When the actor playing Egon Olsen died, some prisoners at the prison (vridsloselille state penitentiary) Egon Olsen always goes to, suggested to the management of the prison that the road leading to the prison was renamed from Fængselsvej (prison road) to Egon Olsens Vej(road) It was unanimously approved at the city hall.
I drive by the Vridsløselille prison every day to/from work and the road-name really has been changed to “Egon Olsen- vej”. The prison has since been closed down and now serve as a museum.
The 14 Olsen Gang movies are/were very popular in East Germany, Hungary and Poland. I am hungarian and really love these movies because they have great humor and the hungarian dub is also good
If im not wrong The Olsen Banden/Gang is a Norwegian thing. It originated from Norway? Edit: after further research i found out that it was Danish writer who came up with the concept, but it was the Norwegians that really ran with it and made it kind of their thing.
@@Drakengard65Olsen Banden was created by Erik Balling and Henning Bahs, two Danish movie makers. The danish movies was then released in Norway to moderate success. The Danish humor didn’t really sit well with the Norwegian people. The concept was then sold to Norway, who then remade some of the Danish versions and then went their own way, which then became a big success. Trough the years Erik and Henning made a lot of fun of Norway in their movies😂 I think they did the same in the Norwegian versions. The Scandinavian banter as always
When i was a child, i loved watching this. Unfortunately it stopped after Egon died and when i was 4 years old. These were my childhood movies, always put a smile on my face. But life comes around and unfortunately also ends. Long live denmark, and glory to danish people. 🇩🇰
Morten Grunwald who plays Benny, was the last of the cast, passed away about 2 years ago. Benny is the one in the check-jacket and yellow socks. I met him once 25 years ago. He was a very nice man.
@@RejsMedOs He is still alive, correct. there are a few others alive as well, but as time goes by, so does the lives of the actors that was in the movies. Unfortunately
5 FACTS about the Olsen Gang you didn't know: 1. Ove Sprogøe (the actor playing Egon) did pretty much all his own stunts in all the movies. One of them almost cost him his life. 2. Olsenbanden ser rødt (no 8) Sold over 1.2 million tickets in Denmark a record that hasn't been broken since. 3. The movies were written in april, shot in june/july and had premiere in the fall the same year. That's 6 months. Another record never been borken since 4. None of the characters exsisted untill Lotte Dandanell created their costumes. 5. Every script for The Olsen Gang, started with: Where is Yvonne now, what is she doing.
@@julius6889 it was in the 6th film, where behind the scenes Ove really wanted to go on a stunt revolving being pulled down in water by a chain lifter, but The Director told him it was recommended he should'nt get on, because they already build a puppet for the stunt and they knew it whould be dangerous if he tryed. So in the final shot they used that puppet and what do you know? It got destroyed because the chain hit so hard down that the float of the water made it collide on the head. So thank god Ove did'nt turn crazy and got on there! even though he actually got mad after being told by the director
I wish these movies were available for Region 1. I don't even mind that I can't understand a word of Danish, I love these films so much. I will LEARN Danish. :-D
The thing about the region codes is annoying, I have the same problems when buying US DVD's You can reset the region code on your computer a few times before it locks, so perhaps just play them once on the computer and rip them, then once you are done set the computer back to your original region code. and store the films on a hard drive.
You can also download fan made subtitles for some of the Olsengang films and use your media player on the computer to sync the subtitles with the films, I did that for some old Japanese films i needed English subtitles for some time ago.
@@Sohave So it turned out I had a Region Free DVD player, that I had bought years ago and forgot we had. So I can play the Hungarian Region 2 on it. Weird thing is, the 6th movie has no subtitles.
