You can sit on your high horse all youd like but that unregulated business model is why America was able to grow so fast. I'm not saying we shouldn't fix it now, but that's a stance from a position of privilege. We've become the world's main superpower already and can now afford to regulate.

As a native of Louisville, it's always been a bit of a joke how bad the Ohio is. The fish glow in the dark, they say. Or when a criminal jumped in it to escape the cops, "He's gonna regret that in a few years." Also, it's Loo-uh-vull. Louie-vill is acceptable but will get you immediately outed as an outside. Louis-ville just hurt my soul. Leave the s out unless you're trying to start a fight.

One can't overstate the importance of the Ohio River Valley during WW2. You could have stuck a pin in the map in Cincinnati, and drew a circle with a 200 mile radius around it and inside that circle there was more production happening than the rest of the world combined.

I can also confirm that Ohio is in very awful shape.. as growing up here and still here, it's not a great place. Their is very little good industry to get a decent paying job unless you work in the Healthcare industry... That's pretty much the only jobs that are outside of big cities. Most of the big cities as well are turning into crime riddled, gang ran trash dumps. Cleveland is worse than Detroit, Cincinnati is getting very bad as well and Columbus is on the decline. Then you have counties like Pike and Vinton that are extremely poor and most homes way out in the stix of those county's don't even have running water. You're very right about most of the small towns looking like they had been through a war. Ohio has really taken a severe punch to the gut. They also are stripping funds from all the state parks, so now even are beautiful state parks are becoming trashy bc locals and out of state tourists throw trash and whatnot everywhere. It's sad😢

The use of rivers in the development of America is honestly one of the most fascinating historical topics to me. If I could travel back in time to any period of American history I’d want to go on a riverboat cruise during the Industrial Revolution. Also, blaming the East Palestine issue on “Conservatives” is just wrong. It’s the federal government as a whole denying the level of damage. It is a bipartisan refusal to do anything.

How tragic. This tale of horror starts with two colonial powers fought each other over land and resources that they were stealing from a foreign independent country. It continues with the engineering of that same country and river to suit themselves. It is again fought over by opposing sides in various wars not least the civil war. And now companies with license from their government (knowing full well, most, if not all, countries) are only proxy voters of major industries and by extension singularly rich individuals fight off the population so they too can control this river and the land. How sad it is that our nations have not fallen to war but to the stealth of those who invade and overwhelm our lives and rights to emerge as victorious citizens (but actual conquerers) as the subsume all under their banner.

Not sure how the conservatives are responsible for under-exaggerating the significance of the Palestine derailment especially since they have been highly critical of the Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg (See reports from Walsh and Shapiro for examples).

@@WouldntULikeToKnow. I never said that their reporting was correct or unbiased. The significance of Walsh and Shapiro is their influence over conversative thought. If they are being critical of Buttigieg's handling and since Buttigieg is from a party in general opposition to their bias, then you can reason that the conservatives are more likely to over exaggerate the significance of the Palestine derailment instead of understating it. Hence, for the author to claim that the conservatives are under reporting the impact of the derailment without any supporting evidence, is a shaky argument because it reduces the conservative position to virtual idiocrasy. When your opponent messes up, you don't cover for them. If the conservatives are under reporting the significance of the event, then they are effectively covering for their opponents. That's why I find the author's argument shaky at best and allegedly fraudulent at worst.

I am sorry 😔 but the conservatives were the ones bitching the loudest about getting that train wreck cleaned up. 😂 sorry to correct you. No I am not.

Wrong. If conservatives cared at all they would be fighting for regulations to pretend these train accidents from continuing to happen. They have done literally nothing but fight attempts at regulation of trains with dangerous chemicals and have fought against the cleaning of the Ohio river time and time again. There are 49 Republicans in the Senate, if they cared so much about train derailments and safety, why are only 7 in support of a bill designed to enact safety measures and prevent future crashes? 24 Republican-run states have recently sued the EPA after measures were put in place regarding the pollution of rivers, because they care more about "economic growth" than about the facts that some of the rivers are literally able to CATCH FIRE! But I am sorry if my facts interfere with your feelings. No I am not.

Homie lost all credibility when he said conservatives were downplaying the environmental effects of east Palestine. The conservatives were the only ones even talking about it. The liberal president completely ignored the situation.

Your crack about yesterday's immigrants being similar to today's situation is pretty far off base. Unlike in the 19th century, unfettered immigration today is more about purposefully changing the demographics to gain a electoral advantage for generations to come. Also in today's welfare state, unskilled immigrant labor costs more than it returns. So, for example, rich people get their cheap landscapers, while you pay for their medical.
