Honoka in the anime is incredibly underrated. Most leadership arcs in other stories are about building the confidence to lead people. But Honoka already _has_ that confidence and charisma, so instead her arc tackles a less-discussed leadership dilemma: namely, learning the difference between pushing people to follow your goal and leading a group to achieve their shared vision. S2 of School Idol Project does a fantastic job showing her grow more attuned to the other girls' feelings and using that to fuel her own motivations, rather than it being the other way around as in S1. I'm so glad that you touched upon that aspect her character. Great video
this video genuinely made me cry. honoka has been my favourite ficitonal character since i first got into love live. out of all the video games ive played, all the anime ive watched, honoka has been the only one that was able to inspire me so much. everytime i see her on my home screen on all stars, see her as my partner in sif, hear her sing or talk, or just. look at her in general. i instantly start feeling happier. she always makes me feel better when im upset, and i can honestly say with 100% certainty that shes the light of my life. it sounds stupid, but shes inspired me so much and changed me. im insecure about basically everything about myself, but shes made me feel so much better. i love her the most because of how realistic and flawed she is. people will call her annoying, or even have her low on her list because of her flaws, or because shes an "overused character trope". but i love her. even if she is annoying, or selfish, or basic, i still love her so much because shes made me feel so much better about myself when no one else could. in the first and third episode, she clearly expresses the fact that she fully expects things to go wrong. like when maki rejected honoka for the first time, and when they had no audience for their first live, she was like, "yeah i expected this" and laughed it off even though she was clearly hurt. i dont say this a lot about anime characters but shes so well written, and just so amazing. shes genuinely made my life better. thank you for the amazing video, im glad theres finally someone that cares to look into honokas character more, past the typical happy-go-lucky main character trope.
kaomisa I feel the same way about her flaws too! They're what make her feel real, and what make you feel happy for her whenever she grows as a person. It hurts watching her make so many mistakes at the end of S1, but then that makes it feel like she really has learned her lesson in the S1 finale and the first episode of S2. To see her pick herself back up and then learn to understand herself and others - nothing could be more inspiring!
@@Dextroyfuller exactly!!!! she actually learned from her mistakes and it helped her grow as a person and helped her become a better leader to everyone. i loved how they actually gave her good character development it made me feel rlly happy :))
Even though she isn’t everyone’s favorite idol or disliked by many, she is a legend for starting what never could’ve existed without her. Thank you, Honoka for creating Muse and inspiring many others. ❤️ ☀️
I don't think she's really hated. She's just not really the most interesting character. I do think she's still a pretty cool character and I love her energy.
Came in liking groups liking other groups than muse when hearing love live songs. Watched Love Live then honoka and muse became my favorites. I just somehow liked her character as a whole
You know, I didn't care about this anime at all. I though it was only about music, dancing and bland characters. However, upon seeing your point of view about this character's depth and importance, I changed my mind. Gotta add to my watch. Thank you.
Couldn't say it better myself. In my opinion Honoka is the perfect protagonist for Love Live and I wouldn't have her written any other way. Her motives and how she goes about and achieves them is just inspiring.
Honoka is the one that kept the group going "we've come so far we can't let it come to waste" she's the light of muse the desire and soul of muse the one that made a new history about idols. She made a group with people who are different but gets along doing what they wanted. She brought a new goal for every member of muse. They are like a light bulb, they give you the light you need but even light bulbs loses it's light and so it was aqours time to shine. Muse was in my opinion the best school idol Umi was right about honoka she has something that ONLY she can do and that's why muse is special, I mean they're names ARE the 9 gods of music. I'm glad Honoka found A-rise because if she didn't I don't think Muse would've formed.
I love Honoka's character, she's a generic energetic main lead, even though she also has bad side as well. Honoka is actually like to force her way, not aggressively, she also quite egoistic, shown at the part when she wants to quit the group and abandoned muse. But these what makes her character rich, that she's not all the perfect nice and optimistic heroine. No offense but I don't see any other characters with realism like her, at least brought naturally.
