Live performance at House of Blues, Las Vegas, in March 12, 1999. Taken from The Complete Music Collection DVD (2005). Tracks: 01 - Self Steem 02 - All I Want 03 - Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) 04 - Why Don't You Get A Job
I saw the offspring live in June '99 in Melbourne Australia and I can testify that this is pretty much the quality of their live sound back then. The only difference is these days, dexters voice is having a hard time
That song beams me back to my youth. We were young, the world was us, no limits, no mobile phones. We spent our focus on real important things like beers girls and punk music
it is live... They used studio audio on the "Give it to me baby, Ah-ha ah-ha" from "Pretty Fly" but live Higgins would hit the sample on his little skull things, to play the part. It's weird they overdubbed Dexter's "Ah-ha, Ah-ha" part- he was probably horribly off key...
To be fair, with all the bands playing one after each other, the techs (for each band) have a hard time having a short window to assemble, then disassemble the equipment after each band plays.
***** I can't really hear the second guitar, but I definitely notice the back up vocals do not match up to noodles, nor dexter at the end of the song. Either way, they're my all time fav for sure.
I'm sure it has a heavy post-mixing and even some overbuds upon it, but the core is from the actual live recording. On their other DVD, Huck It, all live performance audio is fake indeed, just the video with the studio music. But this is real.
