“I saw “it’s” mother. Its mother was a Jack …” The priest was saying jackal, aka a Dog. That’s why they found a dogs skeleton in the grave of its mother.

Robert Thorne was killed by the police in that church. They buried him and Catherine side by side. And the president of the US took Damien into his custody before giving him to his uncle`s family. THAT`S NOT A BIG SPOILER, DON`T CRUCIFY ME))))) And yes, it`s a great trilogy. You`d watch the second and the third movie. The canonical ones.

@jondishmonmusicandstuff2753 I think reactors often miss a great deal due to their notion that they have to talk almost nonstop. It also probably didn't help that he expected the movie to be similar to The Exorcist, so he was looking for clues of demonic possession rather than the birth of the antichrist

This movie earned Jerry Goldsmith his only Academy Award for Best Score, and it was well deserved. The Black Mass-style music was just as resposible for the movie's success as the acting and the writing.

I honestly feel this and the sequel are the most harrowing and brilliant cinematic experiences of modern time. I've never like horror, I find most attempts pathetic. But this film is amazing! Misery is too, but evem though brilliant it's not close to this.

This is how Damien was cast: "In a group audition of 500 male children, Richard Donner asked each of the prospective little Damiens to attack him in the way they would later be required to attack Lee Remick’s mother character, Katharine, in a church in the film. It was Stephens who left the biggest impression on the director, though, going a step further by clawing at his face and kicking him in the crown jewels. After the pain subsided in Donner, he chose to cast Stephens in the role of Damien, although he decided to alter his hair from curly and blonde to straight and black in order to give him a scarier appearance."

I just gave you your 333rd vote up on your video. We're halfway there! LOL! As you can see, approaching fifty years later, 'The Omen' hasn't lost any of its shock value. As you could hear, no other soundtrack in cinema history is as imposing as Jerry Goldsmith's masterpiece. Out of respect for the David Warner character, you should mention that 'Final Destination' borrowed the concept of the mysterious rays in the pictures from 'The Omen', and not vice versa.

@Mike-rk8px

The director Richard Donner went to a screening of the movie with a test audience before it was released in movie theaters. He saw that when the decapitation scene happened, because the audience could tell it was going to happen, that most of them looked away or covered their eyes to avoid seeing the head go flying. So he went back and the head flying scene slowed way down, so when the next test audience saw that scene they looked away for what they thought was long enough, only to look back at the screen and see the head still flying. The slowing down of that scene became famous, and it worked really well at scaring the hell out of people. The first time I saw “The Omen” I was 10, and that flying head grossed me out so bad that I couldn’t eat for days.

Genius. The sequel is also brilliant. The reviews for the new prequel have been fantastic so I can’t wait to see it. Great reaction as always. Exorcism won't do a thing because Damien isn't posessed by the Devil, he is the Devil himself; to be more precisely, he is the Son of the Devil. The same way Jesus is the Son of the God. And that nanny is an ordinary woman who serves the Devil so of course her interest is to protect Damien.

Since you were wondering. For the scene where Kathy's car is attacked by baboons, production initially tried to have the baboons attack by placing food around the car (after having the zoo staff members deliberately not feed the baboons the night before filming), whilst also placing a baby baboon in the back seat of the car with a zoo official. That didn't work so they placed the leader of the Baboons in the back and that did the trick and they went berserk.

My main problem with it was Liev Schreiber was miscast and Seamus Davey Fitzpatrick played up the Devil Child aspect of Damien way too much whilst Harvey Stephens in the original had more of an unsettling mix of creepiness and cherubic innocence(Which fits if you know what Lucifer was before the fall in The Bible), adding to the whole "Devil as an angel of light" vibe.

THE FINAL CONFLICT is the concluding chapter of the original trilogy with Damien played by Sam Neill (from JURASSIC PARK). It's up to you if want to watch Omen IV: The Awakening which is only a made for TV film and the 2006 remake of the original. THE FIRST OMEN which is a prequel to the 1976 film is out in theaters now. THE OMEN isnt really like THE EXORCIST for one thing it doesnt deal with posession, Damien was born to be evil one day, also it's a conspiracy thriller, very similar to a political thriller. THE OMEN takes place in 3 counties - U.K, ITALY, ISRAEL, this is an international story, rather than being stuck claustrphobically in a child's bed room. the point being the coming of the Devil, & being marked for death. the film has become a little dated as life in the 70s was MUCH MORE trusting than in today's paranoid World, you could get away with much more.

The priest in the beginning at the birth, the replacement Nanny, & the Priest trying to warn Thorn, are ALL ORPHANS the same as Damien, with that same birth mark. It was the priest in Thorn's office, that killed his original son with a rock, on the orders of Satanists at a ritual, that's why he wanted to be forgiven so desparatly. Damien himself doesnt know that he is evil yet, (but made much more clear in the sequel) this is a very cleverly written & Directed film, it's atmosphere being it's biggest sucess, an omen is basically a warning & threat is the point rather than horror itself

Gotta love the oops we dropped your kid but hey it's okay cause we have another one where we dropped the mother - waste not want not thing. The second one is also good. Wasn't that wrapped in the third one. Four I barely remember. They did a remake in 2006 of this and released it on 06/06/2006 - it was totally crap. I'm not really into horror movies but this was so much better than The Exorcist. BTW I love your reactions.

