I believe the original owner of this car was Hershell McGriff and he ran in NASCAR west coast in the early seventies. This car is over 40 years old and in previous videos like Le Mans classic it was passing cars much newer and made specifically for road racing, not bad.

This car along with the number 90 Truxmore Torino were raced at LeMans in 1976, in a class called Nascar Grand International. This car was driven by Hershel McGriff, a West Coast USA Nascar driver. The number and sponsor were same as his US cars. He had won the Mexican Road Race in the fifties and was still racing around 2005. Dick Hutcherson, one of the drivers of the 3rd place Ford GT40 MkII in 1966 was a driver in the Truxmore car in 1976. The cars did not do well, as I recall. The engines were built for 135 octane race fuel, they did not know that lower octane was used at LeMans then. They suffered engine problems.

In all honesty, the best platform Chrysler had to circuit/track race was the A-body- not the B- or E-bodies. Look up Scott Harvey and Team Starfish. Very successful rally efforts with Valiants and A-body based Barracudas. But when the Corporation wants to pimp a "Sportier" image vehicle, the facts get pushed aside...

Bottom line...WIN! MOPAR!!!!

One thing American cars do right: NOISE. Looks pretty nice too :) You can kinda tell just by watching it though it handles like a barge.

European and Japanese auto makers can't compete in Nascar (They have tried)...too much speed for too long a period of time. MOPAR!

It's an ex NASCAR vehicle, so it's not built to take sharp turns :) In addition it probably has bias ply slicks, so they don't give that much lateral traction as radials. Historic Trans Am will show You cars, that handle and accelerate quite great :)

It handles like a barge because it's a barge. Highway car designed for comfort. US still makes body over chassis cars because it's modular. Allows parts be altered easier for hard use and easy replacement. Not only are the main components modular but the sub-components or sub components of those components as well.

So this is one of NASCAR join Le Mans ?
