Elvis recorded several albums of Gospel music. This song wasn't on any of them. He never, ever, recorded it. And this most certainly isn't him. Anyone who has listened to very many Elvis recordings could tell that within seconds of it starting.

I'm rather upset that the videomaker shall keep on swindle people into believing that Elvis sang and recorded this song, when he never did. Please know that many videos on RU-vid is not Elvis, even though it is written Elvis as singer. Several songs, as One Pair Of Hands, Hallelujah, Happy, Happy Birthday, Baby (with guitar) and this song: The Old Rugged Cross. I'm sorry that people don't know their Elvis, or try to do a fraud, to get views and click on their false video. I hope you are doing better after your loss. God bless.

3/29/2024: Good thing that I have a calendar like this one. A reminder that today commemorates "Good Friday." I will admit that I fell down on my Christian duties because I have become SO CONSUMED with having a positive frame-of-mind despite a terminal diagnosis. And he had three albums and a totally of about 80 songs with gospel and christian songs... About 10 % of his complete works... But this song was and is not on that list!
Love the song, I was just looking forward to hearing Elvis sing it, Really disappointed. I was sure he had never recorded it but was hoping I was wrong, Just change the tag line "THE OLD RUGGED CROSS" and no one will complain

Why is the issue here is if elvis recorded this song? Just ignore who sings and be contentment of the hym. You should be thankful for this man singing christian song right in your ears.

I messagedJohn Berry a while back and even though it isn't Elvis, it's definitely one of his favorite songs. . He was flattered but he did NOT put this out as being Elvis. Someone else did. I don't think Elvis ever recorded it.
This is definitely not Elvis. As far as I know, he never recorded it. It sounds like him on the deeper notes. But when it gets to the higher notes, it sounds more like Johnny Mathis, although I have never heard Johnny recording in this sort of Country style. It is not on Elvis' double CD of his complete Gospel songs.
