Wonderful video. Proof positive that a simple, wholesome business model can prosper in a world that otherwise prospers on things that are decidedly much less.

When faced with the adversity of the fire that gutted and ravaged their store: ie their source of income and a means of livelihood. Instead of despair they preserve,"shifting their focusing to more intimate form of communication". This foresight led to the offering of high quality valentine and Christmas cards in envelope. Their discovery and founding of an idea of value of intimate form of communication to create, share and celebrate personal and collective experiences and stories, etc was the key that unlocked the veiled padlock of wealth and fortune.

Sad that people don't do cards much anymore, I haven't seen a Hallmark store in over 20 yrs, digital has killed cards and letter writing.

Not where I am , 20 foot long display cabinets of different cards ( and more at Xmas time) in every newsagents shop in my city. I received 14 cards this Christmas by post or hand.

You can’t compare hallmark to Vanderbilt, hallmark is a pauper compared to Vanderbilt

200 years ago I'd agree, but today it's the vanderbilts that are peasants compared to the hallmarks

@@michaelangelo6818 yeah, let’s just drag mansa moosa into this, if we’re both trying to intentionally misinterpret the sentences presented in this video. Vanderbilt had a networth of $100m in 1870s terms, which would be worth $185 billion dollars today, so there’s absolutely no room for comparison.

I never understood why Americans pay $5 for a piece of a card. Anyone can make better card for a lot less but they dominate the space in grocery stores. There should be something more behind.

Dear, it’s only a point of reference for the consumption of majority viewers that are unaware of ADOS/FBA/Pan African. Besides, you don’t speak for all! I and everyone else I know are okay with the African American label! I assume you’re under 30 and in your discovery phase! Just keep it to yourself for now, you still have a lot to learn! -Respectfully
