Thanks Jennifer glad you liked it. We bought the 45 when we lived in Okaihau in 1961/63, by then the train was a diesel unit, but still had cow catchers as I recall! Looking on Google earth there's nothing left of the line nearly 60 years later

@@MrRnipperBrockleBroadcasting From1968 I lived metres away from the railway line in Whangarei......We knew the 5am winter crawl and the 10pm quicker one! there were a few short hauls in-between....Prior to that, I lived in Taumarunui on the main trunk line. Truly

I also just happened to be a passenger on the last commercial steam train to climb the Raurimu Spiral.

@@jenz1958 When I was last in NZ in 1978/9 I did the spiral and main trunk a couple of times on board the Silver Fern, and also had one of the main Auckland - Wellington expresses stop for me by accident as they thought I wanted to board when I was actually just taking photos at a tiny halt at the Northern foot of the spiral!

They were / are two contestants in a game called Jet Lag which is a Competitive game show based around traveling (and its hardships) where contestants complete challenges to use different modes of transportation. Apparently one challenge was to learn the Okaihau Express song🤠

Yes it surprised me that a song from around 1959 about an obscure railway line I travelled on as a small child and celebrated with a garden railway video attracted all this attention, and is still doing so a year after the initial hits!

Built by a retired Rolls Royce engineer, now unfortunately no longer with us, John Prescott. He built a small range of gas fired 0-4-0 locos and this tender version with radio control, entirely from scratch in a garage / workshop in his garden. Each one did take some time to emerge from the works! There’s a couple of us in Nottinghamshire who own examples, and I believe he built around 50 locos altogether, with the Wagtail class tender version very much in the minority. Lining was done by Lightline. He also made various parts and a very good rolling road, these latter probably being more profitable than the locos as he could make one in around 30 minutes.
