I think the capture card on/off button was meant for cameras if you want to route DSLRs through the interface. Some streamers often turn their cameras off when they have to do something or whatever or to not leak something that's on their screen. Yes you can do this with OBS but it's nice to have a hotkey
The button that cuts if the video signals can be super helpful if you use the device for camera input. Think web meetings, think cutting of video for good to ensure privacy when not using the cam.

Yeah I wish it had those in the Unify software - or even if it's just the settings written on the Rode website somewhere - I think this would help a lot of people.

Start with Windows was one of the first features i searched for when I got mine. You can make Unify launch on PC startup. I think what I did was press Windows+R then type shell:startup. Then I right clicked and created a new shortcut which I navigated to wherever Unify is installed.
Honestly, what makes this nice is that it's pretty good all in one solution for most. Especially if you already own dac and don't want to use audio interface dac combo like red for mic. I have really nice dac and using those would be downgrade. Also, disable for video capture makes total sense for streams. Those pages are just not useful at all. If you actually need to go trough trouble of both remembering what button and page is what, you might as well do it inside software/OS or some keyboard shortcut instead. Faster and less hassle. Those arrow keys should just be same as rest.
Hooked mine up today, replaced my rodecaster pro 2. Unify like you said is a bit buggy but when it’s working it’s a great solution for streaming. Shure sm7b set up could be made easier if you could actually see what gain your at!
So Dan I have a couple of questions: 1- Unless you are capturing from a console, how simracers on triples would benefit from the capture card built in this device? Whoever on triples is using DP's on the screens and not HDMI, how can someone remain in surround, which I know you are not using, and capture the middle screen? This question is for whoever on 2 PC setup as well. 2- the sound input diming vs the game sound with OBS when you talk how can you do that?
You just use hdmi on your center monitor or you don’t use surround - I personally just don’t use surround and clone the center monitor. The sound thing you are looking for is side chain compression!
Cutting off the video is for when your are streaming via a video camera and your girlfriend walks into the picture half-naked, not knowing you are streaming. Of course this will never be problem if you're a gamer, because gamers have no girlfriend.
Re. some cables not working, the user guide says you need to use the included USB cable or a cable that supports "super-speed" data transfer, whatever that is, in order to be able to carry video signal. Nice review, thanks, best out there, I think. Do more?
Nice review. I don't know why but audio is the bug of the computer world. It causes so many problems. Devices and software would probably work better if the OS just had a stable platform.
If unify is not used, the 3.5mm mic jack is default every time the unit gets power. Really annoying to change it every day for no reason. On Unifi its less a problem because it can handle all mics parallel. A monitoring is also missing on the device directly. Bluetooth is missing. Hardware based virtual channels like the chat channle on the pro 2 are missing. If you use only usb 2 on a dual pc setup (not dual streaming), you need also the power cable because usb2 can’t power the device. Unify also needs some QoL changes. Nice attempt and most thing’s are fixable, but with a working audio setup, it’s probably to wait for some fixes before buying.
Thank you for excellent and extensive video. Q: Are you able to do video output to HDMI output port and not just HDMI throughput. If I connect Streamer X to my PC and to a TV, can I use it to show my desktop on the TV?
That's unfortauntely not possible ... why don't you just connect both to your PC and then select to mirror the output? Or you could get an hdmi splitter.
Hi, do you know if the video signal UVC USB output will have the audio baked in from the XLR inputs of the Streamer X or would it be camera audio or a mix of both? (without the unify running) Also I wonder if this would work with the USB input on something like the yolobox pro . Thanks
Can i use it to make a dual computer streaming set up? my pc being my gaming rig and the mac as the streaming pc. also if both of my HDMI connections will be occupied with the computers where can i connect a camera to it?
I think I'm missing something. Can I send mic input to the gaming pc as well as the streaming pc for things likes in-game voice chat or games like Phasmophobia that have voice recognition?
how do you make all your games come through ONLY the "Game" channel instead of the System? It seems to default to the "System" channela and so when I have "Game" selected as the output in OBS, my viewers are saying they can't hear the game audio. WTF?

When it says it has 2 USB C ports and the ability to connect to 2 computers, does it also cover the situation where I would plug XLR mic and Mirrorless camera in, and have BOTH USB Cs going out? One to my MacBook Pro, and one to my Windows Desktop PC? I would never need those two at the same time. MacBook is used for work (I need good quality video and audio), while Windows machine is used for gaming / streaming. You would greatly help me if you gave me the answer to this! Cheers :)
Hello, i have an issue with the Streamer X on Mac: i use Teams set on Unify Virtual Chat (Speaker and Mic). I cannot send sounds from the Pad (eg : Applause) into teams conversation (Voice effects works). I've tried bunch of settings without results.. Can you please help ?
Main audio choice in Teams settings is Rode Unify chat (other choice can be Rode Connect System), Speaker and Mic choice in Teams are Rode Unify Chat Virtual (other choice can be Rode Connect System, Rode Connect Virtual, Rode Unify Virtual, ...).
The thing is.. this 300-400$ device doesn't have on/off button. So enjoy unplugging cables physically everytime if you don't want buttons shining thru the night. Streamer X also gets a bit hot around knobs (constantly), so I'd wonder how much power does it actually take while you don't use it. Design-wise, how stupid is that?
My issue... maybe there is a option i'm unaware of but i can't find a "Mute all button" for sources so if i want to mute music or discord etc. from my stream and my headphones similar to how GoXLR is setup to mute a channel on the device. Hopefully i'm just crazy and someone knows how to do this - but i'm assuming this will be a feature update down the road to the software within Unify.
@@AzizimIstanbul If you want to capture the hdmi signal from something like a camera, console or 2nd computer. If you just do audio - no need for a capture card.

Has someone managed to switch off the power of the Streamer X without unplugging the device? (i.e. when the PC is turned off.) I even played around with the ErP settings in BIOS, and the Streamer X still gets power after the PC shutdown.
Can you use multiple effects and combine them? Only one a time is useless.. and yes and as always, not showing how to setup and use dual pc setup. The only really thing to show isnt shown 😒
You just plug in both usb cables - that’s literally it 😅 stream pc is usb1 and then the usb2 mixer in unify is your game pc - it is so easy that I didn’t really include it. But I could make a quick shorts video if it’s of interest? I need to check for the effects - but the only useful one is reverb anyways

Is cool and all but it doesn't have HDMI 2.1. so although you can pass through 4k 60hz. But not 4k 120 for the PS5 or Xbox. So will not be getting this item is not for me. I'll wait for mark 2. If I was anyone I wouldn't get this item.
@@LilJoe3 what I meant was. You can not plug in your 120hz 4k monitor and play your game at 120hz. Not the streaming service or does not pass through 4k 120hz. But if you want play your PS5 at 120hz you can't lol. Not worth it.
@@kingcustompcs i think you can plug in your monitor to your PS5, and then plug in another HDMI to the PS5 Out into the Streamer x Passthrough and you should be able to play at 120hz.
Use a HDMI signal duplicator. Send one signal to capture card and the other to you monitor. Honestly prefer this to using passthrough because a lot of capture cards block your passthrough signal when HDCP content(such as Netflix) is played.
Adults... playing video games all day. facepalm They should have graduation ceremonies for grade schoolers to hint that it's time to leave this behind.
