I live in Japan and I must say that they have a very high sense of modesty in this culture. They don’t like to brag nor show off. They are very quiet, decent and civilized people. Living here has been the most blessed experience Alhamdolilah.

Very enlightening. But what to do when we are under the thumb of those who impose a perverted version of Haya and we feel helpless

Time to focus on male modesty since men commit the majority of violent/sexual crimes. Please can you also speak about men's haya, modesty and modest clothing because what a lot of Muslims now believe about "navel to the knees" is just ridiculous and essentially means that men can even be shirtless. Please comment on this double standard.

Haya, modesty and decency; all apply to males as well. There are muslim men will even criticise a woman in a fully covered swimsuit but think it's okay for men to enjoy themselves half naked on beaches? They really want to make the lives of women miserable.

Sometimes, it is caused by Islamophobia. And sometimes haya is not about external look or fashion style that we wear daily, as how the shaykh emphasized in this video

The kind of haya he talks about is within human ability to enforce as one sees fit, to enforce boundaries as one sees fit, and being sensible and mindful of one’s behavior, all else that is derived from someone else’s perception is their issue to deal with.

Islam is not exclusive for those who wears certain clothing.. it is for all mankind with their various cultures… saying islam is only for those who wears hijab, when there is no clear instruction what so ever in the Quran (only based on the intepretation of some group of men) in my opinion is actually belittling islam 😢
