Mary-Kate and Ashley are forever fashion icons to me. Definitely influenced my style, but I also think they spoke to my aesthetic wheelhouse. The boho, romantic, gothic, grungy feel. Love for vintage and history. It’s also funny that you mention thrifting opposed to curated vintage pieces because I found an authentic Comme Des Garçons jacket at my local Salvation Army. This was in the early 2010s when they weren’t so curated but It’s been my luckiest find to date. I’m probably the exception to that rule but I do agree that being more selective about second hand/ vintage is better. I think buying clothes in general should be looked at very selectively.
You hit the nail on the head. I'm subscribed to The Rows email, and I see they often use really important and specific architecture and design references as PR for their brand and it really speaks to the broad language and extended interests of the designers. They take their time, and you can tell they deeply and genuinely love and study design. I think they are extremely important taste makers. Great video!
I absolutely love Mary Kate and Ashley, they are the definition of fashion in my mind. I believe they are the ultimate FASHION icons of the century.I feel I followed the Olsen's ever since the 90's when I was a kid. I love their 2000's era and I love their fashion lines to date as well but nothing says fashion more than the Olsen twins in the 2010's era. From the shoes to the bags Mary Kate's baggy aesthetics and Ashley's chic looks are literally everything. I love how close of sisters they are and how they are so mysterious and private and how they give us that New York cigarette coffee fashion vibe that I just love.
I've been following them since I (and they) were kids. They are only a couple years older than me and I totally relate to what you're saying. It's like I've been with them throughout every style evolution. Thank you so much for watching❤
I have to say that when I first saw how you were dressed with the scrungy on your arm, I wasn't sure where this video was going, but you kept me engaged with your knowledge of fashion, and the Olsen's was fantastic, and the photo inserts were excellent.
Fantastic analysis of the twins! I have been mesmerized by their aesthetic since the 90’s and to hear someone break it down in such an astute way validates how special their style is! Bravo!
yes so here for this video! I looooooved the olsen twins growing up and their minimalist style is so good. they've gotten a bit like witchy, i love the depth of this video and talking about the row! 💛 love the pheobe philo point, they really did fill the void that she left of luxury clothing for the everyday woman as the celine now by hedi slimane is quite different as it's more for the party girl!
I just came across you channel and I LOVE IT!! I cant stop watching your videos!!! This is the perfect analysis of my style icons!! Suscribed instantly!!
i loved everything about this video , it was helpful for me to not copy them but have my own creative style it was said beautifully! it wasn’t like everyone else who just talks about how iconic they are but you broke it down .
Excellent commentary video Mary, thank you! The Olsen twins released a book about all of their fashion influences in 2008, I highly recommend it. Victoria Beckham’s style + handbag evolution would be interesting to see your commentary on! From owning all the Birkins one can think of, to designing her own line. Thank you ✨
Yes, I definitely need to check that book out. Great point about Victoria Beckham, would love to do an analysis of her style. Thank you so much for watching Judith!
I think you should do videos on some style icons from yesteryear and Europe. Some names which immediately come to mind include, Charlotte Rampling, Katharine Hepburn, Carole Bouquet, Ines de la Fressange, Catherine Deneuve, Monica Bellucci, Maria Callas, Marissa Berensen, Slim Keith, Babe Paley, Grace Kelly , Princess Caroline of Monaco, Queen Rania of Jordon, Jaqueline des Ribes, Carolina Herrerra, Grace Jones, Chloe Sevigny, Lauren Becall, Cate Blancett, Tilda Swinton, Gwendolyn Christie. Great videos!
I love all of the Olsen twins styles! I have some of their handbags and I think they are quite nice. It is nice to see someone talk about brands that I really like besides the usual designer brands.
You are right. The Olsen twins broke all the rules for petite dressing. Since I am petite, this fascinated me. One thing they do pretty consistently now, as you said, is create a column of color, using luxurious fabrics, which drape and flow.
I find it interesting that they seemes to not really care about their hair anymore early one. Almost as if they just wanted let the clothes speak and kinda disappear, not steal the attention to the outfit.
Came across your content and felt like I finally found a fashion channel I can connect with!! Please make a video about Phoebe Philo, Céline (not Hedi’s ), Emanuelle Alt, Loro Piana, etc,!
i really loved this video, the way you talked about their style over different decades was really interesting! i love the olsen twins style too (i did an outfits video on their style on my youtube channel). will be subscribing for more content
I love this detailed work. Just have to point out that the word you are looking for is SCANDINAVIAN. This style and price point is very common at Copenhagen fashion week every time.
I noticed they dont really care about their hair anymore. It's as if they really want to point out they are like everybody else. And also the outfit kinda gets all the attention. I love them and I miss them too.
Great video, I love the Olsen Twins style. Btw it’s Ah-hern not Ay-hern. As an Irishman (though she’s English with Irish heritage) that made me chuckle but great to mention her. My friend is obsessed with her, he’s decorated his whole house according to her principle.. I always joked he joined a cult, he even did her course
Thanks for the info! Understand the obsession, could see myself applying some of her design principles fashion-wise and interiors of course. Thank you for watching!
With all due respect I wish the Row fit the price point of their fans who although are now adults-once supported their first official clothing line at Walmart. Yes I understand quality costs money but unless their employees are getting free healthcare and more than fair wages, idk how to justify those prices.
@@MarysRoom other than the hair, i only have a general view of her style. but i doubt any youtuber i watch even know who she is (shade!): simply one of the most powerful women in the world. nice! keep it up!
I think something we can learn is to invest in a few quality pieces that are made of high quality materials, rather than spend money buying a lot of pieces we only wear once or twice.
I wonder if it’s luxurious and also a way to be stylish but covered up. Like. I’ve never liked to show my skin too much. I’m not ashamed of my body. I’m grateful and love my body but I’m also not comfortable showing it, never have. I wonder if the Row clothing appeals to women like me. Stylish, comfortable, great quality, and coverup:)
Yes there are moments where I want to be totally covered up, but I also live in Canada lol! But I also feel a sense of security that clothing can offer. Thank you for watching❤
Thanks for doing this video. However, I was never a fan of their aesthetics and not a fan of their sunken in cheekbones (aka drug-user like image). Everything looked oversized and poor tailoring. However, thanks for sharing though! You always do such a great job discussing fashion.