I agree that's she's pretty self-centered and forceful, but I actually don't think that her decision to abandon Muse is a good example of that. At that moment, Honoka felt like her goal (winning Love Live) failed, and her best friend is leaving forever, and that it's HER FAULT (and that was also how the show framed and I don't agree with this angle either but that ain't the topic now). She came this far with Muse only for her dream to crumble and destroy her friendship as collateral damage. Honoka was arguably at her weakest and most vulnerable and in need of help. She quits Muse as an act of despair... And then Umi slaps her. Like bruh, no way I would be staying after that.
Maki has the talent. Singing good at making music etc. Honoka has well what ever Eli said(I cant explain it) Nico works very hard to become the best idol and the best role model to her siblings Nozomi is intelligent and wise So my top 4 are: Nico Honoka Nozomi Maki The other 5 has the same of these 4. So I didnt put them in
I just returned from Japan, it was so awesome to see muse in a live. I started being into LL with aquors miss the shows, events and lives from muse, they were like just a legend to me, I was pretty much surrender to never seen them in a live concert, and baaam got selected in the lottery, I just ran out of luck for the rest of the year.
One of the anime characters that have inspired me the most, her determination, her dedication, her passion and of course her incredible charisma make her one of the most important characters (if not the most important) in the history of love live. she and all μ's will always be in my heart.
Faito da yo! I love your Love Live analyses and this was no exception. You managed to voice the things that aren’t obvious at first glance about Honoka and bring forth everything we love about her. Here’s hoping that Emitsun can adopt Honoka’s optimism in her time of need, and I know we all yearn for more μ’s.
Honoka is one of those ditsy yet energetic and optimistic characters that in any other show I wouldn't care about. However, what SIP does that those other shows don't is shows what happens when that character screws up and is on the verge of breaking. The little touches that the writers give her like her struggle to communicate her problems with others until things boil over make her extremely relatable to me personally and that's why she's one of my favorite love live girls
Yessssss! SIP is pretty much like a group of girls having some problems like we have irl, that's why I love SIF more than other lovelive series! It's just so real!!
Honestly this video had me so emotional, Honoka is in my top 3 Muse girls and top 5 girls in general in the love live franchise, and I couldn't agree more with anything in this video. She is a bright shining light to everyone around her because of her love and her passion for what she does, and it invokes change and inspires those around her even years into the future. Thank you for this lovely video tribute to the wonderful and amazing leader of Muse!
That was incredible. Tbh Honoka doesn’t rank that high on my favorites list (I still like her a lot tho!) but this gave me a new perspective of her. This vid was great and I can’t wait for the Chika vid!
I love Honoka. Her determination, passion and dedication to becoming a school idol is what I love about her. It makes muse's performance and success even more enjoyable and satisfying. Seeing muse final performance at the end of the love live movie made me cry knowing that they would be disbanding afterwards. Honoka and muse will always hold a special place in my heart. The emotional attachment I'm feeling for Honoka is almost the same as how I feel towards Sayori from Doki Doki Literature Club who I've loved since 2018.
I love Honoka, she's just a dork, but she does indeed have the attitude to shine, and despite her failures, learns about unity and friendship during the series. Probably, this is actually one of the main reasons why I love this anime.
Whenever I was 10, I fell in love with Honoka (and Kotori) instantly after watching the show. At first, before watching the anime, I didn't like her at all. But after watching the show, she and Kotori quickly became one of my best girls. Her determination, her energy, everything basically. The fact that one of the most flawed characters is the leader is a great thing imo. She's an amazing leader and deserves more credit tbh
“Yeah well I’ve got a dream too! But it’s about singing and dancing and making people happy. That’s the kind of dream that gets better the more people you share it with. And I found this whole bunch of friends that have that same dream! And that almost makes us… like a family!” - Jim Henson as Kermit the Frog, The Muppet Movie.
