had this on a tape bought from the band out of their van on their first tour, in this case a basement of a skater they met after a bar gig fell through in Washington state. like 9 of us in some kids basement watching a band we just met at a grindable painted curb :oP one of the best shows of my life, they were tight and quality from the get go. It was really rather amazing, skaters watch plenty of garage bands in the late 80's, 99% barely could play their instruments, to see these guys on their first tour out of LA in a basement, it was just bizarre in the best possible way. Redemption from all the times we had to tell the band they were awesome when they really were just sort of OK. These guys were actually awesome!
The original? With the Alien cover? And Kill the President still on it? If so, that's worth a fortune! If it doesn't have them, it's not original sadly :(
I think I'm the only one who enjoys ALL of the offspring's music, rather than liking 2 albums and hating on the rest as if someone was forcing me to listen to music I don't like, as the offspring themselves said 'if you don't like it just, don't listen to it.'
I have interviewed the Offspring in Tampere Tullikamari on the 30th of August back in 1994 w/ supports Karkkiautomaatti and Apulanta. 4½ months after that Lord Jesus saved me at my very home on the 14th of January back in 1995. That violent Hamas attack in Israel more than 3 weeks ago made me listen to this old song of their debut album released on Nemesis Records that I had at that time. I pray peace for the West Bank as well as for the state of Israel.I also pray for many punk rockers all over the globe because I have many close punk friends who are still alive. Punk rock was my thing from 1979-1994 but now as an street and net evangelist I try to reach people for Lord Jesus as good as I can. Be blessed in Jesus´ almighty and precious name!
It's been years since I've heard this song. I never realized how much is has a mid 80s thrashy, metal sound. It could have been on a Metal Massacre compilation and been right at home.
All of these songs are so great, and still relevant today, I think it ties in well with they're one song from ignition... "I've been told that to get what you want You just gotta give what you can But I know for what I want it don't come easy as that -- Like Holden Caulfield, I tell myself There's got to be a better way Then I lay in bed and stare at the ceiling Dream of brighter days"
My favorite song off The Offspring's debut. I love Dexter's vocal melody and Noodles' guitar parts here (and because I have a crush on Jennifer Lawrence:).
+MichaelD8393 So you imagine this song is about her? This song about a 6 year old girl named Jennifer who was brutally raped and left dead in the woods?
+MichaelD8393 I figured it was like all the Christians who went and saw Passion of the Christ to watch their hero get flogged to death. Lol, I knew what you meant, it's just unintentionally creepy when you think about it. My dad is from India and my mom is American, and my dad used to sing the song "American Woman" to my mom, but he didn't realize that it was kind of fucked up since by singing it, he is essentially asking for a divorce. He would just sing "American Womaaaan hmm hmm hmm meeeeeeee"
Yeah, I love this song... though its subject matter is quite heavy. I have the original CD, and people in my area were like, "Dude... who F is this?" 🤣
@WasBMOC I think it has to be related to the fact that Get It Right was written somewhere between 85-90, theres some rare footage of them as Manic Subsidal playing it, maybe it was the feeling the band was getting back in those years or something
"really seen no hope" instead of "really sinned now". That's what I always heard in my head. But either one works I guess. I just think mine works better.
Will the morning headlines, even say that it's a shame? Classic Offspring, they broke up after Ixnay, last thing they released.................honestly :-)
In my opinion, the best song The Offspring wrote. I know I'm gonna get so much shit for this, but let's face it: post-Smash, they really took a dive in terms of quality. The early stuff was the best.
Saw them at a Indian Casino about 5 mile's from my house in 2017 they rocked like a M.F... I dropped my water & they gave me a V.I.P pass could've had anything I wanted from the Bar or Kitchen I just got back the Water I dropped! Totally Cool of them! I still have the green wrist band...
Anytime I wonder about the relevance of music because of Miley Cyrus and that other prick, I listen to this song again and it cuts through all the bullshit. Tears my heart apart as it's the reality.
GEN X, what a ride! "Gen X the only Generation that's cooler then their kids" It ain't hard Zoomers, you're absolutely tame & lame compared to teen youth from the 70s-90s. Social media is killing your creativity & originality
It’s about the fact that children can just be found dead in these grizzly and sad circumstances and how the world seems so desensitized to it and how the world can be so self centered in its own problems that stuff like this is just standard issue
@@zanderbear2487 You know, it's funny. I almost forgot I made this comment (might've been drunk actually) though I recently did start to realize the actual meaning of this song.
