You’re dope af and humble ❤ I’m a photographer for over 15 years now. I’ve always loved filmmaking but always felt intimidated by the craft…. I’m excited to start this journey and watching you is helping me tremendously 🌿
If the goal is to have a familiar face for people like you, from where you're from, doing this... You should be especially proud that you've reached people who look nothing like you and are from places nothing like where you are from. You've really accomplished a lot. I keep coming back because the color grading and style. I hope you never leave this platform. You and GxAce are my favorites on RU-vid for film making because it's obvious that you two are really grinding and making it happen. Never stop.
I am from Romania, and i watch some very talented people online, who suppose to inspire me when i feel down, and make me not doubt myself, you have stories in your images, somehow time stops, that's why i admire you, I'm glad you exist
Great video and concepts. Love that you can express your "why" and also have FIRE shots to back it up, often I'll see the advice followed by someone posting some mid ass pictures lol. Im just a hobbyist and have been doing my best to avoid advice, and these hard and fast rules the professionals follow as I find some of it restrictive and arbitrary, but Im legit writing down everything you're saying because it resonates with how I want to capture pictures and why I love this as a hobby. Thank you brother!
Man, I been watching you for a while now and I'm not done with this video. But there is something about this video that resonates so deeply. You give me confidence as an artist, make me feel comfortable with the vision I have. Thank you for helping me out throughout the last year or so. much love to you Vuhlandes!!
this is what i love to see, every other youtuber, when talking about making things cinematic, talk too nitty gritty about luts, camera settings and buying equipment. I feel like photography, since its an art to compose an image, defs helps making film have a vibe to it. same with your recent lighting video, i hated how people said "you cannot have noise" cuz i have a mid camera, but i can make things look cool
I feel like the Pentax is like a side character of a TV show that had a tearful departure from the show during the last season finale and is coming back because it's a fan favorite
I just found your channel a day or so ago and I love it. I will be binge watching all of your videos.….. I’m extremely encouraged to go out and develop those practical skills in both photography and filmography. ❤❤❤
Loved this, and I liked what you said about wanting to the subject in the frame to tell the story vs the camera being a character telling the story (when discussing your preference of static shots). One suggestion I would make - if you’re open to it - is to adjust your framing of you talking to the camera so the ceiling fan isn’t on the top frame edge. It’s a little distraction because it’s not fully in nor fully out. I would say frame it out so we can focus solely on you. Oh yea, and I followed you on Letterboxd!
Man, your photos keep improving more and more. Your cinematography reflects that. You should totally go back and reshoot your movies again and see how redoing it with your improved skills brings the film up too. Or you could make a new movie with a strong narrative script that you love. Your cinematography and lighting alone would make a full 20 minute to feature length film worth watching. Now pair that with some good actors and a strong script, it'd be an almost banger. I know a movie is a big ask (I'm a film student in college so I know how much of a task it is) but you've made one before so you can do it again. But if you do make another one, definitely bring on a team to work with you. The more people helping you direct and DP, the better. I'm sure a lot of people would be more than willing to work with you on such a project for free.
I love your love of photography, and how much time is under your belt with film. When I used to shoot a lot, I also experienced seeing people and my world through the lens differently than from my natural eye. Great video. I love the girl you shot, too. She is so cool to be so natural in front of the camera. She's naturally engaging.
Photography is important! I love it but I see the differents between vertical and horizontal shots. Horizontal shots are looking so much better and cinematic. Thank you for your inspiration
Do you know the work of Cindy Sherman? She did this work called "Untitled Film Stills"... I was reminded of this watching your video... I truly believe that photography and filmmaking have a long and close relationship... I made a film once by shooting actual BW photos and then digitizing the photos one by one into a 10-minute video... it was about this friend who was dating this guy... that dumped her... and left her at a truck stop... in the middle of nowhere... each photo was telling a different part of that story... what put the photos in "motion" was ultimately the voice-over and sound design... anyway, thank you for what you do... in particular, showing the world the heart and soul of your city...
just having the consideration that you may be too good or that you need to say to others, claim 'humbly', that you do think you are not TOO good.... yea... that's not really humble... that's being cocky with humble-sauce. if you're cocky, because you are being good, you may as well just avoid the humble schpiel and prove why you deserve to be cocky. Which already is the case, more or less, the videography is proper. (glad my youtube account is super anonymous, gives me chance to sound like I know it all regardless if I have any right to do so :p )
that's the mindset to have PERIOD. Not just in filmmaking but in life. There is so much in this life we can learn from every single day. The moment we stop learning is the moment we start dying. Great mindset and i am also going to be taking this mindset and applying it to my life.
