The One Ship Responsible For How Bad Destroyers Play! (World of Warships Legends) 

Tiers 5 & 6 are the real hayday's for IJN DD's. At lower tiers the guns are non-existent as Spartan displayed in this video and at higher tiers (7+) IJN is severely outgunned. "Death by a thousand cuts" used to be the skillset that made ships like Kagero and Shimakaze so much fun earlier in Legends, but in today's meta everything t8 and above has sonar/radar so that even great concealment doesn protect you. Best advice is select Perceptive in Tanaka's the skill tree, bring your DD to the edge of the cap (do not enter without cruiser support), launch full spread torps in direction of nearest enemy ship (will most likely be enemy DD), clench your buttocks and hope they yolo into your minnows. Youd be surprised at how often this strategy works to your advantage. I have more First Blood medals in my t7, t8, and Shimakaze than any other with the exception of prrhaps Dev Strike.

Also agreed! But not for the reason you state. The guns ARE abysmal, the concealment IS cracked. I think these two things, like you said, lure players into thinking they can/should only play the Japanese DD’s a certain way. BUT! I think that’s all a trap. I think players tend to rely on those strengths and weaknesses without experimenting with the ship. She’s a pretty small ship to hit. So when getting chased by another DD (let’s be real probably an American DD) it can actually chip and punish the chasing destroyer more than the other player might be expecting. I’ve found great success and even killed/forced my enemy to retreat bc of how much damage they were taking and how much I was dishing out. And I think that translates to the other JP DD’s pretty well. Sure they’re not gun boats but when put in a sticky situation YOU CAN USE YOUR GUNS. Become a tiny little cruiser that’s harder to hit. In short I guess I feel like there’s that whole other side of JP DD’s that get missed and if people invested a little more time into finding out what they CAN do then I think we’d have some better DD players.

Mutsuki was fun. Thank goodness it taught me to do IJN torpedo boats. Btw, I made a super Marlborough in UAD. It is the HMS Resolution, and it has 16 16.5-inch guns instead of Marlboroughs 16 14-inch guns.

I love it in T4 when cruisers make the mistake of going broadside to my Okhotnik. 7 130mm guns set to AP will RUIN a low tier cruiser and they find it out the hard way. I agree that Japanese DDs are probably responsible for no-gun play from DDs later. I was guilty of this for a long time as Japanese DDs were my first line of DDs I played and it wasn't until the release of Z-52 campaign that I played any other line of destroyers except premiums. And I learned that guns on a DD aren't totally useless.

You got one of those lost puppies that follow you around no matter what, they drive me nuts.

Vasteras I find to be a great DD teacher. You can torp. You can gun boat. You got enough speed to do objectives and enough concealment to spot. One of my highest SCORING ships at tier 5. Beats my Cali and my Cali averages 80k damage a game.

If I'm in a game with Spartan and we're both in DDs I would be tempted to follow him around to finish off the leftovers.🎉

I will never understand damage chasing. As someone who occasionally enjoys IJN DDs if you play correctly you often get the same damage or more than you would if you tried damage chasing and you get more rewards for it cause you win more.

Low tier is a lot of fun. New players can pull some surprising moves or just potatoe.

lol this is the tier I’ve reached dizzy heights and unlocked 3 destroyers. Indeed I felt the guns were pointless and sneaky torps were the only solution. Every video - baffling.

I got my 3rd Kraken, with the Mutsuki.

These lower teir are good to play to keep you on your toes. You should do more.

I actually got turned off japanese destroyers for a while because of this ships guns. But I used my brain, and deduced that the next tier guns would be better. Lo and behold, I was right. Now I have fun lol

For the guns I agree that Mutsuki is the responsable for people not using it... even if you can outgun even a Friesland on a Hayate (yes miracles exist xD) But for the torps I gonna point strait to Yudachi even if I love the ship
