Blog version of this video here: wtwhivemind.com/the-number-1-idol-in-the-universe-who-is-nico-nico-nii/ Happy birthday to Yazawa Nico and let me know what you think of the video!
Great analysis as always. Nico is an interesting character where her backstory drives so much of her motivation and personality, but is next to never mentioned in the anime. Having lost her father at a young age, who she was extremely close with, Nico was now the eldest sister of a family with a struggling single mother. She took the burden of raising her 3 siblings, forcing herself to show a positive image to not discourage them, leading in a false belief that she had to be the best; the best for them. However she wasn't "the best". She came from a poor family that she was embarrassed about, she had poor-to-middle grades, likely influenced by not having the time to study because of having to look after her siblings, and previously failed in become a successful school idol. She falls upon the Nico Nico Nii mask to avoid showing her true self and hide away any pain. Insecure and alone through highschool, it's little wonder she lashed out at the fledgling µ's, jealous of what they represent, and the fact that Honoka was able to reach out to her is says a lot of how charismatic Honoka actually is. It was truly heartwarming when she fully embraced µ's to enable them to lift her up, and in turn lift them up to succeed. IMO, she's µ's biggest fan. Finally, Soramaru (her seiyuu) is a fricken gem and seems to be a riot to be around. She's launched herself into being Nico wholeheartedly, and even voices her siblings too! Also love it when she uses her deeper, 'normal', voice in some of the live performances, and her rapping skills are S Tier.
I see so many people call Nico trash, annoying, and me as a fan just sitting there like have these people watched the series do they understand what she's actually like mostly no just look at Nico's story before she wanted to be an idol so bad she made the other members of the schools previous group. she pushed them so hard they left Honoka brought her along in muse knowing she'll push them like crazy. I feel like Nico is a perfectionist Happy Birthday Nico chan ❤️ Beautiful video as always to.
If we didn't have WTW to analyze the girls, many of us wouldn't realize how great they are in terms of the anime. Nico was portrayed poorest in the anime versus the other media. She was seen as extremely arrogant and like a little gremlin. I initially hated her. But after looking into the manga and everything else, I learned more about her, and I love her more now. She was truly misunderstood.
Such a beautiful take on one of my favorite girls. Nico is a character so many people fail to understand her story and personality. They only ever see the meme and fail to see that Nico is the best foil to most of the girls in μ’s. She challenges Honoka’s half hearted desire of being an idol time and time again. When Honoka quit the first time, Nico was ready to fight her. She had entrusted all her feelings to the single ideal that her and μ’s would shine together, despite their failures but Honoka challenged that ideal. Honoka’s half hearted desire to quit infuriated Nico, not because it compromised her goal, since Nico still has the other six girls to shine with, but because Honoka was denouncing any self worth the nine girls had. Nico put her all into the dream of shining on stage with μ’s and refused to let Honoka or the others quit. When she challenged Honoka in season 2, it was with the idea to motivate her into competing again. She was willing to cheat if it meant all nine girls could be on the Love Live stage together. Because at her core, despite always coming off as selfish, Nico has started to care about those around her. When her group when on hiatus, she continued to try and keep the remaining six in a group with her. She trained Rin and Hanayo to perform alone as a group of three, and continued to practice even in the movie, after μ’s was suppose to be disbanded. And let us not forget that even when the idea of fame was brought to them in the movie, Nico was the first to agree with Maki that they had to stop. Because despite her selfish desire to perform in the Dome, Nico’s desire to keep the promise the nine had made on that beach at the end of season 2, was stronger than her selfish desire to be famous. While she marbled at the idea of fame, her ideals as a school idol would always be stronger and even if she refuses to cry in front of others because she always wants to keep smiling, she broke down her walls to give μ‘s a shine where they can move on without regrets. Nico Yazawa may be selfish and two faced but both sides of her come from a place of someone who has lost it all. She lost her father at a young age, she lost the comforts of living in a well kept family as her mother works hard to provide for her four kids. Nico lost her smile when her first idol group fail, and her third year at school she nearly lost the wings and desire to try again until μ’s reaches out. Despite her opposition the six girls who invited her, and the two who joined later got Nico to break down all her walls and genuinely shine with all her might. She became the number 1 idol not because of fame but because Nico Yazawa truly embodies everything a School Idol is. She smiles wholeheartedly on stage not just to make her audience smile, but because there is nothing more she would want than to sing on stage with everyone in μ’s.
Nico has ALWAYS been my favorite character from Love Live... normally, people think she's my favorite because of how cute she is, but no, there is much more to my love for Nico that just cuteness
Okay, now you finally talk about the best Idol! I love this character! She's funny, expressive, fairly prideful of herself and very passionate and studious about idols! Also, pigtails with ribbons, always an adorable hairstyle!
Finally you did a video about one of my best girls, you really did a justice for her. She deserves a better rep more than just "haha, nico nico nii funny" or "that annoying gremlin", meanwhile her character is way more complex than that. She's also one of characters that i heavily relate, so i hate it when i see people trashing her or just see her as a "cancer".
now i gotta admit this is the best nico video on YT, dammit. you got me this time, mister what the what. this video is very, as the youngsters would say, nico nii.
Nicocchi, Otanjobiomedeto. WatTheWut, yet another masterpiece. Nico shouldn't just be a meme(though by all means, meme away) but she and everyone in μ's make it what it is and anyone missing wouldn't be μ's. They said it themselves. Also, this was another tear jerker, I see. but we can smile with a Nico Nico Ni! Okay, I can't believe I've done this. Sorry for that last bit.
Thanks a lot for making this precious post. It means a lot to me since Nico is my best girl [ I am trying to show everyone around the Nico isnt just a meme ]
What I really liked about this one is the way you explored the concepts of the lies and the selfishness through Nico and her role in the series, great job with that.
Lmao love live was never an anime that caught my attention, but your way of speaking and carrying the videos made me want to re-watch it //Btw sorry the bad English, I'm still learning xd
To think my first exposure to Love Live was through a Nico Nico Nii meme 4 years ago... (the car one lmao) now 4 years later and I finally started the series and love everything about it. Happy birthday Nico and thank you 😁❤️
The intro: Niko sees that the Fallen Angel Yohane got a video before herself the greatest Idol in the universe Niko herself and comments "How dare you". Why can I see that happening in universe?!
Nico’s Idol persona is very close to one of my favorite former Idols, Momoko Tsugunaga of Berryz Kobo. The first time I heard of Love Live was in blog comparing the two.
I always knew Nico was lying, I just dont know how or why but it was proven to me on the train scene from season 2 Edit: oh damn im also early for this ep
I remember some of my friends thought that Neko was pronounced Niko, so they thought that the catch phrase was "Neko, neko, niiii" and it was a neko who made the catch phrase
Me: Seeing you uploaded Nico a Special Birthday Video Also me: WHERE'S NOZOMI??!!!! I NEED A NOZOMI SPECIAL BD VIDEO (Nozomi best girl) Note: Not hating or anything, just saying wanted a Nozomi Special Vid.
