Yeah, I agree. He’s one of my favorite characters in the show, but his character revolves around dry humor and his funniest lines are in reaction to other goofier characters like Michael and Dwight. And he’s also kind of just a depressing character in general.

^ He hates his job, he references divorce a few times, he’s the happiest he ever is in the show when he’s almost laid off, he has to put up with Michael’s shenanigans and rude comments, I’ve always just felt bad for him.

This is a consequence of how American TV is made; to run a show indefinitely so long as the ratings are not terrible. Soon as the ratings go down, maybe you will have time to write a conclusion, maybe not. Actors become their characters after pumping out season after season, so even when they are cast in other projects they are often portraying the same basic character.

And this folks is why you leave a show at its peak instead of sticking it to the end. Steve Carell did himself a favor leaving the show at the peak of its popularity. Jumpstarted his movie career instead of being stuck as Michael Scott.

I think a big thing is most of them were typecast. Like Jon Krasinski is married to Emily blunt, so that would lead to definate connections hahaha, and Steve carrell was already established pre-the office. If you only have one big role you risk being stuck to that role (see big bang theory or star wars)

I would just follow up in saying Brian Baumgartner's podcast is very well done as well. It's done very differently than Office Ladies in a "documentary" type format, with interviews woven within the episodes to tell the history of the show (hence the title of the podcast). I think a lot of people wrote it off as something trying to copy the success of Office Ladies, but it had been in the works for *years*, and it shows in the production value of the show. It's not just a puff piece, either. They get into the downfall and difficulties the show had after Steve Carell left, which was interesting to hear from people that worked on the show at the time.

Hey, I am so sorry about your loss . I wanted to add something similar here too- I have really bad epilepsy to the point where I will I have seizures for several hours. I, like your girlfriend, I’ll do the same thing in the office, where I will get to the end of the year show and then start it again. Obviously, it just was getting redundant and so I stopped watching it. Used to really help me with my depression and my sense of loneliness and isolation from having to stay in bed and rest after having the seizures.I was so happy when podcast came out because it gave me a reason to start watching the episode together. And listening to the podcast is like sitting down with two friends. I love it! Interesting comparison, and Uncle Stan's future looks even more bleak once you take into account the fact that AfterMASH was actually an official spinoff and even had Larry Gelbart, Gene Reynolds, and some M*A*S*H writers return, and it still wasn't much of a success (only lasted two seasons, and the last episode never even aired in the U.S.). If AfterMASH couldn't succeed with so many talented people from the original crew returning, there's no way Uncle Stan is gonna be good. It has basically no one from The Office involved besides Leslie David Baker, and it's essentially a whole bunch of copyright infringement. It seems Baker wants this to be the next Frasier, but it's really gonna end up being the next W*A*L*T*E*R like you said. I wouldn't necessarily say that Harry Morgan, William Christopher, Jamie Farr, and Gary Burghoff were trying to milk their characters though, or at least not in the same sense that Leslie David Baker is. 20th Century Fox came up with the idea for both AfterMASH and W*A*L*T*E*R whereas it seems Baker came up with the idea for Uncle Stan. Of course, the M*A*S*H actors could have declined the offer, but they at least didn't come up with the idea to milk the show, and knowing that there were some talented people from the original series like Gelbart and Reynolds involved, they probably had faith that 20th Century Fox knew what they were doing with these spin-offs. Meanwhile, Baker is inviting any random joe to write episodes for his show, albeit at a ridiculously high price that no one in their right mind is going to pay. Additionally, I think AfterMASH at least had some good potential since Colonel Potter, Father Mulcahy, and Klinger were all pretty well-developed characters whereas Stanley from the Office is pretty much just a one dimensional character whose whole shtick was that he was grumpy - which worked fine in his original setting of Dunder Mifflin but won't work as the main character of a show. I'm not so sure that W*A*L*T*E*R could have ever have worked though, as much as I love Radar.

Yeah, I think the characters in the office weren't perfectly designed like they were in MASH. Though what was perhaps most interesting is how different the cast was over the years. Like the only actors to remain throughout were Alan Alda and Loretta Swift, everyone else was introduced later or replaced. Like stanley was kinda a strange shoe-in with some strange reason, where the characters in MASH had complex personalities that were often conflicting, like how Frank Burns or Charles Emerson Winchester III were designed to serious more than Hawkeye or Trapper/BJ Honeycutt. Like how Hawkeye was a nickname from last of the mohicans and grew up with his father in Crabapple Cove who was also a surgeon, or BJ Honeycutt who was humourous but loyal to his wife. Father mulcahy was a model individuals who also was very skilled in boxing and did his best to help the orphanage, or Colonel Potter who was in love with painting, horses, his wife mildred, and being a good yet stern leader, and Klinger the crossdressing (merely to get out of the army on insanity charges) guy from Toledo Ohio, who would eventually replace radar and loved the mudhens and Tony Pako's. Jammie Farr actually created the Toledo hotdog buns museum by signing a hotdog bun at Tony Pako's! I agree MASH was a different scenerio and in my opinion it is better than the office due to its more rounded characters and interesting setting/cast.

Apart from Leslie, it seems like the actors from The Office are friends with each other and they do these projects because they genuinely care about the show. Office Ladies and Brian's podcast aren't just cash grabs; they just are also making money because they're about the show the actors are famous for.

Honestly, I’m kind of over it. I think they’ll improve in the future, but right now it’s mostly suburban mom chatter. I also find it off-putting how they constantly say they are best friends and overuse the word “lady.” There are some interesting tidbits in the episodes, though, so it’s not all bad.

It popped up right after the Good Place podcast ended so I think the main money grubbing motivations are from NBC. Angela and Jenna seem sweet!

Kinda reminds me of Fake Doctors Real Friends, with Zach Braf and Donald (Phason?) rewatching Scrubs. They have had like every major cast member on so far, it’s a pretty fun listen all be it a bit annoying at times

I've been loving their podcast. You should also check out The Michael Scott Podcast Company series. They're pretty funny and It's not linear so you can just pick an episode you like.

I actually saw Creed do a show. He played some originals, a Grass Roots song and a song about the office on top of a bunch of little comedy bits. It was really great tbh

The podcasts are weird. They spent years saying they wouldn't do anything Office related but when acting gigs dry up and it blows up on Netflix, they come full circle again.

The Oral history of the office is pretty good in my opinion but I don't know about the other one.

It's like the spin-off show "Joey" of just Joey from Friends. Only fits one role in entire cast that's needed to make the show work. If the whole thing is just Stanley hating everything and not being enthusiastic about anything other than going home or pretzels, it gets really boring.

Stanley and kevin should compete in America ninja warrior cause there 2 of the best and funniest characters.

This is a joke but I've always thought it would be really funny if two completely unrelated shows just randomly linked their universes the way Marvel stuff does. Like just imagine if you were watching Breaking Bad and Walt ends up in the hospital, and it turns out that he's in the hospital from Scrubs and JD comes in and has a wacky back and forth with Turk or something. How incredibly, mind-bendingly jarring would that be? I wouldn't know what to do, but I would be thoroughly entertained.

Sometimes at his concerts, back when those were a thing, he'd play the office theme song and obviously everyone gets hyped. Its one of those things that isn't desperate, but more wholesome.