Hey man, first time catching your channel. I agree with you 100%, even though I am not a photographer. However, both stills and motion photography rely heavily on composition, framing, and lighting. When I am on set there is also a stills photographer, and the stills they get look amazing! I view it as another art, even though the medium is the same. I can make moving things look nice, but I don't believe I can "see" the still photo that a still photographer sees to know that is when to activate the shutter. Then again, I've never really tried to go all out in still photography either. For me, capturing movement is just a more natural thing. It's what comes to me. But I agree, anyone who does photography already has a number of the critical tools to do video. If I were to name only one thing that I believe is most important, I would say lighting. So much so that even though I am a Director and DP, and camera op, I have been doing just lighting the past 2 years, as people have come to me to do this task for them. Besides what I already knew (why they wanted me to do their lighting) I also learn even more by doing lighting on other people's projects. Yes, we will always be learning until we die. There is just so much to making images look even better, and in so many different scenarios. Nice video here. I love your stills. Subscribing.
One thing to improve would be audio levels. For those like me that are on good speakers it can be frustrating when the dynamics are too far apart for a talking video. i.e. He talks and the sound is kinda low so I increase volume. Music kicks in, I rush to lower the volume because it's way too loud. repeat. And for anyone else here. Doesn't matter if you edit in Premier, Davinci or whatever. When you drop in a mp3 or wav the loudness is always too much by default. You have to make sure to find a good balance for music and dialogue. You can search in youtube how to mix good audio for pretty much all editing software.
You touched on so many fantastic points here...I just want to say a few things that I think you really nailed. 1) As someone who has been working in the motion picture industry for the better part of 20 years as a dolly grip and telescopic crane technician, I can definitely say that experience has made me a better photographer; it works both ways. You are an incredible photographer and I can already tell from the films you have made, you have the eye and you are well on your way to being an amazing cinematographer! 2) I can't tell you how many directors I've worked with that implement camera movement fort absolutely no reason, it doesn't always make the shot more interesting and I would argue a static frame can tell a more interesting story when used accordingly. 3) I 100% feel you on having a project to focus your work on and I absolutely can't wait to see your 10 cinematic frames! Love that you are completely transparent when talking about your craft. It's so refreshing to hear other artists vulnerabilities and feelings about their work. It shows that you love what you do! Look forward to what you create down the road! 🙌🤜💥🤛💙
I think Peter McKinnon giving you a shoutout is cool but in what world… You should have a 4 million followers telling your people to check out… Pete’s a great guy though but you know…❤️
Hey bro,I love and follow your work. I( purchased your luts and wanted to check if there is a specific way to use them because I was getting different results
Greatness , Holla at me brother. Lets collaborate on a Movie. I'm a writer director independent filmmaker. I have a project you are perfect for. Holla back bro let;s make Filmmaking history.
Funny I was going to criticize the lack of movement of the camera. I find it refreshing however. Camera movement should in my opinion should be contemplated even longer than framing the shot.
Can you tech solo storytelling about yourself, I mean a little bit like a cinematic movie, in 3 acts, begining, content, end, with hooks, with surprise moments, with some b rolls. Easy, and possible to do for beginner, how to tell about your day or a dog, or abount anithing, with talking strainght to the camera or do overlay voice? Or maybe do some creative like acting? How to do that?
I think it’s subjective , what you may think looks good, someone else may not. For instance I find your shots to be dull and lacking in emoticon or story telling . But that’s just my subjective opinion.
Been working as a photographer for the past 13 years and counting, and in the past 3 years I have been doing more and more videos too! And photography definitely helped a lot, yes! Telling stories through photography and videos are somehow similars in the building! Thanks for sharing this! Also, unfortunately your discord link still does not work...
Hi, Vuhlandes I have purchased your LUT PACK from your website but I didn't receive any order confirmation code on my mail therefore I'm not able to download the Luts without the confirmation codes. Can you please resend me the confirmation code on my mail so that I can download your Luts. Thank you.
Bro, please help me download your luts 😭🙏 I have payed for it. At least reply to your customer’s queries, That’s very unethical and unprofessional of you.
Man would love it if you did another color grading video. Including the first shot in this video. Your colors and skin tones always pop and are so rich.
Vuhlandes, I absolutely love your videos. One of the things that stands out to me are the colors, the grading. I know that this is only 10% of what really matters, but I'm passionate about this feature in your videos. I also know it might be hard for you to respond to this comment among so many (I have a channel too =)), but with that hope, I want to ask for a tip. How can I achieve grading like yours? I don't want to copy, just understand and figure out how I can do it. I feel like I'm missing something. It would also be cool if you made a new video about your video grading process. Congratulations! Keep up the good work! Big hug.
Great channel. I always get practical, real world examples of how to improve my work as well. I can also see your passion through your channel and work. Keep doing your thing