I love The Olsen Gang movies. I bought the boxset in spring 2019 together with the Norwegian equivalent. In Sweden, were im from, i watched the Jönssonligan movies that are the swedish equivalent. Would love to see how Hollywood versions of The Olsen Gang movies would work. And i think Timothy Dalton would fit as Egon, Keanu Reeves as Benny & Wayne Knight as Kjeld. Its 1 of my alltime favorite movie franchises. And i think it deserves a big recognition & be reviewed by more awsome RU-vidrs like James Rolfe, mostly known as Angry Video Game Nerd, from Cinemassacre. I also love The Olsen Gang Theme. 💙👏🙏
Pretty good introduction to the Olsen gang. I do think the instructors and makers of the films especially Erik Balling and Henning Bahs. For their timing and genius ways of making gadgets and plans that the gang uses. In an older interview, Ove Sprogøe (the actor that players Egon Olsen) said that they wanted to "blow up" some of the order of society is sort of an anarchist way - "place a few bombs under society" And you can see this as "the enemy" of the gang is often bureaucrats, millionaires or nobility. Just look at the scene with the bureaucrat saying that its "nothing personal" even the fact that he has ordered Egon to be blown up :D sort of a satire on how bureaucrats run society via formal un-personal systems blinded for there personal consequences for "the little man on the floor"
This, THIS was one of the greatest parts of my childhood. One of my favorite parts (right after Egon insulting the guys for messing up) is when Yvonne says: "And there comes the police, for example" One of the guys: "The police? we gotta get away" *The guy then flee out the back door asap* Yvonne: "And then they just leave, *sign,* men" (That's the best translation I can make, like so many things, it sounds best in its native language)
alot can and should be said about the Olsen Banden Movies. One thing i will mention is that people should pay close attention to the many statements and explanations the older Police investigator (played by Axel Strøbye) directs towards his younger police colleague in the movies. there is some profound truths spilled out among all the comedy and satire. og ellers så der bare at sige : Skide Godt, Egon! Du Var GENIAL =)
That scene in the opera house is amazing. I just saw "The Blacklist" do a version of this in their 6th season, but it was no where near as good. Totally beaten by a scene from a film that is more than 40 years old. This video also cut out the best part from the scene where Egon gets cement shoes. When he is freed, they take of his mouth cover and it is revealed that he had a lit cigar stump (his signature feature) in his mouth the whole time.
@@weirnershittler6752 oh yeah. That was a great episode. The whole vacuum thing is awesome. Actually reminds me of another danish film from 1963 called Støvsugerbanden (the vacuum gang) where a bunch of old people rob banks with the help of vacuums :)
Sing the melody from the film and every Dane Will sing along! It’s simply the best movie franchise to be shown in Danish Cinema and television! Every Danes childhood heroes 🙏🏻
1:07 Simple translation "Oh no, look, he fell" "Yeah, shits with him" (a danish way of saying something dosen't matter or isn't important, is "skide være med det", basicly meaning "shits worth with it") "But they're kicking him" "Oh yeah, so what, he's a swede"
Correct, they insisted on using a doll while Ove Sprogø wanted to do the stunt himself. The production crew got their way and preformed it with the doll at first, but the bucket was too light so when it hit the surface of the water, the balancer and block pounded the doll flat.
The US has The Three Stooges, the USSR has Trus, Balbes and Byvalyj, and Scandinavia has the Olsen Gang, *three* Olsen Gangs in fact, with Swedish and Norwegian versions of their owns.
Yes, Swedes and Norwegians have actually borrowed a lot of danish shows / movies over the years, and made their own versions. Another example is the christmas show "The julekalender", which runs for 24 episodes and which the Swedes and Norwegians and even Finns made their own versions of.
@@MickMackMikkel fun fact the three guys playing The Olsen Gang in the Norwegian version actually have a small cameo in one of the Danish the Olsen Gang
I'm embarrassed to admit I JUST heard about this series, found ALL of them and settling in to start watching them and.....DON'T HAVE ANY SUBTITLES. Does ANYONE have any idea where ENGLISH subtitles might be available?
I think a simple google search for Olsen Gang subtitles will help you. Often there will be people who make the subtitles them selves and upload them for others to use. So they may not be super accurate / official, but still usable. If you watch the movie with something like VLC player, then you can import the subtitle file and have it follow the audiotrack.
that is true "Der er et yndigt land" is the national anthem of denmark(used most at sport matches etc.), Kong Christian stod ved højen mast is the royal anthem of Denmark
When East Berlin (GDR) celebrated the 750th anniversary of Berlin, they had a parade and as a part of it there were actors portraying the Olsen Gang. You can see it at the 2m39s point of this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lacV56WkAhs.html
Nope, the voiceover was done before I was even born. This is old promotional material from Nordisk Film, that I felt deserved to be shared to a wider community.
25:15 I have to correct you, Sir.. our national anthem is NOT this. This song is “Kong Christian Stod Ved Højen Mast.” Alias “The Kings Song” The Danish national anthem is called “Der er et yndigt land”. Sorry for correcting, but it was needed. Thanks for a great upload ❤️
@@Luka1180 It’s easy to tell he’s Danish from the accent. He’s trying really hard to come across as British, but as a Dane, it’s very clear he is Danish. That’s all.
Yep, det er også primært en Dansk kanal jeg driver her, Jeg leger bare kulturattache for mit land og prøver at nå ud til alle dem der ikke har hørt om Olsenbanden ved at skrive det på Engelsk.