For the baboon scene at first they captured a baby with no reaction from all the adults. They were told that they need to tranquilize the leader and put him in the car and you saw the results. In fact the baboon was waking up during filming! Also, when this movie was filmed, Rottweilers were not common so it made them seem more sinister. If you ever get the urge to watch The Omen 666...it is the same movie with different actors but much more poorly acted. Not the same vibe at all! I had bought a DVD and loaned it to a friend then told him I don't want it back (it sucked😢).

Omen IV: The Awakening which was a TV movie for the newly created (at the time) FOX Network Then the 2006 remake which is almost a word for word, scene by scene pointless remake without the iconic music. I believe #3 was Sam Neill's debut film - he's creepy af. Some would say this storyline follows the story of the apocalypse with the whole number of the beast thing; I sometimes feel that 45 has a birthmark under that ghastly hair. 😂😂😂

After hearing you praise Jerry Goldsmith's work, I wanted to point out my favorite cue of his at 21:31. The sound mix minimizes it but heard on its own on LP or CD and this cue builds brilliantly and works so well with the scene. I would also recommend you watch 1979's The Great Train Robbery for a brilliantly entertaining heist movie with, in my opinion, is Jerry Goldsmith's best score. I'm watching this movie again and I can't help but boost the volume to let that music sing.

PS,I absolutely LOVED your reaction to this movie. Like The Exorcist, it's a mature, deliberately-paced horror movie classic. it's not the jump scare, like many of today's movies but the invested time to make you care about fully fleshed out characters put in a precarious situation. I was too scared to see this in the theatres when it was released and the trailer featuring the nanny's hanging (incredibly shown in the trailer before I watched Young Frankenstein with my aunt in New York) scarred me until I watched this on television and realized what a great movie it was.

This is not perfect by any means but this is how I think: In '68 we get "Rosemary's baby" (fabulous and should watch; although Roman Polanski) to kick things off. The waters get tested in '72 with "The Last House on the Left". But "Rosemary's Baby" acts as the gateway that brought us the '73 "The Exorcist". For '74, we get the pivotal "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre". And films like "Jaws" in '75 to help further develop. Finally in '76, the 'supernatural' path forks with "Carrie" or demon-related with "The Omen. Finally ending '79 with "Alien" and "The Amityville Horror". This is probably heavily biased but whenever I think of horror, the line-up of '68-'79, sets up the proliferative 80s perfectly. Please comment on others that make up this timeline! 😄

I would suggest "Curse of the Demon" (1957) as an early, demonic-themed precursor to the string of films you mentioned. It has some cheesy moments, including a too-early reveal of the titular monster that should have been left out, but the movie nevertheless is provides includes some genuine scares, suspense, originality, and an iconic demon design.

I'm talking the BIG films that everyone on the street knew about. These films inform every other horror film/trope, and mostly spawned franchises. If you start with these, everything else will fall into place. 1961 Psycho 1968 Rosemary's Baby 1968 Night of the Living Dead 1972 Deliverance 1973 The Exorcist 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1975 Jaws 1976 The Omen 1978 Halloween 1979 Alien 1980 Friday the 13th 1981 The Evil Dead 1982 Poltergiest 1984 A Nightmare on Elm Street 1996 Scream 1999 The Blair Witch Project 2004 Saw 2007 Paranormal Activity Plus one of my personal favourites: The Haunting 1963 (was adapted into the netflix series House on Haunted Hill)

Check out the two sequels Damien: Omen 2 and the Final Conflict. There is a third 'sequel' called Omen 4: the Awakening, but you should avoid that one like the plague. 4 was a made for tv movie that was supposed to be a reboot/ remake originally then turned it into a sequel at the last minute. The 2006 remake is ok, I guess. I even heard there was a tv series that lasted a season called Damien, but I have no opinion on it since I haven't seen it.

Mark gatiss was interviewing David Warner for a bbc documentary about horror movies. David Warner played Keith Jennings- the photographer A part of their exchange. Mark Gatiss: Do you know what actually happened to your severed head? David Warner: (thinking for a second, smirks) I lost it in the divorce. Both men break into laughter.

'IF" you believe that Horror films can be cursed... Specially if they're religious OR have to do w/ real life hauntings. This film much like (The Exorcist) seemed to fall victim to a curse. *Star Gregory Peck and screenwriter David Seltzer took separate planes to the UK...yet BOTH planes were struck by lightning. * While producer Harvey Bernhard was in Rome, lightning just missed him. * Rottweilers hired for the film attacked their trainers. * A hotel at which director Richard Donner was staying got bombed by the IRA; he was also struck by a car. * After Peck canceled another flight, to Israel, the plane he would have chartered crashed...killing all on board. * On day one of the shoot, several principal members of the crew survived a head-on car crash. *The curse appeared to persist well into post-production... when special effects artist John Richardson was injured and his girlfriend beheaded in an accident on the set of A Bridge Too Far (1977). info.... some I knew but also thnx to IMDB.

Followed by Damien: Omen 2, The Final Conflict and the tv movie Omen IV: The Awakening. A remake of The Omen and a one season tv series called Damien plus a prequel in 2024 The First Omen. Sadly Oscar winner Gregory Peck son died around the time of the film and he did it through the grief. It is a "cursed film" much like The Exorcist had accidents and other terrible things on set. Fun fact: The Beckhams own the Thorn house in England!
