If you really want to live go help shovel that stuff. When I would complain about the work we were doing as a kid my dad would always say “if you are hungry enough no one is too good to shovel shxx.” I have found that to be true.

Yellow poplar is not a poplar but a member of the magnolia family, Liriodendron tulipifera. The books list Cucumbertree as Magnolia acuminata, a related tree with simple oval leaves.
@craigc828
@craigc828 8 месяцев назад
Pro tip...rake or blow the leaves onto a 12x8 tarpaulin, gather the corners of the tarp and empty into the logrite trailer. You'll fill that trailer in 2 or 3 trips. Way easier than 90 plus rake fulls. Especially handy as you get farther and farther from the trailer unless you want to keep moving the trailer closer to the leaves on the ground. Cheers from Toronto, Ontario.

I looked up cucumber tree. The definition I got was it was a relative to the magnolia tree and they figured it was because of the shape of the fruit that it had.

Speaking of cucumber trees- got an idea? Need one big cucumber, some brillo pads or steel wool if you prefer.And a very small baseball cap. The steel wool represents your beard and you should see how it all fits together!? Somethin to think about, maybe, ask your son and see if he approves?

I really like following you and all your doings, and I just can’t help myself when I am always thinking up suggestions for how things could be done easier (my friends will back me up on this.) With this double sided log splitter, this is how I would set it up if I had a situation like yours. I would put it in a location where one side would dump into a bin near the shop door, so it would minimize the effort to get wood into the shop stove. The other side would dump into something that you could move up to the house, so likewise on the effort up there. What do you think?

All the shavings that this machine, log splitter, makes... do just throw them but put in a pile and use them as kindling... If you start selling the wood as fire wood then a bag of kindling is a dollar!!! It is not fat wood but some could be converted to be!!! Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!

There's a time and place for scientific accuracy, but I'm pretty sure my profs in forestry grad school would have been more interested in learning what old timers called a tulip poplar than in correcting their local name for the tree. Just yesterday my sister, with a PhD in Biology, chose to refer to our local junipers as cedars, as they're commonly labled. We all knew what she meant.

Try the Easton-made box wedge machine, or at least look at it on line. You’re having to handle the wood too much, plus the Easton-made has about a 2” cycle time. Check it out, or did you get a deal on the used woodmiizer ? I do not have an Easton-made but I think it is faster and less handling.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to you and your family Nathan! It was a pleasure to have this video to watch while the turkey was cooking in the kitchen and making my mouth water with how good it smells! I have to say that log splitter is a powerful machine and it sure beats the axe or the hammer and wedge! I can see what you men by thinking maybe the 5 way attachment would save you time reworking some of those pieces. I liked how you tried a few different loading methods to test for efficiency while splitting this batch. What did you conclude?

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Nathan! I wee note about your log splitter. Have you considered building a pallet with walls as a catch basin on each end of your splitter to catch the firewood as it falls off the end racks? You can use Mr. Kato to relocate and empty the pallets when you find time. Just thinking out loud. Cheers again from Alberta, Canada!

Glad that you corrected the "Old Timers" because I thought you had lost your mind describing yellow poplar (tulip poplar - lirodiun tulipera) as cucumber tree (mountain magnolia, don't recall the latin for that one). That is a very neat splitter. I suspect you know that tulip poplar is not much of a fire wood for heating, but OK for camp fires and when well seasoned is a good cooking wood stove fuel because it burns very cleanly and does not get way too hot to control like some hard woods. My W-A guess is that you are going to buy a firewood processor with converyor and such. the Rooster

Should have waited until the end of the video before making a comment. Magnolia acuminata, commonly called the cucumber tree (often spelled as a single word "cucumbertree"), cucumber magnolia or blue magnolia, is one of the largest magnolias, and one of the cold-hardiest. It is a large forest tree of the Eastern United States and Southern Ontario in Canada. It is a tree that tends to occur singly as scattered specimens, rather than in groves.[
