Important note: the inverter/converter is locked to 30 amps for shore power input. This means you cannot plug the 2024 Trade Wind into a 15 amp or 20 amp socket or a non-30 amp generator because the inverter/converter will always try to pull 30 amps. You cannot currently use a step-down adapter on the Trade Wind for any reason. You can, however, use a 30 to 50 dogbone adapter to plug into 50amp. I wanted to include this in my video but wanted to wait for Airstream verification before posting it.

How about the 240 volt outlet in the bed of a Ford F150 Powerboost?

I really think Airstream is going to do an update soon to address this issue.

Is this correct, usually you can lower the amp max input on the victron screen or in the app on phone. When you say this is locked out does Airstream not give the owner this ability? Also, does your shop install additional Dc/Dc for the higher amperage’s from trucks that support this via a second alternator?

You can connect to the system via VEConfgure and step down the input current to whatever you want. I had to do this to connect my trade wind to my F350s pro power

Very informative. Thanks for doing this video! It was nice to see how everything is laid out and how it is integrated compared to the non-Tradewind setups.

Super job, Chad. So much more information on your video than I received from our dealer during the "demonstration" walk-thru prior to delivery. So much more for us to learn as well. I hope you find time to continue to update this Technical Walkthrough as you continue to learn more, and receive comments from Trade Wind owners.

Nice job, Chad! On the Victron GX Touch 50 display, you can also add the DC power consumption as well. It’ll show up on the screen as a tile in the space below the inverter. Just touch the screen to bring up the ribbon at the bottom, then choose Menu > Settings > System Setup. Scroll down and you’ll see a toggle for ‘Has DC system’…turn that on and you’ll get the DC Power view added to the main Pages screen. The fridge on the Trade Wind is a 12V fridge, so as long as it’s on (and any cabin lights), you should see a small DC draw from the batteries. Helps complete the picture on the GX Touch (with AC and DC) when tracing all the power in and out. Love the Trade Wind content. Keep up the great work. Chad, I've been subscribed for some time following all your Airstream videos! I really appreciate the value you add to the Airstream and shopping experience. You mentioned that it was a Harvest Host type of camper. I know some might hesitate to pull an expensive Airstream off road so to speak in a boondoggle situation. Aside from a Basecamp, is there another RV you would recommend to kind of hit those boondoggle sites that can still hold its own with solar and batteries? Will be calling you soon to discuss the Tradewind and other Airstream opportunities. Thanks for all you do!!!! It's greatly appreciated!!!!

Steve, thank you for your comment and for following channel! I think the next closest RV to the Trade Wind would be Rockwood Mini Lite with the Rockwood power package. We have the Rockwood RVs as well! :)

Trade Wind features are great. I will trade my small 19' Caravel for a Trade Wind 25 twin bed. My only concern is the amount of noise and humming noise all those electronics will make.

Wonderful content! Many thanks for all of your detailed and thoughtful videos. Do you know if a F150 hybrid can plug its 7.2kw generator directly to the shore power input on the TW?
@ChadsRVReviews
@ChadsRVReviews 6 месяцев назад
I’m not sure you could use it with 7.2kw gen. It seems to always pull at 30amp.

Thanks for the video Chad! One Tradewind question I haven’t seen answered anywhere yet. When you have the optional rear hatch you can remove the dining table to get in and out the hatch. With the FB queen, there is a place under the bed to store the table top. Is there a place to store the table top with the FB twin model?
@ChadsRVReviews
@ChadsRVReviews 6 месяцев назад
You’re welcome! There is not an easy place to store the table in the Twin bed model outside of the dinette. It will somewhat lay between the two twin beds. If you are planning to use the hatch for loading and unload you may want to opt for the queen.

Hey Chad, am new to AS world. And I am loving this Trade Wind trailer. I just bought a 2024 GX550 Overtrail which I am thinking of using as my TV. It has a tow capacity of 9063 lbs. Your thoughts of using the GX as a TV? Is it a good match for the Trade Wind? Also, any recommendations as far as what WDH to use? TIA. Appreciate your very informative videos.

@@ChadsRVReviews thanks. I’m a heartbeat away from getting the Tradewind. The videos have been so informative to making a decision. I do boondocking with my 22’ caravel that i installed lithium in and I love it. Looking for more space and firepower. I wish you were in the Midwest. Haha.

Not sure if we can add that a Trade Wind but I would think could set up a 27’ or 28’ to be able to do that.

Having been an Overlander in the past, and doing a good deal of off-road camping. This is a disaster waiting to happen. Giving the customer the impression that they have a trailer that they should pull on unpaved roads, with all terrain tires and a lift. The reason I am saying this, is because, the most vulnerable part of the underbelly is the thin pan that is protecting the lithium batteries. I built a custom teardrop trailer for overlanding. I am familiar with how a road can go from being well maintained gravel to a washed out road with obstacles, large rocks in the middle of the road, etc. Battle Born cannot be happy about this configuration, as their product is exposed. Does anyone know what happens when lithium batteries are compromised? I can easily answer that question, you get a fire. The clock starts now, you will see someone that shows one of these trade winds burning to the ground. I pray it does not happen. But in my opinion it will certainly happen. Plus the wires are literally laying on the underbelly pan, sure they have padding on their, but to me that is not good enough. I feel this is a design that Airstream rushed, so they could come up with something new, and that is boasted of being a green energy trailer. Very disappointing. I am obviously an Airstream owner, and live within an hour of the factory. Met a person that works in the electrical department recently. I would say, that Airstream needs to step up their quality and design all around when it comes to wiring installation and design.

a DC to DC charger utilizing the 7 way factory center pin 12V positive Voltage wiring, on a vehicle. Are you kidding me. The 7 way wiring on a OEM vehicle prewired tow package, is designed to handle the nominial 1.5 amps typical that you will received from the alternator, The RED ARC is surely drawing more amps, than a OEM 7 Way plug is rated at. It says 12 Amps continuous on the RED ARC Website. If it is wired with 12 Gauge which is the recommended gauge it will handle it. I think they are rolling the dice with there being an issue by offering this. It is greatly needed, but I think it should have been something that the dealer would install as a add on, so that the tow vehicle could have been properly wired, or verified. Using a Anderson SB50 plug on the vehicle and not the 7 way connector.

I fully agree. I had a DC-to-DC installed on my 19 Aistream and my Toyota Sequoia, and the wire is a dedicated-beefy-wire. It charges my 200ah lithium batteries when I drive ultra rapidly.

I think this video is demonstrating the fact that the trade wind is not ready for prime time, too many design mis steps, battery box, seriously how about building a aluminum insert tray at the very minimum. DC DC Charger poorly executed. Multiplus not correctly programmed. Battery location is a disaster waiting to happen. Multiplus location and fan add on is a really poorly rigged system. The furnace will surely add heat to that compartment where the multiplus is located. I would say it could lead to overheating. What kind of tape is that on the roof, and are they really just using those little stick on squares to route solar panel cables, they will not stay stuck for very long, and the tape will be UV compromised in a short amount of years.