Wow.. I certainly couldn't have ever of come up with such a beautiful description of the most important fictional character to enter my life. As I'm writing this I'm crying.. That girl was such an inspiration to me on many fronts. Thank You.
when I first watched Love Live, Nico/Maki were my favorites but after re-watching the series like 5 times till now, I can safely say Honoka is my best girl(and Eli)
Absolutely phenomenal video! I'm feeling emotional and at a loss for words! 😅 I've rewatched LL: SIP and listened to lots of μ's songs multiple times now, and you just further explained a point as to why I, and many others like yourself, absolutely love this series and this group. Wonderful Job! :D
In the beginning, Honoka wasn't really that character I payed attention to, since I thought she was the typical main girl, center. But I was wrong. Once I realized how important she was, I began to love her. She was the beginning of Muse and she's just an inspiration despite her being a fictional character. Her willpower makes her important, she took the risk even if she knew they weren't going to pop off as soon as they performed. it was definitely something dangerous since... who'd want to become a school idol at a time of crisis, right? But no matter what they all said, she continued to fight for the school and made Kotori and Umi see a different perspective of things, and soon, the 6 other girls had joined them on the stage. Without Honoka, Maki would've stayed distant. Without Honoka, Hanayo would've always been that shy kid in class who never spoke up Without Honoka, no one would've have made Rin realize that she was more than just the boyish member Without Honoka, Nico would've stayed being alone and let her dreams die in becoming a school idol one last time Without Honoka, Eli could still be that cold, silent senpai who kept every emotion to herself Without Honoka, Nozomi would've only had Eli by her side, and she never would have guessed that she treasured friendship the most Without Honoka, there would be no Muse.
I absolutely love your content and also love this video of how you see Honoka, she is my all my time favorite because she's the one that lit my heart up too and it is sad that good things had to come to an end someday, I just wish there was more 🥲🥲. Anyways as always FAITO DAYO!!🧡 Edit: this actually made me cry too I am just sad that all things had to come to an end
Honoka was never my favorite - the role of best girl for me is still reserved for Nico and Maki - but I can’t deny that she’s the beating heart of μ’s. Her determination and courage in the face of adversity was admirable from the start, and seeing her quit and even further throw a wrench into the end of season one was gut wrenching. It just almost didn’t make sense, giving up at that point. We would never have this shine without her!
I'm finishing LoveLive, I've watched SIP and sunshine and I just need to watch the Sunshine movie. these videos analysis makes me appreciate even more the series. I started watching lovelive as a joke, fucking dumb anime with cute girl singing, why is it popular??? ah it must be just fan service of cute girls doing cute things LOL XD but then... I kept watching, I was asking myself why in the hell am I keep watching this, why am I enjoying this. I couldnt believe that this show was actually good. Now at the end of my journey I can say that LoveLIve has become one of my top anime
I used to think Honoka wasn't the greatest character because of a lot of the drama at the end of season 1 and all. I knew she was important but I never really liked her as much as Chika because her success outside of the few failures she had felt more like "she could do it because she wanted it". Chika felt more real to me because she didn't lose, get back up and never fail again, but faced permanent failure she could never get another chance at. It is true that Honoka failed to win Love Live, but that wasn't their original goal at all. She even acknowledges this in a scene standing in front of UTX where she says she's fine not being the best. She doesn't outright quit being a school idol until she learns that Kotori would be leaving, which although doesn't disprove your argument, doesn't match up exactly with the catalyst. I feel Chika was handled better to me, but even still you make a lot of great points and finally made me realize what the ending of season 1 was really about. I'd love to see more of this cause I absolutely adore Love Live, and it's nice to see someone else who loves the story as much as I do. Keep up the amazing work!
honoka...HONOKA DAMN IT I LOVE HER OWO i love how bright how full of energy she is but even if she became fragile she learn from it and come back even stronger that's why i love her so much ;w; and idk why but sometimes how she act reminds me of yui from k-on xD by the way i hope there gonna be a video about maki cuz well...she is my favorite uwu but hey take your time and keep going dude ^^!
I haven't seen any of the other anime yet, but as far as the characters of the original go, Honoka is definitely my favourite, with Eli being second and Umi third.
