bunny guy, because from what I saw of him in this video I kinda like him too. He has a great voice and the quality is about what i'm used to from puppet shows that were on CBBC
I remember those videos and they were legitimately quite enjoyable. The character was well presented and I was a bit disappointed when the guy making those videos decided to move on
I do recommend his newer stuff. He’s a lot more analytical than he used to be, and he is still often drop-dead hilarious with his jokes and bits of trivia.
After the old commentary video was done on Sour Apple, he quit the character and started a different channel under the name Jambareeqi, where he reviews things normally and without the NC style gimmicks. He still uploads regularly.
Mush you're lowkey an internet deepdiver and all here for it! I'm also surprised this one didn't show up any criminals or offenders, what a wholesome ending.
Latza is low-key inspiring. In fact in a way I'd say most of these guys are kinda inspiring, a lot of people who complain on things online just puts in the absolute minimum of effort.
I think that, in a way, the rise (and fall) of Channel Awesome kind of obscured the roots of most of this kind of content - people having fun making review videos and throwing their self-awareness out the window.
Oh hey, I know of the DogsEatingDogs-guy! Deadwing Dork introduced me to that...phenomenon in a stream! "Enraged Mario Adult Screams at Kids, Family Guy". Succinct summary of the man, really.
Holy fuck. I was deeply depressed and this gem came up in my recommended. Thank you, RU-vid gods. This shit is gonna keep me from thinking bad for a bit.
Dogseatingdogs6 is one of the most charmingly horrible creators I've ever seen. I found a random video of his a while ago. A bit before the deadwingdork stream and it felt almost horrifying in a way because of how serious he gets about everything around him. It especially translates into his content when it comes to how mad he gets over some fictional villians and some random kids. He felt it was justified, as a 20 something year old man, to then go yell at some 10 year olds who dont like him. And then on top of that, these mashups or whatever the fuck. i honestly have no idea what im listening to. A mashup isnt some gameplay rp musical. Its putting 2 songs together. Hes so fucking ridiculous about everything that its scarily fascinating
I mean he has changed ever since then Also you see me in their videos I don't work for him anymore you can see why in Super Origami Kingdom's New Era video comments section
