The people are not just cheering, they are literally screaming at the top of their lungs. My daughter and her friends were there in the area where they were walking and they were screaming tip top their lungs. She said you would have thought you were seeing some big time rock star the way people screamed for him to look their way and wave. My daughter said it was a once in a lifetime experience.
I live in the UK with David Cameron as Prime Minister. I can't ever see him having this effect on the British public. The nearest we came to such genuine excitement in recent times was when Tony Blair accompanied by his wife won the 1997 General Election (after 18 years of Tory rule) and walked to Downing Street and were cheered and applauded by thousands of Londoners. Unfortunately for Blair and his party their popularity wasn't to last.

The ambulance is standard procedure for the Secret Service. May it be a trip down the street from Pennsylvania Avenue to any of the POTUS State visits or foreign trips for that matter. Of course there are SS agents and a White House physician on that ambulance too. The physician also travels on board Air Force One which of course is equipped with a medical/operating room in case it's necessary.
